Chapter 1: What was the outcome of the Everton vs. Leeds match?
You're listening to the Sky Sports Premier League podcast. We were on Merseyside for Monday Night Football to see Everton go up against Leeds United. Here's how things sounded when the full-time whistle blew.
The spoils shared for these two sides who were hoping for so much more tonight, but Tiano Barry, his scoring run continues and his goal earning Everton a point to cancel out the opener from James Justin in the first half, his first Premier League goal for Leeds United. So not much movement for either of these sides ultimately, and Leeds United will take the point in the end on the roads.
The final score from Hill Dickinson is Everton 1, Leeds United 1. Great game, great entertainment on a Monday night. Jimmy Floyd, did you enjoy that?
Yeah, I did. A game of two halves. First half, Leeds were absolutely magnificent, and second half, Everton came back, and rightly, they scored, they were a better team in the second half, Lots of entertainment, it was a good battle.
Interesting, not much there between David Moyes and Dominic Caldwell-Lewin. A little handshake and that was it. As good as Leeds were in the first half, it seemed that Everton matched them in the second, Jamie. Well, they had to improve, they were so poor in the first half. But credit to the manager, he actually changed the system, he matched up.
with Leeds, that three at the back, and Leeds' wing-backs were causing huge problems in that first half, and they got themselves back into the game, and then he switched it again, you know, took one of the, I think it was Patterson off, put O'Brien back to right-back, put the extra attacker on as well, and they almost won, but it was a brilliant game.
You felt the noise, didn't you, of the Everton fans in that second half, willing their team on. The goal came, but they just couldn't find that winner. And David Moyes and Daniel Farker have to settle for a point each, now winning four now, despite the return of Illman and Jai and Idrissa Gueye to the Everton team tonight.
And Leeds now just one defeat in ten matches and another point closer to their aim, which is another season of Premier League football. So they're up to 26. Six-point cushion on West Ham United. And one ahead of Nottingham Forest.

Chapter 2: How did Thierno Barry's performance impact the game?
And for a while there, they were on the same points tally it looked like as Crystal Palace ahead of them, who've taken just two points from the last 24. And Spurs, who've been in on such a tricky run of form as well. It feels like all those teams are right in the mix along with the Hammers right now. And that point was enough to see Everton into the top half, just, and it's so tight there.
They're actually, what, only four points from fifth place in what might be Champions League football next season. Five points off the top four. If they can get that home form going, you just never know. More live football for you on Wednesday. And it comes from the FIFA Women's Champions Cup. Corinthians take on Gotham FC. That's 12.15 Sky Sports Football.
And it's taking place at Brentford's G-Tech Community Stadium. As is the second semi-final. When Arsenal get involved taking on the Moroccan side. 5.30 that one. Sky Sports Football. And as a once-in-a-generation storm hits, former detective-turned-teacher Jackie Ellis investigates a shocking crime in her small town.
Starring Kelly Riley and Rafe Spall under salt marsh starts Friday on Sky Atlantic. Really entertaining stuff from Neil Dickinson tonight. Leeds really good in the first half and a great fight back from second, as is reflected in these first half, second half stats.
You can see that Leeds with ten shots in the first half were right on top but Everton came back into it with six shots in the second half and all three of their efforts on target came in that second half in which they were really on top. Found the equalising goal but couldn't quite push for the winner. So they have to settle for a point apiece.
Let's get some reaction first of all from the Everton dressing room we can hear from James Garner and the goalscorner Tina Barry with P Mullenstein.
Well it was an important point at the end how do you reflect on that performance today?
Yeah I think the first half we were sloppy we wasn't quite at the races so we had to change something in the second half and the manager did but on two subs and I think you've seen in the second half we were a much better team and probably should have won it.
What was the message from the manager at half-time? What did he want to see change?

Chapter 3: What strategies did Everton implement in the second half?
I just need to work every day to be ready for the week to score. I worked all day, so I'm happy.
It's a point, but how important was that reaction, as you mentioned, in that second half to be able to get something from this game?
We were going into the game hoping to get the three but I think like I've already said the first half wasn't good enough and we needed to react and that is what we did so we'll have to take the point and we'll have to move on.
It's obviously a strong away form at the moment but how important is it as well to replicate that here on home soil?
Yeah, no, we need to start putting in the performances at home as well now. Like you've just touched on them, we're very good away, so we need to bring that form home and start picking up points here.
Well, I spoke to you both last week, and I remember you said that you were hoping you were going to get the Player of the Match award the next time that you two were together. That's exactly what's happened, so if you wouldn't mind doing the honours.
Congrats, Eva. Thank you. First one.
Thank you. Well done, thank you very much.
Proud young man, play of the match and a vital goal for Everton, and didn't he take it well, Jimmy?

