Rahimi, Harris & Grote Show
Mike McDaniel stays out of NFC North, Titans hire Jeff Hafley as head coach
20 Jan 2026
Chapter 1: What are the latest developments in the NFL coaching carousel?
Rahimi Harrison-Grody, middays 10-2 on Chicago Sports Radio 670 The Score.
That's right. It's time for Around the NFL here on Rahimi Harris and Brody on 670 to Score. And normally we do this after a slate of games on a weekend. And while the playoff games were exciting, we talked a little bit about what happened in the games on Saturday. The Bears ended the slate of games on Sunday night, as we know. And why we're doing this around the NFL?
Because of the head coaching hires. Tennessee Titans now reportedly off the board. Robert Sala getting another chance to be a head coach after he was with the Jets. He is the current 49ers defensive coordinator. And that is the latest news per Ian Rappaport, Tom Pelissero, Mike Garofalo, and the crew at NFL Network.
And we also had some welcome news, Marshall, when it came to the Detroit offensive coordinator position.
Drew Petzing?
Drew Petzing, not hired, Mike McDaniel.
You were really concerned about that, huh?
I was very worried. It just seemed like the perfect marriage of philosophy and risk-taking between Dan Campbell and Mike McDaniel.
And the reporting out there was that Dan Campbell, indeed, you were right, Layla, indeed was a fan of Mike McDaniel, but the organization overall just didn't want to go that direction.

Chapter 2: Why did the Tennessee Titans hire Jeff Hafley as head coach?
It could be, obviously, an Al Harris situation. When you look at the successful...
units on the team the reason the bears were winning obviously b enemy is a great example of that although him being reunited with andy reed is probably gonna be a little different than whether one of those coaches leaves but to see how the whole division is coming together and to see the chaos out there right now again mvps active mvps with no head coaches
Yeah, that's the best way of putting it, because that's not something we're used to, even in the most aggressive and high percentage NFL coaching cycles where like a third of the league is available.
You know who we are right now? You know the meme of the people looking down at the peasants? The Hunger Games? No, no. Isn't that a Hunger Games meme? No, it's like an old school meme from colonial times or whatever. And it's like the old rich people looking down upon peasants. We're very comfortable right now watching the fray down there. We're above the fray. That's where we are.
Or we're like Kermit sipping the tea, but that's none of our business.
I mean, it is none of our business, but yeah, we still like to pay attention.
We do. And in fact... Some sad news to report in the NFC North. Isn't it, isn't it so tragic and sad and disappointing that Jeff Halfley has left the division. The lions have hired Jeff Halfley. He told everybody he was going to see them next week. Did he really just mean Miami?
Hmm. That's a great question.
Wait, what did I say earlier?

Chapter 3: What impact does Mike McDaniel's absence have on the NFC North?
I still think it might could happen, and I know that sounds crazy, but Ray, you and I are on the same page. Maybe we just need to hire Mike McDaniel.
Yeah.
Save Mike McDaniel.
I'd like to hire Mike McDaniel so he stays the hell out of the NFC North for sure.
Based on his designer outfit choices, I don't think we could afford him.
Definitely not.
Like, I don't think he could get paid at like Starbucks once a week. Poor Jeff Halfley. Poor Packers. They don't have Jeff Halfley who is for sure going to be a head coach somewhere. He's gone to a different place. Out of the division. A warmer place.
Is this mourning or celebration? I can't tell from you.
This is me trolling with the sad piano.

Chapter 4: Who is Drew Petzing and what role will he play with the Lions?
Do over. Robert Sala, welcome back to head coaching.
773 with a kind of a scary thought here. They are going to take Al Harris.
No.
I told you it was a scary thought.
How dare you? How dare you bring that up?
If the Packers hired Al Harris as defensive coordinator... No!
God, please, no! No! That's it.
This music would be very appropriate if that happened.
Isn't this just NFL music?

Chapter 5: What are the implications of Eric Bieniemy's move to Kansas City?
You have to come up with it before it happens.
You take Max Crosby and match their Michael Parsons. How about that? I like how the music changed.
Well, sounds like we have something to work on as a team. And Ray and I are going to get to hiring some position for Mike McDaniel. The obvious offer here is the Mike McDaniel show.
Why not? It'd be great.
There's no telling where that man's brain would go. Coming up next here on Rahimi Harris and Grody, it's time to talk to our film guru, Tim Jenkins. He watched the Bears game. He breaks down the tape. What does he have to say about that incredible Caleb Williams throw? We'll do it next.
