Morata’s double helps unbeaten Chelsea kill off Palace
04 Nov 2018
Chapter 1: What were the highlights of Chelsea's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace?
Tompkins is there, back to Pedro again.
Morata, time for a dunk.
Scores. It's threaded in.
Morata gets another one. Morata the double to help Chelsea to a 3-1 win, the first time in a year he's scored more than once in the Premier League, and for him, it's four in four. He's been chatting with Geoff Shreeves.
Alvaro, congratulations. Normally a win and two goals, you'd be very, very happy. Or are you thinking about the third?

Chapter 2: How did Alvaro Morata contribute to Chelsea's performance?
Yeah, honestly, I think in the last 10 minutes to make the third and I think the keeper go on the floor, but I can score a trick and for me it's not the perfect day, but we take the three points. We're on the top. Now, in the first three places, there's an important thing for us. We want to fight till the end for the Premier League and I think we played good today and we have the three points.
The fact that you're disappointed not to get three goals, does that just show what great form you're in right now? Four goals in the last four Premier League games.
But it can be more. Today I think a lot in the hat-trick and it's not good, but I'm improving and I want to help my team to keep working and to win.
The first goal was the most important touch, the first touch.
Yeah, when Pedro is on the floor, I know that he always gets up quickly and gives me the ball, and the good touch is good, and after I finish good.

Chapter 3: What were the key moments that shifted the game's momentum?
What changed, do you think, in the second half? Because Crystal Palace came back at you, was there a determination from Chelsea?
Yeah, but they score 1-1 and we think that we need to win this game. We need to be on the top of the league with the other teams and it's only this. We need to get the three points and we have this in our head.
That's you second now above Liverpool on goal difference. The manager refuses to talk about the title or the title race, but you, the players, do you see yourselves right in this race?
It's very hard because the Premier League is the most competitive championship in the world and I think it will be very, very difficult but we want and until now we don't give the three points to another team and we want to take all the points as possible and it's the only way to try to fight for the Premier League.
And for you personally, how happy are you right now? Because there was a period with no goals, but the goals have started to come once again.

Chapter 4: How did Crystal Palace respond to Chelsea's early goals?
Yeah, the goals are like this. When you have a very bad period, it takes long to recover. The last year was very difficult for me, for many things. For an injury, you don't expect an injury. I played not fit and now I'm good. The team is good and now it's time to enjoy this.
It's also time for me to give you the Man of the Match award. Congratulations, well done.
Thank you.
Yeah, good afternoon for Alvaro Morata.
Chapter 5: What factors contributed to Chelsea's unbeaten run this season?
Might have been even better. Five shots he had on the goal. Scored two from the three he managed on target, but might well have had a hat-trick. We'll come to that. For a Crystal Palace man, though, Joel, how difficult was that last half an hour?
I think we were unfortunate and hard done by. I think if you looked at the game, I don't think you'd see it as a 3-1. But I think they took their chances when it came, which is what Chelsea do. It was frustrating not to come away with a point after a great move to get us back into the game.
Through the game, really, they scored at the right times, didn't they?
Chapter 6: How did the introduction of Eden Hazard change the game?
How disappointing was it to go in one down actually at half-time, having started so well?
Yeah, obviously it's not ideal, but I think, I said to the guys earlier, I think the positive that we have is that we're always going to create chances. When we've got the boys in the attacking threats that we do, we're always going to create something along the way and we took that chance today. But unfortunately, obviously they've capitalised and scored the other two.
Do you think that was the spark that got him going today, Jermaine, that finish?
I think, yeah, because we said it before, half-time, before the goal, they seemed frustrated, couldn't really get into their rhythm, turned the ball over a lot more than we normally expect, to be honest, with the football that they've been playing this season. Cheap giveaways.
And then once they got the goal, they got into their rhythm and they made it really difficult for Palace to get close to them and that's when they started playing. How good was the Palace fight back? Fight back was good.

Chapter 7: What did Roy Hodgson say about Palace's performance?
Scored a good goal. Good finish by Andros. Again, after that, we said at half-time, you know, second half, the manager probably said, you know what, just same again. Be patient. And hopefully just wait for that chance. And the chance came here. And this is top forward play, but Andros sort of comes short, you know, set back and then spun in behind. And it's a great finish.
And obviously David Luiz, you know, he was ball-watching. This is probably a better angle here.
Chapter 8: What are the implications of this match for the title race?
Typical striker, though. Talking about the striker's role.
What about the midfielder's role, though, Jermaine? Come on. Look at this little par. It is an unbelievable pass, to be honest.
It was a nice ball from Tompkins in the first place. Yeah, I think Tompkins breaks the line and then sets it up and obviously Maka can then play off Andros and because of Andros' movement, he's almost made up Maka's mind to play that ball.
play that ball through for Andros to go and score. And he was delighted, wasn't he? His first goal in 20 Premier League appearances. Now, Jamie, something you spotted involving Marcus Alonso. First of all, when we see David Luiz forcing a great save here from Wayne Hennessey.
tactic that they do. They did it against Southampton. Just keep your eye on Marcus Alonso, Sacco and then David Luiz. Watch Marcus Alonso. He's going to grab hold of Sacco and impede him and then that leaves that space for David Luiz to get into the gap where you're looking for an area where maybe there's some space that opens up. You can see it's a definite foul. He's got hold of his arm.
Sacco makes a meal of it. And then that obviously has implications on the goal, the second goal as well, because you can see it's a definite foul. It's an NBA-type move, as we say. Giroud did, I think it was a few weeks ago, the Southampton game, very similar. And we'll come back to that in a minute. But it obviously had a massive part.
Hazard, of course, coming onto the pitch helps as well when you've got a player of that quality.
Stay with us on that, because Eden Hazard then comes on the pitch 30 seconds later. Chelsea have won a free kick. And, Joel, there might be some doubt in your mind whether that's actually a foul.
I think it's one of those ones he's kind of trying to play for it. And unfortunately, he's caught him slightly.
