Chapter 6: What is the current customer base and revenue for Blurbiz?
His name is Tamer Dalpota and he is the head of product at Blurbiz, a SaaS platform for media companies to create, distribute, and monetize vertical videos on Snapchat. He's a 500 Startups company and he's the winner of the 2014 South by Southwest Startup Challenge hosted by Gary Vee and his startup Candy Cruisers. He co-founded the third largest social media touring company.
He's also featured on TED Talks, led a million dollar fund, and has been featured on numerous magazine covers. Tamar, are you ready to take us to the top?
Of course, yeah. Let's get started, Nathan. Really glad to have you on the call.
Good, good, good.
Chapter 7: What challenges does Blurbiz face in fundraising and valuation?
So let's just jump right in. Tell us what Blur Biz does and how does it make money?
So Blurb is a SaaS platform. It allows publishers like BuzzFeed, PopSugar, TechCrunch, all these content creators to actually publish high-quality content directly onto Snapchat. And we make money by selling our SaaS tools, which gives you analytics, high-quality editing features, and publishing features, scheduling features to all these companies.
Chapter 8: What advice does Timur have for aspiring entrepreneurs?
So break down kind of the numbers for me. What year was the business founded in?
So it was founded actually last year. So that would be 2015? Yep, and the product didn't launch until actually this March.
Got it, okay. So what were you doing between kind of launch date and March?
So actually, surprisingly, we actually pivoted. We pivoted to what we were doing before. So before, what we were doing is influencer marketing on Snapchat. And working with all these brands like Invisalign, Coca-Cola, Disney, Awesomeness TV, we found out there's a big gap that's missing in Snapchat, especially when it comes to pushing out high content directly.
Because what's going on in Snapchat right now is... You have 20 to 21 publisher content that Snapchat has given access to to make good content like CNN, Cosmopolitan, BuzzFeed, and the rest of all these channels are left out. So that's where we come in and we come in and we give you the same superpowers that Snapchat's giving to all the discovery partners.
How do you do that though? Like if I signed up, you're going to give me editing tools that allows me to like edit my videos and make cool Snapchat stories and publish them live?
Yeah, so if you sign up, you can exactly. So what you do is you sign up, you link your Snapchat account to it. So your username, your login, and it connects directly to your Snapchat portal. And then you just push out content. So think of us as a huge suite with editing tools for Snapchat.
Okay, good. I just signed up on Blurbiz.com. So add me so I can test this thing. Tell me pricing wise. So you guys make money on a subscription. You just launched. How many customers are currently working with you guys?
Oh, so we have, so the newest one we signed on board is GQ Magazine, CN Traveler. So pretty much what you find out working with publishers is that everything is pretty much owned by one big company. It seems like it's a lot of media, different publications, but it's actually owned by one thing. So we make money by charging a subscription model that we charge anywhere between $2,000 to $5,000.
