Then on Thursdays, I do an episode called Headline Highlights, where in that episode, I break down what is happening in the true crime world in real time that week. case updates breaking news trial updates whatever it is and i will say for those episodes on thursdays a lot of the times the cases that i'm discussing are user submissions from you listeners and viewers because it's cases you've been following watching and you just you know you want to discuss it together and so that is what i do podcaster of the people Now, like I said, we have a lot to talk about today. And the reason why is because Netflix just released a new documentary called A Toxic Love Story.
Now, you've heard me say it before, but I'm going to say it again. It really grinds my gears. I hate that expression, but I'm going to use it. It grinds my gears when Netflix does not include all the information. And I mentioned this when I covered the Taylor Parker case, which that documentary, if you watched it on Netflix, was Maternal Instincts. I did the full like two parter deep dive, which if you watched it and you want to know more, that is several episodes back in the feed. But I think I mentioned it then that it's not Netflix fault. OK, let me tell you how it works now that I've seen a little bit behind the curtain of Netflix. into the production world and all of that. Sometimes Netflix does produce these themselves and, you know, they can have an internal team potentially working on it.
But more times than not, It's a third party company that puts these cases together with their own researchers, their own talking head, their own fact checkers, or, you know, I don't wanna say lack thereof, but like their own fact checkers, and then they sell it to Netflix. So Netflix then buys it, gets the licensing to it, publishes it, and puts the Netflix stamp on it. So it's not Netflix's fault that, you know, sometimes the content doesn't include everything. Also, you can only squeeze so much content into one episode, right? But that is what I'm here for, because I like to do the deep dives so you don't have to. I found myself always just like watching a documentary and simultaneously Googling things about the case on my phone.
So I was like, you know, if I'm doing this, I'm sure other people are. Why don't I just deliver all of that information in my coverage of it? And so when I saw that a toxic love story was released, which... Hello, if I had a nickel for every time I heard about a toxic love story, I mean, we have covered so many of them on this podcast together. But when I saw this released and watched it, immediately I knew just within the first 30 seconds that it covered a case that unfortunately, I know all too well. And when I tell you I went to the trenches of hell to research this case back when I first covered it, I found out so much information, like all the lore, everything all the way back.
