The Oilers trailed the San Jose Sharks by three goals in the third period, but rallied to win 4-3 in overtime. Zach Hyman sealed it just one minute and six seconds into extra time with a one-timer off a cross ice pass from Connor McDavid.
Earlier, the Sharks jumped ahead fast. Colin Graff scored 26 seconds in, Adam Gaudette made it 2-0 on a breakaway, and Michael Mesa pushed it to 3-0 midway through.
Chapter 2: What led to the Edmonton Oilers' incredible comeback against the San Jose Sharks?
The second. Edmonton goalie Connor Ingram faced tough luck early, but the Oilers exploded in the third. Leon Dreisedel cut it to 3-1 early, McDavid made it 3-2 with a wrist shot, and Evan Beauchard tied it at 3-all with 19-0-1. Left on a slap shot that beat the goalie through traffic, with Ingram pulled for an extra attacker.
Oilers players called it classic hockey, never in doubt against a team that fights back. Their coach loved snapping a three-game win-street drought and gaining ground in the division, since San Jose has games in hand. Sharks admitted they defended okay for 40 minutes, but sat back too much late against the league's best offense.
This marks Edmonton's first three-goal third-period comeback win since November 2022.
Bouchard has 11 points over his last four games, McDavid hit 10 career 60-assist seasons, and the Oilers look primed heading into the stretch. DNN is sponsored by our partner. Check out the episode description. When I need calm, I press play on a solely pillow.
