Chapter 1: What were the highlights of Watford's victory over Chelsea?

5.566 - 28.063 David Jones

Well, what a night this was for Watford. One win in 12 going into this. They've scored four for the third time ever in the Premier League. And they've done it against Chelsea. They've beaten them for the first time in 19 years. These are the champions, remember. Conceded three back-to-back defeats for the first time since 1995. The drama keeps on coming next weekend.

0

28.143 - 49.528 David Jones

Watching the runaway leaders Manchester City take on Leicester, will Mahrez be in action against City? 5.15, we start later time this coming Saturday. Super Sunday features Newcastle and Manchester United. That starts from 1.30, Southampton, Liverpool, the later game. And we see Chelsea again next Monday night when they take on the bottom side, West Brom.

0

51.854 - 64.598 David Jones

Wayne Rooney is our special guest tonight. We'll be talking to Wayne about Manchester United and England in lots more detail before the night is out. But, Jamie, I have to start with the fact that we're watching Chelsea next Monday night. Is Antonio Conte going to be in charge by then on the evidence of tonight?

0

65.658 - 84.261 Jamie Carragher

There's a good chance he could go before then. Not just because of how Chelsea are playing of late or tonight, because of Chelsea's history of a change of managers when the club fear they're not going to make Champions League. I think they've done it with Villas-Boas, Di Matteo, I think with Mourinho as well. I think that was maybe actually thinking they may even be worse than that with Jose.

0

84.561 - 102.063 Jamie Carragher

But Conte said before the game, I want the owner and the board to come out and back me. Well, that's never going to happen because Roman Abramovich hasn't come out and spoke about anything in 10, 15 years, whatever it is he's been at the club. So that's not going to happen and it's certainly not going to happen on the back of tonight.

102.343 - 122.891 Jamie Carragher

I think when you call it on with your owners and your board, as he has done over these last few weeks, months with the January transfer window, you've got to back it up. And unfortunately, they've been found wanton. And the players maybe have let him down. That's maybe his feeling. To lose the ball with 3-0 and then to go to Watford and lose 4-1 to Chelsea. I mean, it was a shambles, really.

123.031 - 142.1 Jamie Carragher

That first half, don't take anything away from this, Chelsea being with 10 men. 11 v 11, Watford were by far the best team and should have been a goal or two up. The amount of times they took the ball off Chelsea, how much more intensive, the intensity, aggressive they were. Second half, Chelsea had a little bit of possession, never looked like scoring. Piece of brilliance from Hazard.

142.12 - 156.82 Jamie Carragher

As soon as Watford stepped up, they just fell apart at the back. And that is nothing that you associate what we've seen tonight and against Bournemouth with Conte teams. So you have to look at it again. As we saw with Mourinho, is there now a discord actually between the players and the manager?

156.8 - 172.244 David Jones

Well, what would you say on that, Wayne? Because we've seen all the speculation about Conte's relationship with the hierarchy at Chelsea. He has injury problems as well, we shouldn't forget that. But what about that relationship between him and the team? Can you take anything in terms of evidence from that tonight?

Chapter 2: What impact did Chelsea's recent performance have on their manager's future?

204.163 - 207.11 Wayne Rooney

And that would be the most disappointing thing for the Chelsea manager.

0

207.43 - 213.705 David Jones

You said that wasn't Chelsea watching that. What are you talking about in terms of the details of the football that we've seen here?

0

214.057 - 226.989 Wayne Rooney

Chelsea over the years, they're a clever team. They manage the game really well. They're solid, they're hard to beat, they're hard to create chances against and you have to take your chances if you want to beat them. And tonight, Watford were getting through so easy. Just when they wanted, they were going through.

0

227.09 - 238.32 Wayne Rooney

When Chelsea in Hazard got the equaliser, Watford just went again and it was like, yeah, we'll just go and score when we want. And I don't think I've seen Chelsea for 10, 15 years play like that.

0

239.261 - 243.085 David Jones

Well, we can bring you some Chelsea reaction. Thibaut Courtois speaking now with Patrick Davison.

245.022 - 248.207 Patrick Davison

Thibaut, it's obviously a difficult night. Why do you think it turned out the way it did?

249.129 - 269.663 Thibaut Courtois

Well, I think our start was maybe not the best one. I think we lost too many balls, easy passes that went wrong. Then obviously I think the red card is very light. I think the first fall of Bacca should never be yellow. The second maybe, yeah, but I think it was a too light red card. And then obviously the penalty, I think it's a clear dive, you know.

270.065 - 277.694 Thibaut Courtois

I think yesterday as well we saw it with Liverpool as well, the goalkeeper that comes out like that. I knew I was late, that I wouldn't make it, so I tried to make myself small.

278.295 - 300.405 Thibaut Courtois

And if a striker just put his feet there and that's a penalty, then I think we're far away from home if every time this is a penalty, because I think he clearly leaves his foot and he dives, so I think there shouldn't be a penalty. I think then after our first half in general was not so good. The second half, we tried to fight with ten men. We got a bit more possession.

