How did Becca decide to start a private practice with just one referral?
Starting a private practice isn't what it used to be. Today's clinicians are starting private practices much quicker, easier, and cheaper than before. And they aren't guessing their way through it or getting stuck in analysis paralysis, they're following a tried and true roadmap in order to save time, money, and frustration. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel or struggle to figure out how to start a private practice on your own. We've helped thousands of SLPs and OTs through this process and now we want to help you too. For a limited time, I'm offering a free copy of our private practice roadmap, specifically for SLPs and OTs who are curious about private practice and want to see what the journey looks like.

Before we get to today's guest, I want to talk about how finalized your private practice needs to be before you start, because I think most clinicians wildly overestimate it. Here's what I mean. Saying things like, I'll start once I know what my niche is, or I'll start once my kids are older, or I'll start once I've done the certification program. And I understand where that comes from, because we've been trained in a field where being sure is basically the whole job. Right? You don't try something with a kid that you're not sure about.
You follow evidence-based practice, you get supervised, you demonstrate competency, and you make sure that you're You're right before you act. Certainty is a clinical virtue. But business doesn't run on certainty. Business runs on information. And the only way to get information is to do the thing and see what comes back. And this is for people who already have a private practice too, because you would think that this goes away once you're open, but it doesn't. It just changes shape. Now it's I'll raise my rates once I feel more confident, or I'll hire. Hire someone once I have enough clients to keep them busy, or I'll add a group once I'm sure it'll fill. And so you sit there, sometimes for years, waiting for a feeling that is never coming, while the answer was just one small experiment away.
And so here's the reframe I want you to take from today. Stop asking, will this work? And start asking, what's the smallest version of this I could try? And what would it tell me? Clients after school instead of a full caseload. One day a week in a sublet office before signing a 12-month lease. Obtaining one school contract before deciding that you want a whole contracting business. I love that you have big goals, but big goals start with small steps. That is what we help you with in private practice school. And today's guest isn't alum. We give you everything that you need to be successful at every Stage of the private practice journey, whether you're just starting and getting legally set up, whether you're securing your first school contract, or making your first or next hire.
We make private practice as simple as possible because we know that you're a clinician first and a business owner second. So today you're gonna hear exactly how small steps turn into wonderful progress and how it can work for you too. I'm Jenna Castro-Kasbon, speech language pathologist, business coach, and creator of the Start Your Private Practice System.
