09 Sep 2016
Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
This is The Top, where I interview entrepreneurs who are number one or number two in their industry in terms of revenue or customer base.
Chapter 2: How did Joe Apfelbaum start Ajax Union?
You'll learn how much revenue they're making, what their marketing funnel looks like, and how many customers they have. I'm now at $20,000 per talk. Five and six million.
Chapter 3: What was Ajax Union's revenue growth from 2009 to 2015?
He is hell-bent on global domination. We just broke our 100,000-unit soul mark. And I'm your host, Nathan Latka. Okay, Top Tribe, this week's winner of the $100 is Zach Faron.
Chapter 4: What strategies did Ajax Union implement to focus on profitability?
He's a 22-year-old Apple employee, and he's listening to the show and loving it. For your chance to win $100 every Monday, simply subscribe to the podcast on iTunes now, and then text the word NATHAN to 33444 to prove that you did it to enter. Okay, many of you heard I made a big league acquisition of a company called SendLater. And I'm a greedy business guy.
Chapter 5: What is the significance of revenue per client for Ajax Union?
I didn't want to give away equity to a technical co-founder. So I found my coders on a website called TopTal at NathanLatka.com forward slash T-O-P-T-A-L. I paid over $12,000 to the site to a guy named He Sheming in China, who I've never met, but we're going to build a big business together. I'm taking SendLater public by the time I turn 30.
Chapter 6: How did Joe Apfelbaum manage his lifestyle while running a business?
I'll tell you more about TopTal later on in this episode. Top Tribe, this is episode 412.
Chapter 7: What insights does Joe share about his podcast and future projects?
Coming up tomorrow morning, you're going to hear from Matilde Collin. She's a SaaS founder. She did $242,000 last month. That's her MRR.
Chapter 8: What are Joe's favorite tools and books for entrepreneurs?
She's raised $13 million to reinvent business email with her company, FrontApp. Top of the tribe, good morning. Our guest today is Joe Affelbaum. He is the CEO and co-founder of Ajax Union, a digital marketing agency based in Brooklyn. He's a public speaker, certified Google trainer, and published business author.
He enjoys speaking, writing about a broader range of business topics in his seminars, webinars, and articles. He's host of a popular podcast called CEO Mojo and has been featured on popular podcasts, including HowlRod and New Customer Machine.
He's also the producer of Grow Time TV and a member of the board of directors of the Entrepreneurs Organization in Brooklyn, a member with over 11,000 CEOs and a contributing member of the Inc. Business Owners Council, a community of the fastest growing companies in the United States.
He's proud of all these accomplishments, but most of all, he is proud of his successful foodie wife and beautiful, amazing kids. Joe, are you ready to take us to the top? I am ready.
Let's do this.
How many kids? Well, we just had our fifth two weeks ago, so I'm trying to leave right now.
Yeah.
The only reason I will ever have kids is if I have so many businesses, I need help running them, then I will have children. And I have to start with obviously finding a spouse first, but that's another story. Talk, take me back, Joe, your co-founder of Ajax union. Was this your first business?
Yeah. So Ajax union was not my first business. I had many six figure businesses before Ajax union. And I remember working at, as a full-time job as a CMO of the watchery.com. And I helped them grow from, from a mere $3 million to $40 million in revenue. And I remember, is it a SaaS business or what? No, it sold luxury watches online, a retailer, online retailer, an e-commerce business.
