Transition: Spiegel is on edge after Bears were eliminated from playoffs
20 Jan 2026
Chapter 1: What emotions does Spiegel express after the Bears' playoff elimination?
Fifth on the way, so fourth boy. So yeah, we're living the dream. We're living the dream. The downside is there's a lot of pressure because with four boys, I got to have a first round pick or people are going to be like, that training sucks.
You know, I always want to know what little audio nugget from the day Tyler wants to end the show with. And for sure, I was thinking it was the meatball yelling about Valus Jones Jr. And the fact that he added in the junior in there was just icing on the cake. Chef's kiss. Thanks to all our meatballs. Thanks to Tim Jenkins. Thanks to James Big Cat Williams for joining us and to Kevin Fishbane.
And Tim and Kevin all season long. Thanks to our Twitch mob hanging out with us today. Thanks to everybody who hung out with us on YouTube. Thanks to Connor O'Donnell, Jacob Stutz, and Max Curtis.
Chapter 2: How do the hosts reflect on the Bears' season and their friendships?
Ray Diaz, Tyler Beterbaugh, Brandon Fryer. And hello, Matt Spiegel and Lawrence Holmes. I'm the odd woman out. I didn't wear a hoodie today. I feel like I dropped the ball here.
It's Hoodie Tuesday. Comes right after Loser Cupcake Monday.
Setback sweetener?
No, they didn't get eaten.
What?
At all? One of them did. Connor. Connor O'Donnell. But I had to urge him.

Chapter 3: What humorous anecdotes do the hosts share about their day-to-day lives?
I had to say, Connor, have a cupcake. You had to coax him. And the other two were just out there for a good long time. You didn't threaten him or anything, did you? No, no.
I wouldn't threaten Connor. Because some people's coax is another person's.
No, Speaks didn't go in and lean in on Connor like, hey, these cupcakes, they have to be eaten.
You know, I think it would be a good idea if you had a cupcake.
Yeah. There wasn't any of that.
This isn't a suspicious offer at all. Connor does have a championship metabolism.
He does. Clearly. He does.
He's amazing.
And look, it was late in the show. You know, he's probably carving up, getting himself ready to walk back to the train. Works out great.

Chapter 4: Why does Spiegel feel annoyed about the current football situation?
Because of the Bears.
It's finally set in for him.
What about the friends we made along the way?
I know. We did make a lot of friends along the way. Speaks. It was a great season. I know it was. Marshall. So why are you upset? Shut up, Marshall. Why are you upset? Let's work through this. Explain your feelings. It's something that Tanny said yesterday. Okay. I talked to him during the break. I was like, man, why am I so annoyed?
Like, I thought this was supposed to get easier and lighter as we get older. And Tanny said, no, no, no. It's the opposite because we have fewer of them left. Ooh. And I was like, well, that's grim, but probably spot on. And so, look, we talked about it yesterday. You don't know when you're going to feel like you've got a team that's good enough to win the whole thing.
But just, in general, the joy that was in the town, man. I'm sad about the loss of joy within the town. But what I've noticed is... It's cold and stupid outside. Have you been outside?
It's sunny at least. I walk every day. The sun is big.
It's true, the sun is nice.
I mean, yes. When it shows up. The sun is big. It's big to have the sun.

Chapter 5: What insights do the hosts share about coaching changes in the NFL?
not playing for a good long while marshall like other teams are still playing football i'm watching that college football national championship last night i was annoyed like why are these jamokes still playing football it was the last game it was the last game how dare they still play football it's over football's over for everybody
They added to that playoff, so that's why they ended up playing later.
I was happy they were playing at Miami with the plus 7.5. I was very good with that. Oh, really? Yes. So maybe that's the game. You're saying that gambling is what will get me out of this mood? No, no. Not encouraging it in that way. Although, tonight, there's some opportunities with the Bulls on the court tonight to get some money. I'm just telling you. I'm just telling you.
I'm just trying to stay positive, man. Who are these Bulls of which you speak?
Technically, we're making money by being here today.
That's a good point. I need to focus on Layla's, the sage Layla wisdom of what about the friends we made along the way?
Is it sage or is it sarcastic? Quality flannel.
It's very flannel.
It's snuggly. It puts me in a good mood because it's high quality fabric. And they're not paying me to say this.

Chapter 6: How do the hosts discuss the impact of expectations on fan experience?
Do you have a favorite movie?
Just like a favorite?
Yeah, you do.
Lighter movie? A favorite? I mean, lighter. Like if you're flipping the channels and it's on, you'll stop and watch.
Lawrence, is this the night I should watch Predator?
What?
No. Would that get me in a good mood? Would Predator get me? Well, it depends on what Predator we're talking about. I got to start at the beginning, don't you think? Yes, I think the first Predator would put you in a good mood. Good mood? Because you're watching a movie that ends up with what? Two governors and one gubernatorial candidate. You had three guys run for governor from that cast.
Right there.
And Action Jackson's in that movie.

Chapter 7: What are the hosts' thoughts on player contracts and team dynamics?
We get smarter and the listeners get smarter with us as we all figure it out together. It's been lovely. Who have been your favorite Bears friends?
We just had Tim Jenkins on, always a friend. We love Fishbane Hogue. Clay Harbor in studio for an hour.
That's your child. It's not your Bears friend.
He's your large adult son. Henry Melton being a big factor in you guys' show lately. Friend of the show. Yeah, we have made lots of friends along the way. To see the Bears season through people who have played the game and have witnessed how bad the Bears have been in seasons past and to kind of come to this moment, That has been fun.
Guys, we need one of these, a pet bear. WGN is showing a giant pet bear. The Pantolinko family bear.
Until that bear goes bear.
I agree, but that would at least take up some of our bears time with a bear.
That is some Caucasian activity right there.
Texas says Spiegel's grieving corner is very confusing.

Chapter 8: What reflections do the hosts have about their favorite moments from the season?
Him and Kevin Frazier, because Laura Oakman set me up with him, and then... The rest, as they say, is history.
Laura Oakman working a game this weekend for Westwood One.
Yeah, yeah. She's back. She's back. Because she couldn't get Matt Nagy a job. Oh, man. Okay, so the Matt Nagy thing, we talked about it on our show.
Because it's like, Matt Nagy is out of contract. And I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Out of contract. Like, you ain't coming back even if you didn't. That's some Jerry Reisdorf fire right there.
It's interesting to me because they could always find something for him to do. He's the assistant head coach. Or what was he?
Special assistant to the regional manager.
He was special assistant when he first came back there, like special offensive assistant.
Yeah, or quality control. I don't forget what it was.
He wasn't breaking down tape. That's the quality control guy's job. But they can find him a job. It is interesting. And I wonder what sparked this. Was Andy like, hey, man, it's time for you to go? Or was Negi like, I'm totally going, and you need to go find yourself a new offensive coordinator.