Chapter 3: How does Wayne Rooney reflect on his career at Manchester United?

618.196 - 650.013 Javi Gracia

Yeah, I think... We made a very good high press and during all the match, not only after sending off, I think we have many chances in the first half where we played, when we played better. In the second half, in the first minutes, we had more difficulties and when the match was in a worse moment, we scored the second goal and it was incredible. It's an unforgettable night.

0

650.754 - 665.849 Javi Gracia

Did you think the penalty and the red card were correct decisions? From my situation, I didn't see it clear, but I think penalty is a penalty. And the yellow cards, I don't say.

0

666.55 - 670.295 Patrick Davison

What were you thinking when it went 1-1? Could you see that crazy finish happening?

0

673.04 - 711.518 Javi Gracia

I don't know. I think the team worked very hard during all 90 minutes. The goalkeeper, the Chelsea goalkeeper, I think make a great job too and create many chances, many play, defending well when we need it. Okay, he's very happy today. Can this be a big change in Watford's season tonight? I hope so, but it's only three points and we try to get the next three points in the next game. Well done.

0

711.538 - 711.838

Thank you.

712.578 - 717.827 David Jones

Well done indeed. Did they look like a really well-drilled unit tonight?

718.087 - 732.733 Jamie Carragher

They were outstanding. Yes, it may be a Chelsea story tonight because of the manager, but it looked a well-coached team. And let's not forget, at 11 v 11, before the send-off, Watford were by far the best team and should have been at least one goal up. And this is the goal.

733.734 - 735.256 David Jones

This is after Hazard had got them level.

735.296 - 748.437 Jamie Carragher

Yeah, gets them level. Every goal is the same. Chelsea in possession, depressing. Oh, this is a poor touch, actually. But, see, someone goes tight with Hazard, forces him to flick the ball, and then you can just only admire this quality, Wayne.

Chapter 4: How did Wayne Rooney transition from Everton to Manchester United?

749.338 - 766.584 Wayne Rooney

He's come inside. I think Fabregas could maybe get back in a bit quicker, Hazard as well, but it's a great one too, Gary Cahill has no chance, goalkeeper, and the finish, he takes the finish quick, the keeper's on his way out, and he finishes quick with his left foot, which the keeper's not balanced, and he has no chance, but it's a fantastic goal.

0

766.604 - 781.357 Jamie Carragher

Every Chelsea player is short, not just quite there, look, and that probably just summed Chelsea's performance up, Azpilicueta, Cahill, goal past him. Kale, Luis complaining to each other. They weren't right, them two at centre-back or in the back three in the first half. I know they've been out for a long time. You could see that in the play.

0

781.558 - 787.978 David Jones

The question then was, could they see the game out? We were talking about the prospect of game management, Wayne, but they sense blood here.

0

788.195 - 800.666 Wayne Rooney

Yeah, they did, and I think fair play to Watford. They were fantastic again, winning the ball back. There's four, five players around the ball. They win the ball back, then they go and break. It's a good ball to Delefeu and he carries the ball.

0

801.346 - 803.988 David Jones

What's this about? What's the pointing about? I don't know what he's pointing to.

804.088 - 805.73 Jamie Carragher

He's telling Courtois how he's going to point.

805.75 - 822.147 Wayne Rooney

But no-one did. Caelan, David Luiz, they keep backing off, backing off. You can't let Delefeu back off and let him in the box. Are they frightened of his pace, do you think? Maybe, but someone has to engage him. Or maybe frightened of their own lack of... Yeah, someone's got to engage him and not let him in the box, and as soon as he's in the box, you've got a problem.

822.568 - 825.332 Wayne Rooney

It's a deflection, but a well-deserved goal.

825.592 - 837.231 Jamie Carragher

He was a real handful all night, wasn't he, Delefeo? He was. We questioned before the game where he would play, would he play off the front? I thought he would play wide, but him and Rickarlison, it wasn't just what they did going forward, it was how organised this team was, really.

Chapter 5: What challenges did Rooney face while playing for England?

1089.143 - 1100.202 Antonio Conte

I'm saying, can you tell us what you got wrong or not? Maybe the start of XI was wrong. because our start was very poor and it was very difficult to change something tonight.

0

1100.742 - 1107.632 Patrick Davison

What did you make of the decisions that went against you? Obviously, you had a player sent off, Bakayoko, and the first goal was a penalty. What did you make of those?

0

1111.718 - 1128.056 Antonio Conte

Yeah, for sure, two bad situations for us and then it was very difficult to come back. Then also in the second half we tried to do this, but always with a lot of confusion.

0

1129.017 - 1137.287 Patrick Davison

Are your team tired at the moment? Are they short of energy? You didn't have Alonso, you didn't have Barkley, and just maybe a lack of energy around the pitch?

0

1137.867 - 1144.935 Antonio Conte

You are talking about Barkley. Barkley is not playing for six months. If Barkley is tired, we are in trouble.

