Hello and welcome back to Paranormal Underground Radio. I am your host, Cheryl Knight, and tonight we are talking with a return guest. She is Louisa Oakley Green, and we first spoke with Louisa a couple months ago about her book Loitering at the Gate to Eternity: Memoirs of a Psychic Bystander. And we are talking to her today, primarily about her second book, Sightseeing in the Undiscovered Country, Tales Retold by a Psychic Byster. And before we get started, I wanted to just remind you a little bit about Louisa and her background. Louisa did not believe in psychic phenomena when she first met her husband, Stephen, but now, more than twenty years later, her views have changed. Her two books in the Psychic Bystander series, Loitering at the Gate to Eternity, Memoirs of a Psychic Bystander, and Sightseeing in the Undiscovered Country, Tales Retold by a Psychic Bystander, both reflect her journey from skeptic to believer through hundreds of paranormal stories involving her.
her family and everyday people across the US and around the world. Louisa has worked as a newspaper reporter. humor columnist, health magazine editor, public relations manager, advertising copywriter, medical writer, and executive creative director of a digital advertising agency. And these days she actually earns her living as a freelance writer. Welcome Louisa. Thank you for joining us again. Thank you for having me again. It seems like just yesterday but it's actually been two months since we did our first podcast. Has it been that long? It ha yes, can you believe it? Yeah, that went fast. I'm actually very happy that you are back again because we had ended, I believe, the last discussion on a very interesting note and it involved your second book and s some of the contents of the book.
And that centered around some studies. But first I wanted to ask you a little bit about the book. Sightseeing in the Undiscovered Country is a second anthology of more than one hundred true paranormal stories. Now that sounds like a lot of work. How did you collect all of those stories? Uh I interviewed
people. Um I didn't know what they had for me. I don't tell people what I want. Um I just uh kind of put you know, put it out there, hey, if you've got a a story about a you know, mystic experience that you'd like to share with me then you know, just let me know and uh I'll interview you and I never know what I'm gonna end up with, but I ended up with some pretty interesting things in my second book. Um, you know, this uh chapters about uh dead relatives coming back. The Uh there's a chapter about near death experiences. People had o out of body experiences. All sorts of things. Uh y one person saw something mystic that I I really couldn't explain. Although when I went searching on the internet I found there were other people who had had the same really crazy experience.
And so I sent uh I sent that to the woman I interviewed and she said, Oh, now I don't feel crazy
Right.
Um So th there's a lot of stuff out there. It's interesting. Um you know, and because I have the science background I like to write about people's experiences and that's kind of the mystic part of these books but I also always like to include something factual. So in the first book I went into the the history of a lot of these phenomena, you know, a lot of these things have been in cultures for thousands of years, you know, almost since Britain civilizations. So they're not new types of things. So that was in my first book and in the second book I thought, wow, you know, it would be nice to find some really legitimate studies, not like the crazy stuff where they're putting their flashlight on their face and swimming 'cause they're in a house.
Um, you know, I mean that's fun, you know, but that's not really scientific. But things that are being done by universities, by governments, by the military who are ha you know, investing millions of dollars in this research which which makes me think, well
