What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Rahimi Harrison-Grody.
AJ, how are you?
Good. I can't believe how fancy y'all are now. I mean, it used to just be a radio call-in show. Now I got to put clothes on to do this thing. I can't peak too early. I got to kind of try to control my peaking. So, you know, it's a little early to already put a shirt and a hat on. Middays 10 to 2 on 104.3 The Score.
The pitch. Young grounds one on the right side. Sprotling stop by Horner. Outfield grass throw to first. Cabrera covering in time. Out number three. But as Cabrera hurt, he's having difficulty getting up. He's hopping around. And now he's back down on the ground holding the back of his left leg.
Yeah, he's stretched getting this throw. Almost like you're going to do the splits, and that's not a good sign at all for the Cubs.
No, no, it was not. That is Zach Zademan and Ron Coomer, courtesy of the Northwestern Medicine Cubs Radio Network. This is Rahimi Harrison-Grody on 104.3 The Score. And why did I feel like last night was a bit of... win the battle lose the war for the Cubs when it came to at least they got the win over the Mets 9-6 they did tee up on Kodai Senga as we expected but unfortunately Edward Cabrera who is absolutely needed goes off of the field, and they brought out the cart. That was one of the most sad parts to watch. Does the splits, as they mentioned, to try to get an out, and unfortunately, he just stretched a bit too far.
I started that play being highly impressed.
What happened to Edward Cabrera during the game?
I was like, oh, Edward Cabrera can do the splits. All right.
And he sprinted over to first, like the hustle.
I was so excited. Anthony was so good. I was like, okay, this man's got a lead. He's got through another inning. Everything is all good. And then when he tried to get up, I was like, oh, no. He can't do the splits. And at that moment, I realized that is not a minor energy. That is a major injury. And the Cubs are basically screwed.
Marshall has declared.
Well, I mean, we could say this after each and every one of the parade of pitchers has marched out of the game or in this case carted off. And boy, that cart was moving. That was a speedy cart to the rescue in and out to get Edward Cabrera. I was actually more concerned about Edward Cabrera after two innings of this game where he had thrown 54 pitches and was laboring. And I kept on waiting for something with a hand to pop up, whether it was going to be a blister or a cramp and like coming out to have visits with him. I'm like, here we go again with this guy.
And now you're wishing it was a blister.
And now I'm wishing it was the blister or the mystery hand cramp, which has come into some discussion on what exactly that was or if it was or if Edward Cabrera just wanted to come out of the game. And then he goes and gets this nasty, nasty, legitimate, horrible injury.
Well, the hand cramp, I think, was legit. But the better question is, like, where's your potassium levels at times like that? We all have to ask ourselves that question. No, I wish I were kidding. But that is, you know, that's part of it. It's your electrolyte level. Yeah. Get that man an IV.
Get some potato chips like Jason Hamill back in the Cubs clubhouse.
There's a reason they bring that stuff up, though, especially in the summer. You know, New York is humid. They've had a lot of rain. Like, that stuff does kind of matter. You sweat a lot. So either way, what you're pointing out is Edward Cabrera has had his fair share of maladies and nuisances. And when you need him to be consistent, he hasn't been just because he hasn't been as available. And this was just bad to worse. We get the news yesterday about Justin Steele from Jed Hoyer saying he doesn't expect him to start this season. So RIP to that thought. Yesterday's price is not today's price. And it just got even more expensive for trying to figure out how the Cubs nailed this thing together in a way that makes it make sense.
Even this weekend, we're wondering what's going to happen on Sunday against the Brewers series.
Yeah, it's not pretty. And look, they have a doubleheader today. If you can find a way to sweep today, you've won the Mets series.
