At some point during the visit. was really excited to show me a particular YouTube video. They'd found Of a gentleman Who was exploring a forest and all his videos. were of himself exploring. The forest. Looking for fairies.
Or at least what he described as fairies. And the really curious thing about this YouTube channel was that There were several videos. Of this man. Going through this particular forest that was meant To have had Or shall I say? There were reports. Historical reports of fairies existing within this forest. And He had several videos, as I say. Where he was unsuccessful. In finding them. And these videos. All of them. On his YouTube channel didn't. Really have too many views at all. But there was one. Video. Where He very much seemed to have found The fairies. And he had video evidence of them. Uh My dad, very excitedly. Showed me this video. And It was of the style of found footage, if you know what I mean by that, that kind of um as if very much someone was just recording it with their phone.
Um, so as that it did really did look very realistic to witness this. Little sprite like humanoid creature. with I b I believe, in memory it didn't have wings, it wasn't flying around as one might traditionally think of the sort of Tinkerbell esque fairy.

I've also studied media of course and special effects. And Clearly to my eye it was CGI. It was created. Um in a computer software. Of some kind. But my dad Was marvelling at it. Really? Um He sort of presented it to me as if it were Proof. Of fairies, in a way. And now I think it's probably a good time to give some context to my dad a little bit because This was not perhaps a Completely out of the blue. for him to do. Because As long as I have known him. Which I suppose is as long as my life. He has had a fascination. with the idea of fairies. And He has several books on the topic.
And several pieces of lovely artwork. Of fairies that have been Quite formative, I suppose, to my Love of myth and fantasy. And He has always spoken of them. In folklore. And in stories to me, especially when I was young. And created this atmosphere of magic. In forests. Um This idea Off. Of it being quite possible that At any moment. A little fairy could Come out from hiding. From some Under root or some tree trunk. And That was a really magical feeling to grow up with. And in instilled something within me,

think. Um That I will I s suppose speak a little bit more about later. But to go back to the story of of this YouTube video that my dad was uh Eager Two show me. It wasn't. I think a couple of days. Until Uh home. Sleam and I. I'd had time to reflect and and think on this. Then I researched the videos a little bit. Closer myself and Found that the YouTube channel that he had stumbled across was Was in fact That of a uh a project of a CGI student. Who was very much intentionally Trying to create A set of videos that fell. Very real. Um that felt like they Could trick someone into feeling. Like this gentleman had gone through the forest and After Many attempts finally found a fairy. And In a way I I sort of regret. Doing this.
But I just go to my dad. And say to him. Hey look, I've I've found that this was actually uh A CGI project. And There was this really curious emotion from my dad, which was Sort of a resigned. Acceptance. Mixed with a deflation. And it made me realize that on a particular level He kind of already knew, and wasn't surprised. Really? To hear me say that it was false.
