Chapter 1: What were the key moments in the West Ham vs. Manchester United match?

6.562 - 21.642 Unknown

Scholars draw between West Ham and Manchester United at the London Stadium this evening, despite a bit of an altercation on the pitch. Mark Noble and Paul Pogba all smiles at the final whistle. And it is a point that confirms second place for Manchester United. Scott McTominay and Chris Smalling are with Patrick Davison.

0

23.745 - 29.312 Patrick Davison

Guys, well played. Chris, it's a point that means you'll definitely finish this season second. So in that respect, tonight, is it job done?

0

29.427 - 38.678 Chris Smalling

Yeah, I think it is. I think going into the game we knew that the second spot was ours for the taking and we could have took it last week but we didn't and tonight was the opportunity with a game to spare.

0

39.198 - 46.127 Patrick Davison

Scott, what sort of game was it to play in? Because for a lot of it, it had kind of an end of season feel. And then in the last five minutes, it sort of kicked off a bit, didn't it?

0

46.688 - 52.655 Scott McTominay

Yeah, obviously, that's football. You're going to get a little bust up towards the end of the game because everybody is so eager to win. And it was a big point for us tonight.

Chapter 2: How did Manchester United secure their second-place finish?

52.675 - 66.093 Scott McTominay

We finished second. And that was our objective when obviously we realised that we couldn't win the championship. So it was a positive night for us. But obviously, unfortunately, we didn't get the three points. Did you take one on the ankle or the shin first half as well? Yeah, I think so. I can't really remember it, to be fair.

0

66.113 - 72.182 Scott McTominay

It was quite a while ago, but obviously you just have to get on with them things and keep playing and doing your best for the team. Chris, how did you find that three at the back?

0

72.803 - 85.201 Chris Smalling

Yeah, I think we've played it a few times this year, a bit earlier in the season. We've not played it for a little while, but I think it shows that we can play both formations because you never know what the opposition is going to come up against. And if we've got the option to play a few formations, then it's up our sleeve.

0

85.662 - 96.629 Chris Smalling

And did part of you think, I'll show the England manager what I can do in that position? Yeah, I think I've played there with England as well, so I'm comfortable with three or four. Scott, did you feel like it was an opportunity taken tonight?

0

Chapter 3: What was Scott McTominay's perspective on the game?

98.511 - 112.827 Scott McTominay

Obviously for me personally, I feel like it was a positive night because we did finish second in the league, but obviously there was a few boys like me, Luke Shaw, getting the opportunity to play and you just want your chance to impress everybody, including the manager and the staff. So I feel like a few of the boys did that tonight and it was positive all round.

0

112.807 - 122.86 Scott McTominay

How desperate are you to play in a cup final? Obviously, that's everybody's dream, to play in a cup final, but obviously you just have to keep training hard, keep doing well, and hopefully if the chance comes, then you've got to take it.

0

123.181 - 128.167 Patrick Davison

Chris, whether you call this a good season, a bad season, maybe somewhere in the middle, does that depend on winning that cup final?

0

129.789 - 145.709 Chris Smalling

I think, yeah, if you do finish the season, it makes it a very good season, but obviously we finished second, we would like to have obviously won it, but there's progress with our league position, and if we can win that title, that cup final, then we can leave with a good feeling. Well done tonight. Thank you.

0

145.729 - 153.516 Unknown

Well done, mate. Well, Teddy, would you go along with what Chris Smalling said, that if Manchester United win the FA Cup and they finish second in the Premier League, that's a good season?

155.558 - 172.733 Teddy Sheringham

Progress, again. If that is the case, silverware again under Jose Mourinho. That's what they brought him in for. He knows how to win trophies and they're on the verge of it. So I don't think anyone can be that impressed with the way they've gone about it, especially again tonight.

Chapter 4: What does finishing second mean for Manchester United this season?

174.012 - 190.654 Teddy Sheringham

not the most productive, but it's the point that they wanted. It's not really what you expect from Man United going forward and forcing the issue, but I suppose you put that down to a little bit with West Ham. They didn't really force the issue either, so it was a bit of an end of season stalemate for me, really.

0

190.938 - 208.626 Unknown

As Teddy said, is progress the key word here, Jamie, for Manchester United, given how they've performed since they last won the title? Sir Alex Ferguson's last season in charge of them, 7th, 4th, 5th, 6th. They finish in second place. They've got 78 points, which is more points than they've had since that title-winning side. And they're in an FA Cup final.

0

208.606 - 225.846 Jamie Redknapp

You'd say in terms of finishing second this season, FA Cup final, great. But if you look at the money they've spent, £9,860 the last two years, and you watch how they play, and United have been blessed. The fans have been so lucky over the years to watch the great sides that Teddy's played and all the United teams that I've played against. It's hard to watch at the moment, United.

0

226.227 - 235.662 Jamie Redknapp

There's not a lot of joy in their play. I think he's searching for something when he looks at the teams and what their best system is, how they play. The big-name players have not really worked for Jose.

0

Chapter 5: How did David Moyes feel about West Ham's performance this season?

235.682 - 254.43 Jamie Redknapp

Whether they could work for another manager, I don't know. But for Jose, they haven't. He's questioned the mentality of his team very often this year. I think they're a long, long way away from competing with Man City, if I'm honest. It almost feels like when Jose went to Real Madrid and he had to compete with Barcelona, but he found a different way of interrupting what they did.