1145.945 - 1151.956 Patrick Davison

OK, but I didn't just say about Barclay, did I? The rest of the team as well? Is that an issue, the energy of the team?

Chapter 6: What insights does Rooney provide about his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson?

1152.297 - 1185.182 Antonio Conte

I don't know. I repeat the energy. I think the players run until the end, but in a bad way tonight. We must play with organisation, with a plan, but tonight was a difficult game. Above all, after the record, because then you need to change the plane and then we changed our plan.

0

1186.242 - 1195.295 Patrick Davison

When you're the manager of a team like Chelsea and you lose 3-0 to Bournemouth and then have a night like tonight, do you start to worry about your future, especially when there's been speculation already?

0

1195.435 - 1209.094 Antonio Conte

No, no, this is not my problem, I repeat. I try to do my job and try to put everything in my job. If this is enough, it's OK, otherwise they can take their decision. Thank you.

0

1210.795 - 1225.031 David Jones

Fractious, as you would expect after a night like tonight. He says again there, Jamie, I tried to warn everyone. Is he talking, do you think, internally? He tried to warn the board that he needed more help in January, needed more recruitment.

0

1225.291 - 1238.305 Jamie Carragher

Not January, August. It feels like Conte's been under pressure since that game against Burnley, the first game of the season. I'm not sure if it was the second or third game they went to Tottenham at Wembley. It felt like he had to win.

1238.285 - 1255.753 Jamie Carragher

That game or certainly not lose it or he was going to go early in the season now He's definitely a manager who is not shine letting his feelings No, no one I would say if he's not happy and I also a lot of time when I hear managers speak like that in the press and

1257.708 - 1270.806 Jamie Carragher

I feel there's a little bit of an excuse in there, a little bit, because I don't think any manager ever really gets what they want, especially now. I think the days are gone for the manager of giving someone a list of players and saying, go out and buy them players, and they get everyone they want. They don't.

1271.047 - 1284.592 Jamie Carragher

Clubs are doing differently now, and there are directors of football, and managers are more coaches now. But this is not just Chelsea's situation. It's almost... Every club across the board, maybe it's changing at Arsenal, maybe Ferguson's the last of his type.

1284.912 - 1305.797 Jamie Carragher

And I'm not saying a player comes in, the manager knows nothing about it, but it may not be all about exactly who he wants, and you have to accept that. And Conte is not used to losing. If you go back through his record, I think he won the league the last three years at Juventus, successful with Italy, comes to Chelsea, wins. He's not used to not winning games, so that's why he acts like that.

Chapter 7: What does Wayne Rooney envision for his future in football?

1372.441 - 1387.362 Wayne Rooney

That should be behind the scenes. It seems like Conte's putting a lot of stuff out, whether that's for a way out, whether that's because he's not getting what he wants, you don't know, but there seems to be big problems. I think the two games they've lost...

0

1387.342 - 1394.414 Wayne Rooney

I don't think Roma Bramford should just react from them two games, but as Jamie said, the problem seems to be a lot longer than these two games.

0

1394.855 - 1406.175 David Jones

He's sort of almost insinuating that his hands are tied behind his back, but when you look at the 11 that played tonight for Chelsea, plus the bench in which there was Giroud, there was Emerson, their new £25m signing, should they have had enough tonight?

0

1406.836 - 1411.324 Wayne Rooney

Oh, without doubt. I was expecting Chelsea to go and win that game quite comfortably.

0

1411.304 - 1440.872 Wayne Rooney

to be honest and if Chelsea played the way they can play at the best and they're all working for each other I'm sure they would have done that but they weren't and when you drop off in this Premier League you're going to get punished and Chelsea just they lacked energy they lacked aggression it looked like no one was speaking to each other and that's when you know as a manager you've got problems when them cracks start coming you've got problems and he needs to identify them and sort them out just looking over your shoulder Jamie at the results in 2018

1440.852 - 1446.868 David Jones

Does that show us that these cracks have been coming? This is a developing story for Chelsea. It's not just now.

1448.192 - 1468.798 Jamie Carragher

Well, maybe it has something to do with the January transfer window, the build-up to that, the complaints beforehand. And yet you look at those results and that is just not Chelsea, and certainly Chelsea of last season. And I take Wayne's point of the reaction of Chelsea, how we view Chelsea as a club. They were always, when they're at their best, a difficult team to beat.

1469.199 - 1483.178 Jamie Carragher

They're not always a team, and this is not a criticism, who played Man City or Arsenal football. They had a way of playing that was very successful, very strong defensively, big, powerful team. They had that last season. But yes, we're talking about the board, we're talking about the manager, Conte.

1483.883 - 1505.487 Jamie Carragher

Why did Chelsea, after winning a league title, except for the time when Mourinho was there the first time, I think they won it 05 and 06, they have this second season where it seems to fall apart and the manager goes. It doesn't seem to happen anywhere else. Is that something to do with the dressing room or is that something to do with the board actually changing managers so quickly?
