Chapter 1: What were the challenges faced during the Swansea game?

1.617 - 35.087

Hi Sounders, here is Mick talking about the visit to stormy Swansea. I didn't go. I hugely respect the 1100 who did. It can't have been much fun, except of course for the sheer pleasure of being among friends. I have to admit that apart from not enjoying most of what I watched, I had problems simply watching. Sky driving me nuts.

Sky's transmission was pathetic, lamentable, constantly breaking down. I pay Sounders a vast amount of money each month for Sky and Sky Plus is rubbish. And for all that money Sky make complaining about their service is such a convoluted sequence of events, slow and frustrating. Why would you bother? Why would you bother when you know it's going to do no good?

So Sounders, if I was going to give you a minute by minute critique of the game, I couldn't. But anyway, that's something I don't do. I just don't do that sort of report. So I suppose that's okay. I prefer to put games in context in terms of our season and the running and wellbeing of our club. And Sanders, as you so well know, none of that's going well.

Because from what Sky Plus allowed me to see, Pompey were a powderpuff, tepid shadow of the team we hope to see at Swansea. I so easily get knocked down. Chumbawamba, last century, you will remember tub thumping. I so easily get knocked down. I can rise again. And John Monsignor's six changes after Bristol City got me up, got me interested. And 11 minutes at the Valley made me hopeful.

And to be fair, the first half at the Vetch, which is now the Swansea.com stadium. Oh dear. The first half at the old Vetch, well, the Swansea.com stadium. The first half, I retained some hope that we'd get something from a very ordinary game. Devlin and Swanson both got skinned in the first few minutes, I noticed, by the respective wingers.

185.407 - 220.067

But they turned in aggressive performances of some merit in the end. And Matthews and Bullock were... imperfect but they did okay or perhaps a little bit better than that to be fair when you consider the number of first team games they've played and and that they are a new pairing so the ever reliable schmidt and the back four did okay pack and swift lacked

Chapter 2: How did Sky's service impact the viewing experience?

power and mobility to be able to exert pressure and momentum consistently into our side. Min Hayuk had one of his just-out-of-the-academy-brushed-off-the-ball sort of games. Chaplin looked as if he would if Ipswich were happy to have sent him away on loan, if you see what I mean. Lange is in some sort of nine role now and it's not him back to his best after a long layoff.

And perhaps he won't get back to his best with so little help around him. And then there's Murphy, our Josh Murphy. He's been so exhorted. to take the brakes off, lead by example, unleash his clean striking off the ball. Off the ball, I don't mean off the ball, off the ball. The responsibility for Josh Murphy seems to weigh on his shoulders and certainly in his head. We went 1-0 down,

to a player arriving at the edge of the penalty area unmarked and never looked like saving a point. Thanks to Sky Plus's blank screen, I didn't see the substitutions in play, but I know they didn't transform the game. So we lost in Wales. against a side no better than ours, but now several points higher up the table. And sound as I haven't recovered from the defeat, can you tell?

As I speak to you. Yeah. I'm at the wishing stage. I wish Michael Eisner hadn't come to England and said, don't worry, I'm not going to try and imitate his Americans, Don't worry, Pompey won't go down. If he did say that in England or did he say that online? I'm now, I can't, I'm just wondering now.

369.383 - 403.079

Actually, I'm not sure, but I wish he hadn't said it because with the greatest respect to our owner, it was a daft thing to say and he should have known better. And that's Mr. Eisner from someone who supports you. And wishes, I'm on wishes. I wish Regan Poole and I wish Conor Chovnesy and I wish Conor Ogilvie could get fit and back in the side.

403.139 - 440.116

And I wish John Massigno could stop wearing his heart on his sleeve and looking like a tortured soul during games at the moment and so angry and disappointed with all around him afterwards. And that makes me think of John's inexperience. He's a new young manager. He's never had a management experience like this. It'll make him better in the long run. That's no consolation for now, though.

440.156 - 476.415

And the same goes for Rich Hughes. These are young guys who haven't been through this before. Will they survive at Pompey? I hope so. They've still got the vast majority of Pompey fans behind them. And I call as witness that fantastic reaction from our supporters at the Valley a few days ago when John Massigno in his white shoes marched over to their section after the game had been called off.

477.307 - 507.854

to thank them for coming and he got an ovation and a song in his honour in return. Back to wishes for a moment. I wish for Colby Bishop to score a goal off his backside and realise he can still score goals and even more I've got a far-fetched wish here.

507.954 - 547.913

I wish we could see a debut from a young winger from Crystal Palace which has style, strength, speed and resilience and shows from the start an ability to affect games. So, no pressure, young Franco Ume. Enough of wishes. Thanks. Sounders, it's cheered me up talking to you. And now I'm looking forward to Blackburn Rovers. And with no Sky Sports Plus in my way.
