And well, in the end, we did at least get a dramatic conclusion to the US Open, even if the facts of the matter are that the eventual champion took the lead at 7pm on Thursday and didn't once relinquish it for 72 straight hours. Wyndham Clark is a two-time US Open champion after a mightily impressive display of front-running performance. where he overcame not just the brutal Shinnecock Hills set up, but thousands of frothing at the mouth Long Islanders who, just as they had done at Bethpage in last year's Ryder Cup, were determined to make sure they were one of the biggest talking points of last week.
We shall get into that and lots more with both of my guests today. First of all, a man who finished in a tie for 23rd. Backing up a top 20 finish last year at Oakmont as well with another really positive week. No doubt shattered both mentally and physically today, but taking the time out to chat to us. I'm good. I've just woken up from a nap. So yes, it was a tiring week last week. I think all US Opens are, but Shinnecock feels just that little bit more testing for whatever reason.

Yeah, great panel week, absolutely. Listen, gents, let's get straight into it. I mean, I've just said the brutal setup, carnage at Shinnecock, but the truth is it wasn't nearly as silly as it got in 2018 or indeed 2004. So what was it like, Foxy?
Well, I played 18 and I had some very bad memories of that place. And it was very fair this year, to be honest. You know, the USGA obviously got it right the first couple of days with the win that we were winning. I think we would have struggled to get round if the course was as firm as it was on Sunday, on Thursday. You know, Chris Goddard's ball was moving Sunday morning on the greens, or was it Saturday morning on the greens? And, you know, Thursday they were slow and soft. And, you know, obviously Wyndham went out and played great, but the scoring still wasn't spectacular. And then... They let it kind of firm up, and I think by Sunday it got to about what it was on Thursday in 2018. Obviously on Sunday we had nice conditions, and if you played well you could still score, but there was still plenty of carnage out there if you didn't control your ball very well.
Did they get it just right, Brandl, the USGA, or could they have pushed it to the limits a smidge more?
I thought they did. You know, at first when I heard the fairways were going to be 48 yards wide, I thought, gosh, you know, it's going to be so power prejudice. But when I got on the property and I walked it around, I played Shinnecock a few times. I didn't play in any opens there, but I walked around and I thought, you know, it's so windy here and the fairways are so undulated and the greens are so difficult to hit.
How did the Long Island crowd affect Wyndham Clark during the final round?
if you had narrow fairways there, it never hit any greens. You know, the three previous U.S. Opens there, the winners averaged just over 42 greens in regulation. You think about that. The winners, the guy who's playing the best golf missed 30 greens. That's crazy. I mean, most people who win majors hit – 54 to 62 greens. I mean, they're missing 30. It's a scrambling. So I thought, actually, I think they got it right. The fairways needed to be very wide and generous. And then from there, it was probably as difficult a test as you've ever played, probably, Ryan, or one of them.