0

254.47 - 269.511 Jamie Redknapp

And he feels like he's going to have to do that again here. And I don't know what personnel and how much that's going to cost to do it. But at the moment, when I look at United, I don't enjoy watching them. I don't think there's much fluidity about how they play, not a lot of enjoyment. It's difficult to watch, Ted, isn't it?

0

269.491 - 293.136 Teddy Sheringham

Well, when you talk about the FA Cup final coming up a couple of weeks' time, you know, Manchester United, Chelsea, you expect a humdinger of a game. But you know that Jose is going to try and win the game in a strategic kind of manner, you know, not in the way that Sir Alex would have gone, go out and show them what you can do, take it to them.

0

293.285 - 301.737 Teddy Sheringham

put them under pressure, you know, and they'll crack with our intense football. It's not like that with Jose. It's very, very strategic.

0

Chapter 6: What strategies did Moyes implement to improve West Ham's play?

303.219 - 309.388 Teddy Sheringham

And it's hard, you know. You're breaking teams down in a way that's not pleasing on the eye.

0

309.468 - 313.794 Jamie Redknapp

When you look at their team and their squad, what do you think they need to get to that next level, to challenge City?

0

313.934 - 336.754 Teddy Sheringham

I don't know. We've talked about what he's asking of certain players. I think... You can just imagine him in the changing room saying to Sanchez, watch what the left back does. Stop him from getting forward. And on the other side, Rashford, stop the right back from getting forward. And it's like, hold on a minute. Let them worry about us. We're fantastic players.

0

336.774 - 346.425 Teddy Sheringham

Alex Ferguson's team talk would have been better. I'd never... If Lee Dixon was pushing Giggs back, he'd be saying, son, get up the pitch and push him back and make sure that he stays up the end.

0

Chapter 7: What are the expectations for West Ham moving forward?

346.445 - 357.095 Teddy Sheringham

I don't want him getting forward. And that's the way you counteract that, by pushing him back the other way. And it just seems like it's all too intensely strategic for them.

0

357.115 - 366.424 Unknown

Well, Manchester United and Jose Mourinho are already planning for the future at Old Trafford, the future less clear at the London Stadium. Let's hear from David Moyes, who's with Patrick Davison.

0

367.771 - 369.535 Patrick Davison

David, overall, satisfied with that?

0

370.818 - 381.883 David Moyes

Very much so, yeah. If you get a point against Manchester United, any time is a good result. I think more importantly, the attitude of the players were terrific. We got safe at the weekend and I thought they went about their job really well tonight.

0

381.903 - 385.712 Patrick Davison

You made a positive change to try and affect it, bringing Andy Carroll on. Just tell us what your thinking was.

386.705 - 394.841 David Moyes

eh, just to try something else, give Andy a run. I'd have been quite happy to take the point if we could win it, great, but if we got a point, then it would have been a good result for us.

395.101 - 399.129 Patrick Davison

Was that the most pleasing thing, that there was no relaxation, no foot off the pedal from the players tonight?

Chapter 8: How do the guests assess the future of Manchester United under Mourinho?

399.39 - 404.68 David Moyes

I thought the players went about it really well. I thought their attitude, their commitment throughout the game was great.

0

404.66 - 423.472 David Moyes

and look they wanted to win tonight the players knew it was a big game we're trying to move up the league if we can and look I don't know if it moves us but it's one extra point There was one bit where it got maybe over committed out of nowhere really at the end Mark Noble and Paul Pogba what did you see of it? Well, you probably had a chance to look at the camera. I've not.

0

423.492 - 428.978 David Moyes

I've just seen it from the distance. But it was a skirmish and I didn't think it was in. It never looked like that sort of game at any time.

0

429.719 - 446.8 Patrick Davison

It just looked like red mist came from nowhere with Mark Noble. He puts his hands in Pogba's face. That's presumably something you'd advise against. Yeah. Overall, David, we haven't had much chance to talk to you about it. How proud are you of this achievement, keeping West Ham up?

0

446.864 - 463.436 David Moyes

It's a big achievement for us. It's been a tough job, but a really good job. Really enjoyed it. The players have worked hard to do it. When we came in, we needed to get them in order a little bit and play a bit better, and I think over the piece we've done that.

463.877 - 469.007 Patrick Davison

Looking forward to the summer, next season, what does West Ham need to build on what you've achieved here?

469.797 - 488.329 David Moyes

Well, I think that they're a big club. There's a big expectation from the supporters here. So I think that they're looking to build to improve every year. I don't think that they want to be a club which is flirting with relegation or going into the championship. So I think that has to be the aim for the football club. And how keen are you to be part of that?

488.349 - 493.257 David Moyes

Well, we'll have a chat next week and we'll see how things go. Cheers, thank you. See you later.

494.283 - 513.131 Unknown

And obviously they will be assessing how they feel West Ham have performed this season. Teddy, again, David Moyes has done what he was brought in to do, which is keep West Ham in the Premier League for another season. The longest run since between 1993 and 2003 when they spent 10 years. Now they're seventh here in the Premier League. Yep. So how's it gone?
