Chapter 1: What topics are covered in the '5 On It' segment?
Time for five on it. Layla Rahimi and Marshall Harris with Mark Grote. Bringing you five topics on their mind today. On Chicago Sports Radio 670 The Score. I got five on it. Number one.
This is Five On It on 670 The Score. Layla Rahimi, Marshall Harris in the house. And here on the Rahimi Harrison Grody Show, we have entered full Bears offseason mode. There will be grades given out in depth. There will be awards given out by this show to that team. But what we're asking for our first question is this. What is your first blush letter grade for the Bears 2025 season?
Are we giving out prizes?
There may be prizes. Should we give out prizes? We have to get doors first and put the prizes behind the doors. We'll figure that out.
Yeah. I don't know. Or maybe I could just scrounge around my apartment to give Grody another crown. Like, happy North year. I don't think Grody deserves the crown again. He didn't really appreciate it. Bears took the North, guys. So for that alone, A. Yep, that's my grading system. It can be that simple. Not an A+. Not a mid-A+. You're at a 90 because you made the playoffs.
You took the North, which is something you set out to do millions of years ago. Wait a minute now. A minus is what a 90 is, correct? Still an A. Okay. But it's A minus is what you're saying. It is indeed. Okay. I want to be thorough and clear with this. That's all. It's still a four point. Okay. On a four point scale. You're right. So A. A plus is like you made the title game of the Super Bowl.
We got to leave room for better. Superb owl. Gay, good, better, best. Yes. They're better. They're good and they're better. They're not quite best. And like, yeah, I come from a Persian dad who's never happy with anything. 97, anything under is an F, essentially. But that's not how I grade. All right. A. I agree. A. 95. Oh, 95. 95. Well, here's why. Here's why. They won the North.
They took the North, as you said. They acquired the North. They won a playoff game. They handled the North. Well, no, they took the North. They took it. They possessed the North. They took the North. Until somebody takes it from them, they own the North. They took the North. 95, and here's why it's a 95. You got to leave room, right? If they had won that game, probably a 96 or 97.
If they win the next game, it's a 98. And if they win the Super Bowl... Oh, it's 100 because that's the goal. The goal. That's a perfect score. 100. Is there a team that was, say, Super Bowl winner but not 100? No. Was it like the 2012 Ravens? Because if we're being honest, it's not pass-fail, but winning the Super Bowl is the goal. If you achieve the goal, it's 100. 708 makes a good point here.

Chapter 2: What is James 'Big Cat' Williams' perspective on the Bears' recent season?
And I have a system update in my screen. That's always fun. Okay, yeah, so Kevin Byard spoke to reporters at Hallis Hall yesterday and discussed the idea of sustainability.
I think with the core of the guys that we have here, obviously with Ben leading this roster, but also you have a franchise quarterback. That's one of the hardest things to get right, you know what I mean? To have a franchise quarterback, obviously continue to build around him. But like I said, who knows what it's going to look like on that side of the ball, defensive side of the ball.
But like I said, I think if you have those first two pieces with the head coach and the quarterback on the same page and Caleb's going to do nothing but get better. I mean, I think the lessons that he's learned, he's going to learn from this year. He's going to take that into the offseason. It's going to drive him to be the best he can possibly be.
I mean, he's already a top quarterback in this league, in my opinion. And I think that's going to attract people to want to come here as well because of just how good he is as a quarterback. So that's why I feel like it's sustainable.
It's Bear Safety Kevin Byard. Do you agree with Byard's comments about the sustainability of the Bears' success this season?
Kevin Byard is 100% correct. He's talking about a team he doesn't even know if he's going to be on next season. But he's right. They've got the head coach. They've got the quarterback. I expect this to be the partnership for the next decade if things go the way they should go for the Bears. They also have offensive linemen who are in place for next season.
Four out of the five, you know what it is because they just got three of those guys and a fourth is still on his rookie contract in Darnell Wright, who, by the way, was all pro. First time... Ryan Poles has drafted an all-pro guy. That was a big deal, actually. It's a huge deal. I thought about that. Credit to Ryan Poles. You've got your all-pro player.
And based on the way they finished the season with Dennis Allen not being a slouch, he is a plus defensive coordinator. And if Ryan Poles can have the type of offseason he had last year for the defense the way he had it for the offense... They may not have as good a record next year as they have this year because they have a first-place schedule and we know injuries. It's the NFL.
That's just the way the league is built and designed. But I expect the team to be better. Period. In the famous words of Ted Phillips, since we're in this Matt Nagy coaching cycle world again, TP. It's a little different than BC and AD, for example. His famous words were this. Did we win enough games? No. Did we get the quarterback right? No. Everything else is there.

