Gabby Hewitt is a speech language pathologist with a private practice specializing in orofacial myology in a small town in North Dakota. Gabby opened up her private practice called Up North Therapies because she knew that there was a lack of speech therapy services in her hometown and desired to fill that gap. I got to know Gabby during her time in both the Start and Grow Your Private Practice programs, and it has been so amazing to watch the impact that she has had by bringing a much needed service to her rural area. So what I would love to do to start us off is I've gotten to know you a bit through the programs and everything, but our audience doesn't know you yet. So can you go ahead and introduce yourself and please share your name, your location, and the name of your private practice? Yeah. So my name is Gabby Hewitt. I'm located in Carrington, North Dakota. So for anyone on the map, center of North Dakota.
Easiest way to say in. And then I own Up North Therapies. And I was so actually excited when you joined our programs because we get people all the time, like in Texas and California and Florida and whatever else. I'm always so happy with states that have like lesser populations of people and greater area for people to try to travel to therapies when people sign up. Because then I know that someone is really bringing a much needed service to their local area. So that's something that I would love to touch on. But before we get to that, can you please share a little bit about like kind of how you got into this profession? And then at what point did you start thinking about prior practice? So my entrance into speech pathology is kind of a unique one.
So I actually love sharing it. So my mom, when I was in eighth grade, Sign me up for competitive speech. And I had a meltdown. Corrupted. I begged her to not put me in it. And she already paid the entrance fee, which was like $25 and 2011 dollars.
