Breakfast with Gary and Tim. It's great to have you with us.
We had a very good morning so far. Wednesday it is the 29th of July and we've got some clear air. Georgie Samios will join us in this hour, hopefully with a big announcement, so get yourself organised and get ready. Jack Russell's just left the building. It's fascinating having a chat with him on air and off air about strength and conditioning programs and what's working and what's not.
It's a fascinating area, isn't it? And the deeper you dive on this and the more people you talk around a football, it is extraordinary how differently different clubs approach this and how some get it right and some don't get it right. The other thing, yesterday we were talking about goal kicking. And I went away after the show thinking about, and we read a lot and we hear from, say, Tom Brady, like these superstar athletes. Yeah, Steph Curry, these great athletes. Kobe Bryant talked about how many shots that they would take. And I'm not talking during the season when they're training and they're preparing to play week in, week out. I'm talking about in the off season. And if I was to say to you, How much time do you think, you know, when players have a break, and I know they still do conditioning work and that type of thing when they're away from the club, how much time do you think average players would put into just going down to the Oval?
I'm talking about Nick Larkey. If I said to Nick Larkey, how many shots did you take in your off-season, last pre-season, between the last season and then when you started pre-season again for this season?
I don't know. I don't know the answer. I would hope lots.
You would hope, but I never hear anyone talking about that part of it. I hear them going away to America and training and running and doing other exercise, and that is all great. But I just wonder, given this is a ball sport, I just wonder how many of them pick up a footy and absolutely try and work on their skills in the off-season.
Yeah, well, it's hard to answer because we don't know. We just heard a story, and we won't name – you know, who it is, about someone who's doing exactly that. Yes. From our view, it's benefiting him enormously. He's having a fantastic season. But I wasn't aware that he's doing that extra stuff.
And he's done it off his own bat as well, which is more impressive.
There might be players that are doing that that we don't know about. Here's questions without notice. So anything you want to get involved with here, you certainly can. 1-300-736-736. You can call. You'll get through. We've got a strong text fraternity here. 0433-9811-16. Jamie Graham is in for Essendon and Carlton. Yes. Let's have a listen to Andrew Brayshaw, who knows him fairly well.
He's an amazing connector. The playing group really love him. He's got every right to go for and hopefully get one of those roles. We'd be sad to see him go, but he's definitely done his apprenticeship under JL and I think he's ready to be a head coach. But yeah, an amazing connector, a really good leader. Sees the game really well. He's able to have a laugh, but also really make us focus and get to work when we need to.
And John Wardrop, who is part of the Essendon – well, not the official, but he will – No, interview process he is. They will present to him, along with Kevin Musket. He has spoken glowingly of his – when he was at the West Coast Eagles, he says he's right up there with Sivo and Bevo and all these – ringing endorsement. Glowing. Are you confident if he ends up getting the job at Essendon that Essendon fraternity will embrace him, the supporter base, having overlooked James Heard again for –
Because he doesn't have the profile, he hasn't had the connection to Essendon. There's no connection. None. No, I think it's tougher. But then I go back to... I don't know that anybody was cracking the champagne corks when Stephen King was announced coach of Melbourne. But how quickly did he draw people in? And this is even before they started playing because of the way that he spoke and because of his intentions and that type of thing.