Chapter 3: How does the Bears' coaching carousel impact the team's future?
Have we gotten the quarterback situation completely right? No. Have we won enough games? No.
Chapter 4: What are the grades given for the Bears' 2025 season performance?
Everything else is there. So whenever you make a decision, in my opinion, there's lots of ripple effects throughout other parts of the building, too, and other people's careers. And we have a solid football foundation. We have a solid football culture. We truly believe that.
You did not have a solid football culture. You did not have a solid football foundation. I still don't know where you're building the foundation of your next stadium. But you did get the quarterback right, and you won enough games. And you got the head coach right, too. So Ted's prophecy kind of came to some sort of conclusion. This is not a confident statement.
He was just looking way ahead to the future. We get you. We see you, Ted. But, like, I thought about it. You know, it stayed with me. I listened to him. And I don't know how to be an accountant, and I think that that's an admirable skill set. You know, there's an accountant shortage right now. So all of those things still stand. But, you know, the rest of it was a little up for discussion.
500 on 670 the score with Layla Rahimi and Marshall Harris well here's another thing you know Bears fans we don't have to deal with this team's come a long way coaching firings and hirings we got the guy but let's look around the league the Bills fired coach Sean McDermott on Monday do you think recently hired coaches like John Harbaugh and Kevin Stefanski regret not waiting just a little longer before signing their deals with their new teams
This is a question that I actually had. That was like the first thing I thought when Sean McDermott got fired. I was like, oh, John Harbaugh, are you regretting waiting? Are you regretting not going to another team? Maybe one that had a playoff contender?
Are you thinking maybe I should have waited a little bit before I took a job with the Giants who, if you're looking at the Ted Phillips assessment, they have not won enough games. They have not gotten the quarterback exactly right. Everything else is not there. You lost your running back. I don't know. I would be reconsidering my decision if I were John Harbaugh.
Now, there's a lot of money that helps with your decision-making process, but I can't help but think, similar to Ben Johnson wanting to come here because he was optimistic about the team's quarterback, that John Harbaugh might want to come to, I was going to say death row, but that's not the case, that he might want to go to the Bills and coach Josh Allen and the like.
I think John Harbaugh might be having regrets because what? Josh Allen is out here without a head coach? You have a team that's made the playoffs eight of the last nine seasons that needs a head coach? A little bit more ready-made than the situation in New York? And they're getting a new stadium. Brand new stadium. Listen. I hear it's nice there in the summer.
It's beautiful in the summer, actually. It is? This time of year? Not so much. Not so much. Yeah, I mean, when people are like, oh, you want to do sports journalism? Do you want to go to Syracuse? And I was like, ah! I actually had a job interviewing Buffalo way back in the day. And I was like, I don't think I can do this. I don't think I can do this. Ended up in Cincinnati instead. The Natty?

Chapter 5: What does Kevin Byard say about the sustainability of the Bears' success?
Like it's such a contrast from me being like, hey, Carter, I heard you guys went over the CBT. Why didn't you guys just ball out after that? He was like, it's kind of like buying a house. You can't just like buy all the house you want. Could this mean more house? Yes. Five on it. Number five. Was Marshall done with his thought? I feel like I was adding to it. No, no, no.
I was answering your question. Yes. But was that the most intriguing thing? Because for me it was. Because what are they? We talk about we want them to act like big boys, right? Big market team. Chicago, the third largest market in the country. Therefore, your peers are those around you, a.k.a. the New York teams, the L.A. teams. So act like it.
And it sounds like they're finally acting like they're not even done yet. Zach Gallin could be a cub. If Zach Gallin is a cub, then how much money are you okay with Shota Imanaga earning? Who's that? Would you be like, yeah, we're paying him $30 million, but you know, other people... Showed him a nog. I forgot about him for a minute.
Well, because we were all stressed out about his contract and the raise they gave him. You know why? But now we don't care. Yeah, because the luxury tax is less of a consideration. Everybody make money. It's okay. What an idea.
Tonight, the Bulls host the Clippers at the United Center. Pre-game coverage begins at 645. Tip off at 7 on the score. And the Fitzgerald Equipment Bulls Radio Network, powered by Heli Forklifts. Here's question number five. What's your worst winter weather experience?
Does just falling down count?
Sure. That's pretty. It could be traumatic. Could be something that gets you some injuries. Yeah, that counts.
So I'm low to the ground, as I've discussed. And I got a low center of gravity and whatnot. Decent base. Sturdy. Did you say sturdy? Yeah. And I can ice skate pretty easily despite my background. Not known for its ice time, whatnot, in North Texas. I can actually ice skate okay and ski okay. So I do pretty decent in this whole climate. And I don't slip and fall typically.
But man, sometimes the unexpected snowfall hits and there's like one of those metal street covers. Not necessarily a manhole cover, but you know, the panel ones. The flat, shiny panel. And you can't see that it's a flat, shiny panel despite being close to the ground because it's covered in snow. And then I plant my heel. Whee! Fall down, go boom. Right on the elbows.
