What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

Mike Slater 0:04
Welcome to Politics by Faith. It's where we take the news of the day, we bring it to the Bible, so we walk away with peace and perspective. New headlines every day, they keep coming, never stops. But Ecclesiastes says there's nothing new under the sun. So thanks for being here to get the true story. The story of the day today, there's an Atlantic article called The Problem That America Refuses to Address. All right, I'll click it. What is this problem? You click it and it says the age of the trillionaire. Inequality remains a defining challenge. All right. So this is an article about Elon Musk being a trillionaire. This is because of his recent IPO of SpaceX, which is also Twitter and XAI, a couple of his companies that all came into one with SpaceX.
Mike Slater 0:53
And his vision with this money is to put human beings on the moon. and I guess mine asteroids for quadrillions of dollars. So because of this, people voluntarily gave their money to be a part of SpaceX, be part owners. He is now worth $1 trillion. Now, it doesn't mean that he has a trillion dollars in his bank account, but his net worth is a trillion dollars. First time that's ever been the case for a human being on Earth. Now, what the left feels at this news, well, what do you feel?

What news story about Elon Musk kicks off the episode?

Mike Slater 1:24
When you hear this news that Elon Musk, Started a company from nothing years ago. And now he went public with it because they've successfully launched rockets into space. And now he went public and a lot of people decided, hey, I want to be a part of that. And they gave their money. And now because of that, his net worth is a trillion dollars. How does that make you feel? You don't have to think about economics at this point. Just feel. Elon Musk, company, trillion dollars. If you're a progressive, then you feel bad. You're like, you don't like that. That makes you uneasy. Why? Why is it bad? Well, there's no economic reason. It just feels wrong. So you got to keep digging. So the root of, I believe, the root sin of that feeling that that's wrong.
Mike Slater 2:21
No, I think I feel, I'm like... Super cool. It's awesome, man. Good for him. Cool.

How did SpaceX IPO make Elon Musk a trillionaire and what does 'net worth' mean?

Mike Slater 2:27
That's great. Jeez. And then I started thinking about it. Rocket, you're going to Mars. Wow. That's pretty cool. That's it. That's the end of my feeling about Elon Musk. It's nothing but good. Then we can have a conversation about it. Yeah, I don't particularly care for Elon Musk, and he's close with the commies in China, and maybe it's not wise to have someone who has the high ground space and one guy to have control over all that. So we can have conversations about SpaceX and all that, but just at its core, wow, company, cool thing, made him a trillion dollars or a net worth of a trillion. Okay, great, cool. But the left hates it. They just feel it's wrong. So you got to keep digging and find out why. And the root of it is, the root sin is I want.
Mike Slater 3:17
I don't have that much money. I want more money. He has a lot of money. I want it. It's covetousness. And people think, well, it's wrong that he has so much. I want it. It's wrong that he has it. So I'm going to come up in my brain with a moral code that justifies my coveting of what other people have. That's the sin. And we talked about this on yesterday's episode when it comes to communists and Marxists and Karl and thou shalt not covet. That was just yesterday's episode. Here's a good example of it that I found after we did that episode. Here's the first paragraph of what The Atlantic wrote I thought was pretty interesting too. They said, "...Robert Morris migrated from England to the American colonies as a teenager and established himself in the mercantile industry."
Mike Slater 4:05
During the Revolutionary War, his trading ships attacked British vessels and seized their cargo. After the conflict, the founding father became a millionaire, likely the country's first. He later invested in frontier real estate, a good bet made too soon.

Why do progressives and the left feel uneasy about billionaires like Elon?

Mike Slater 4:21
Morris went bankrupt, spectacularly, and spent the years 1798 to 1801 incarcerated in a Philadelphia debtor's prison. Wow. That's an incredible story. So obviously they, in just one paragraph, they had to yada, yada, yada over a lot of his life.