Chapter 4: How did Leeds United perform in the first half?
You're like Craig. You know the brilliant thing about that is when we watched him the first half of the season, you almost felt for him. He almost looked shy. He almost looked like... I saw that in the interview as well, Jamie. No, I see, but what I'm saying is that's confidence. The celebration is confidence because he scored four in five games.
At the start of the season, you're looking like a boy who'd come from Villarreal, didn't feel like he fitted in really. You almost felt sorry for him, you know, watching him play. But do you think that type of celebration, that only comes with sort of a confidence and an arrogance. Villanette. personality is coming out.
What is good about him? He worked his socks off. He works really hard. Now, does everything come off? No, but he can get better at the simple things, you know, the combination work, the holding up the ball, when to go into the space and when not. But the good thing that he has, he's got a nose for the goal. You know, he's got four in five. This goal he took really, really well.
He's going to score more goals. He needs to work on the other things of the game.
Brilliant finish and earned his side a point tonight after James Justin had given Leeds United the lead in the first half. And we can hear from him now with P. Mullinstein.
It's a point, but it's an important point in the Premier League. What's your assessment of that performance today?
I feel like we started the first half pretty well although in the first 10 seconds they got a corner but overall in the first half we played quite well and went a goal up and had a few chances to make it more but didn't take them and then obviously they're a decent side and established Premier League side so you know coming away to a place like this they can have their spells and most of the second half we were defending and in the end we'll take a point.
Let's talk about that first half because it felt like Leeds were really in control. What do you think worked particularly well in that opening 45?
I just feel like we had trust in the way we were playing and we had a bit of confidence coming into the game. It also helps having longer to prepare for the game, which we had. But it's just one of those things. There's ebbs and flows in football and you just have to ride the wave when you can.

Chapter 5: What were the key factors leading to Everton's equalizer?
But in this one situation, we could have... invest a bit more in order to avoid the cross in. And then, of course, Bury was in one step quicker than my centre-back and was avoidable. But overall, good performance from the lads and a good point also for us.
Let's talk about that first half performance, because it seemed like you really were able to manage Everton at that point. What did you think that Leeds did really well at that stage?
Yes, we need to control the offensive game. They attack a lot over the left side, they attack a lot the channels. We were well prepared and didn't allow any chances in this first half. On the other hand, it was important to be brave with the ball, to create situations.
Chapter 6: What insights did James Garner provide about the match?
The gut feeling was we should have scored or with the final pass we would have had even more big chances, but especially Dominic then with the chance was pretty close to score the second goal. Also, Ilya grew with overall excellent away performance on Premier League level and it was important in order to win here at least one point.
Well, James Justin got the goal in the first half. How important for you as well to see him getting on the score sheet?
Yes, he embodies everything Leeds United is all about. Top character, diligent, smart player, gives everything, always thinks about the team, unselfish. Wherever I need him, right back, centre back, left back, right wing back, left wing back, I can always count on him. He delivers, it's great to have him.
With his quality, he can also score here and there, goals sometimes, although he's perhaps not made just for goal scoring, but it's great to have him in the squad.
There were of course changes made by Everton at the start of the second half, a change in formation as well. How do you feel that your team have managed that?
I think against the ball was not the problem because we allowed them a bit more possession but the feeling was especially in our half we defended everything really well we lost a little bit our process in possession would have preferred of course a bit more possession and to create a bit more out of out of the situation when we had the ball we still looked dangerous out of the counter-attack a bit better in our process and possession to calm the game here a bit more down would
would have been beneficial, but overall I also have to say we are a newly promoted side and it's also normal that Everton, once they are in a losing position against us, they would show up and have also sometimes dominant spells in possession, so I can't complain too much about it.
So in terms of the actual scoreline then, so you take a point, but it is a really important point, in terms of the aims that Leeds are looking to achieve this season, just in terms of your opinion, how important is it?
Yes, 26 points, we etched one point closer. It's also good for the confidence to stay another game unbeaten and to show another competitive away performance there. We need a few more wins, a few more draws, because we want to stay in this league. This is a major goal, we want a good pass, but nothing is achieved yet.
