One of the things I love most about the story of Siddhartha Gautama and the subsequent teachings of that story is the simplicity of its message, I suppose. Although, being able to practice the learnings of that message is, of course, as always, easier said than done. But if you're not familiar with the story of Siddhartha Gautama or even you may not actually know who Siddhartha Gautama is, and that is the real name of the person who is commonly referred to as the Buddha, And it's been a little while since I really learnt about this story and refreshed my memory. And in a way maybe that will be quite helpful because I will be able to give you more of a concise, kind of simplified version of the events that will hopefully be a little easier, less convoluted to understand.
But essentially, Siddhartha Gautama, as the story goes, he was a prince, a very wealthy prince at that. And from birth, he lived a life of opulence within the walls of the palace where he lived. And he had his every need provided for. And as such, he lived a life where he didn't really want for much, or anything that he wanted for was fairly immediately taken care of, I suppose. A great life of grand opulence, you could say. Until one day, he decided that he needed to leave the palace, which he had never done before in his life. and and see what was actually happening outside in the streets and uh he met several people on his journeys outside and i forget exactly who he meets um one of them was an old person
and one of them was a sick person and these were the first times that he was encountering the concepts of aging and the concepts of illness and there were two other people but i've actually forgotten who it is who it is that he meets um well one of them was also a spiritual seeker i believe someone seeking a spiritual enlightenment for themselves
