are you? Doing great. How would you put into perspective what the White Sox accomplished and what a thrill it was for you to watch that yesterday?
Well, certainly if you go back to spring training and you take a look at the chances of this team, you'd realize that – There was pretty much nobody around who felt that this team had a chance to accomplish what they now have accomplished, which was get into the postseason. There is, however, three games left, and there is a chance to win the division, which would be certainly preferable, seeing as it comes with a bye. If you wind up coming in the two spots, then you would pick up a bye in the first round, which would allow your pitching staff to get a whole lot healthier and a whole lot less tired than it is right now. They're still looking for that with Colorado coming in for three starting tonight.
Steve, a lot of people question Chris Goetz when, you know, putting this roster together. And now he has his team just where they're at right now, going to the postseason and doing something that is truly, truly special after back-to-back-to-back, 100-loss seasons. It's pretty remarkable to see the job that he's done.
Well, I think he's going to be the executive of the year, and I really believe Will Venable is going to be the manager of the year. When you look at what both have accomplished, it seemed like it was something that couldn't have been done when you look at it, let's say, seven, seven and a half months ago and what they put together and where the team has gotten to at this point. You know, you've got 15 Major League debuts this year, which is unbelievable. Anytime you run that many young people, through your organization, and they're in the major leagues for the first time, you believe that this team is going to finish up the track. That didn't really happen because a lot of guys came through with pretty substantial years.
I mean, and as the year has gone along, Chase Mydroth has consistently gotten better. Miguel Vargas has consistently gotten better. And so we're seeing some of these young guys that we didn't know a great deal about come of age right before our eyes. And that's kind of, it's kind of gratifying for one thing. Looking at it from the perspective of some of the other teams in this division, you realize that it can be done by just about everybody. And I know that the American League was down this year, specifically the Central, as far as the American League was concerned. It wasn't near as good as it's been in recent years. However, There are some very good young players in the Central. We have taken a look at the Detroit team.
It looks like they're going to only get better. I think Kansas City will get a bit better. I know that our ball club is going to certainly get better for having gone through this year and being in competition for postseason play.
