Chapter 1: What are John Chayka's offseason priorities for the Leafs?
Welcome into Real Kipper and Born. I am Justin Bourne. Today, upstairs, we got Frank Baraska and Derek Brandeo. We are... It's not true. It's okay. We got... Jake's up there, isn't he? Jake the Snake's up there. Anyway... We're live on Sportsnet 360, Sportsnet 590, The Fan Toronto, and streaming always on Sportsnet+.
If you miss our show live, you can always get it on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube. And I got to tell you, this is a great day and an exciting day for our listeners as we have the most professional host in the studio. It feels terrible to be doing this right now. We are joined by Carolyn Cameron, host on Sportsnet. How are you, CeCe?
Hello, thanks for having me.
Chapter 2: How does the Leafs' lottery win impact their future decisions?
Oh, thank you. I thought you said it was a great day because it's Friday. Oh, that's for sure. This is weird. We were saying before we came on air, it's weird because normally I'm introducing. It's a control thing, right? But now this is your show and you're introducing.
It feels really unnatural and wrong. You know, we have had like, you know, Amber on stuff and asking him hockey questions does feel like a little out of context, but we appreciate you coming in today.
This is going to be fun. Thanks, guys.
The way I would say that this role is happening today, and yes, DJ Sammy's back. I forgot my headphones at home. I hate it. That you are taking the draws, but Carolyn's the center.
Chapter 3: What should the Leafs do with the number one overall pick?
She is the center. She's playing up the middle of the ice. If you have anything to ask or directions to provide, please help.
I can read promos really well if you have any.
Amazing. You're not going to be here for the second hour. I'll butcher those.
Yeah, we'll handle that. So you come in on kind of a funny week. God. You know, this is Leafs Hour. Yep. Things have been leafing pretty aggressively here. We've got a new hire of a new GM. We've got Matt Sundin back in the fold.
Chapter 4: How do Auston Matthews' comments affect the team's direction?
We've got the number one overall pick. Just where do you sit on all things Leafland these days?
I think like everything in life, it's good that there's been time for everything to marinate a little bit. Even I was actually filling in for Jamie Campbell on Sunday yesterday.
for Blue Jays Central and that's when we threw after the game to Ron and Elliot who had the news breaking it and then fanned out the press conference was the next day so even from that moment just trying to wrap my head around it because at first and I'm still skeptical about the hire as many people are but actually for me Monday's press conference was
It was uncomfortable in the sense more of the questions that were being asked. I wasn't uncomfortable or skeptical about the answers that were given. I thought they handled it pretty well. Did we learn a lot about what their vision is? No. But a lot of questions were about the past. And also, even when we've heard Chayka speak since, like most GMs, they're pretty tight-lipped.
You're not going to get a bunch out of them. So from that, I started thinking, okay, I'm still skeptical, but just show me what you've got. Show me what you're going to do.

Chapter 5: What are the implications of hiring Mats Sundin?
And then I burst out laughing when they got the first overall pick.
Yeah, yeah.
Because it was just so unbelievable. Not just the odds, but the fact that it actually happened after those 48 hours. I know. So now I'm kind of, like, everything's settled. So now I'm like, okay, where do we go? Like, you meet with Berube. You have to figure that out. Where do you go with the number one pick? Right? I just feel a little more, maybe grounded is the word I'm looking for. Yeah.
It's really well said. And it's so funny, those two days, it reminded me of my favorite 30 Rock quote, where it's like, oh, what a week, huh?
Chapter 6: How does Luke Fox view the Matthews factor in the offseason?
Lemon, it's Tuesday.
It's just like...
Those 48 hours of me sitting at that press conference when I went down there just watching and feeling the tension. I love that you went. I did. I felt like you should probably go. I mean, it took 25 minutes on the subway. You should probably go down there and check it out, have the ability.
From that feeling, leaving there to sitting at your Canlin rink to watching the number 12 ball come up on my phone, I can't picture forever. feeling two different ways. Like, the way I felt at that presser versus the way I felt at 7.35 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday night, it's just, what a swing.
Do you feel more grounded now? There's a lot to do, though. Because that's two highs, right?

Chapter 7: What are the potential free agent fits for the Leafs?
Like, that's two rollercoaster.
Yeah, there's a lot to do, but... I think it's a great question, and... It's nice that now there's a clear picture of where they're at and that they have just a future. There's choices they can make. If you want to go down the road with building with Matthews, with McKenna, if you want a life after Matthews, there's all these different kind of ways you can go.
And that's what makes me feel the most grounded. I'm super interested to be a fly on the wall on those two meetings that are potentially happening. with Berube and the brain trust and Matthews and the brain trust to be a fly. Like, I have no idea what would go into that, but it'd be fascinating.
I will say the one thing that stands out to me is just the lack of stability as the Leafs fans. Like, you're online a little bit. Like, the reaction to some of this stuff, it's high, it's low, it's whatever. But every time it feels like we get pulled back with something positive, like the number one overall pick, the next day it's like, oh, but Matthews wants to leave.
It's just like, my God, can we have something for a day here? I don't know how you feel about some of that news.

Chapter 8: How does the Leafs' fan base react to offseason changes?
So Chris Johnson had the report. Elliot has, you know, I don't know if you'd say he confirmed it, but he's also talking about the idea that potentially. I would say alluded to the fact that there might be something there. You know, and the way it sounds right now is that Matthews wants to see what the Leafs can do.
He wants to be a part of, you know, he wants to see what it looks like before he says yay or nay. I know some people don't love that. Like, you know, are you in or are you out? How do you feel about where it stands with him?
I have two feelings on it. I think he does not need to have a sense or a feeling or verbalize how he feels about two years from now, right? Like, you don't have to right now know if you want to be here in two years, in two summers from now. But currently, you have two years left in your deal. You're the captain of the team. This was the first off year in terms of missing the playoffs.
And you yourself have also had two injury-riddled seasons where you haven't had strong seasons. True.
Individual performances.
Exactly. So that bothers me in the sense of... Yes, you can be worried about the future, but coming back in the fall shouldn't be a question.
No, it shouldn't be hard to say. You have a pretty live group chat, right?
You have a pretty, like... It reminds me of Sam. Like, it's just like a Leafs fan group chat.
You could call me the human group chat.
