I want to go back to what Jed Hoyer had to say to our afternoon show. It was Ryan McGuffey and Matt Spiegel yesterday at the Cubby Bear talking about what he had seen out of his starting pitcher.
No question. And and I think there was a moment we we talked about with the the trades where it's like, okay, like if if everyone's healthy, we're kind of oversubscribed. And it's like, yeah, but we're that never happens. And so you don't have to don't have to worry about those things. And it has been a frustrating season for him. You know, the blisters have kind of come up a bunch of times. Even times where he didn't go on the IL for it, it was something we were dealing with. Um I think long term is something we have to figure out. He's a really good pitcher, he's had really good seasons. Um we've got to figure out like how to you know keep his hands right and his you know I think that you know you saw yesterday in the was it the fourth inning he has lost command and you you know you can see him picking at his finger and you know we have to avoid that.
It's happened a number of times this year and that that's something we have to figure out over the long over the winter how can we possibly you know strengthen the skin, how can we make sure he doesn't have these issues go you know Mm-hmm. You know, every third start.
Once you hear somebody talking about the plan over the winter to figure things out, I'm not saying he's null and void the rest of the this season, but it sounds like he's going to be t at the back of the line, if you will, because they now have starting depth they didn't have and even bullpen help that they that they are anticipate getting between now and the postseason. Oversubscribed. I love that.
Yeah. I I think I don't wanna look too deep into it, but I think there's an acknowledgement there that this because it's happened so much, it's gonna be difficult to find a resolution in like two days.
Well, there was a follow up too, so he was asked about his role being shorter than potentially.
Yeah, I think that's that's very likely that we that we do and um I think as the season gets shorter we start putting guys in different roles like that, so I think it it makes sense.
You worry about the the routine, the mindset of being able to do it.
Absolutely. I don't think you you don't just you know spring it on 'em. I think it's something you have to work through. But I do think we have a number of guys, you know, working back from injuries that could end up, you know, pitching in in some different roles. Um and that's just the that's the nature of the end of the season. You know, that that's what happens and uh hopefully some of those guys can can you know ex you know kind of create have outgetters, as Craig would say. You know, it might not be conventional starting pitchers, but they can get a lot of you know important outs.
So I feel like when we hear that, he understands that Cabrera is probably not part of their post September plan, it doesn't sound like.
It's hard to see how he would fit into a postseason roster when you look at all the other pitchers they do have and the guys they're waiting to come back, whether it's Daniel Palencia, potentially Shelby Miller. There's there's other guys that can do the stuff that he's talking about Edward Cabrera possibly doing for the first time ever. Here's the
thing with that. And and the Yankees kind of have this issue as well.
