Another one of the guys that we got to talk to today, one of the Bears players who may be more intriguing than any of the rookies heading into their second year, that would be Colston Loveland, a guy who led the Bears in receiving. last year with over 700 yards. Once he figured it out about five, six games into the season, he was one of the best tight ends in the league. I mean, he was explosive. He was the mismatch that everybody thought, and now he is back for more here in his second year. He sounds different, looks a little different, and kind of knows his place more. Dan, what did you make of Colston Lovell? We'll hear from him in a second, but just your overall thoughts on – Here we go, year two of Colston Loveland, who looks like a guy who could potentially be a star.
Well, perfect description because I just think he's on that runway right now or that entrance ramp to stardom because when you talk about the DNA test that they have here currently at House Hall about guys not only having talent but just having this insatiable drive to get better, Loveland has got the Sharpie out, he's checking it, and he's circling it, and he's putting red pen around it, and you just... you just feel like the potential is limitless and you pair him now with a quarterback, with these types of gifts, with a play caller who knows how to use mismatches to the advantages of an offense. And I, you know, Every so often I get overly bullish on a player. I might be approaching that stage rapidly with Colston Loveland because there aren't any warning signs.
There aren't any, well, be careful, pump the brakes on this. He's healthy. He's confident. He's driven. He's dialed in. He's got chemistry with his quarterback. He's got the trust of his coach. You look at everything that's coming together and you're like, oh, God, this could be truly a breakout year for 84. Yeah. All that I agree with. And then you listen to the guy talk. I think it's watching the tape and knowing... It was good for a rookie, but it's not going to be good enough for a second-year or third-year guy. So knowing that I flushed that, like you said, clean up on the tape and the certain things I need to get better at, which is dang near everything. But, yeah, I think it's just going to the offseason, knowing what my strengths and flaws were definitely helps to see what I can focus on, especially coming into this six-week window we had before camp.
What's an example of that, where you saw something on tape where you reflect back and go, man, that just wasn't good enough?
Yeah, I think of, like, for example, in the run game, it's like a stalemate or just kind of hanging on, you know, and runners not getting touched or whatever. I'm doing my job technically, but it's not good enough to put on tape.
