I will never forget calling up War Games star Matthew Broderick for that first episode to ask if he had ever heard of the NATO military exercise Able Archer 83. And now I ask, have you ever heard of it? If you're a new fan of Snafu and you've never listened to our beloved season one, then stick around for a tale of nuclear dread, traitorous spies, and a war game gone horribly wrong. It was the closest we ever actually came to a nuclear war since the Cuban Missile Crisis. And it's a story that really echoes in the present moment, especially with the rising international tensions around who has nuclear arms right now and who doesn't. We'll be sharing the second episode next week, along with all the episodes on YouTube for the first time ever.

That's Matthew Broderick. He's a national treasure and also the star of War Games, a movie about an almost accidental nuclear war that I watched.
maybe 100 times as a kid, came out in 1983, and it was Matthew's breakout role. The fact that I had gotten the lead of a, you know, studio movie was incredible. Yeah. Absolutely incredible. His character was a hacker, a tech genius. David Lightman was a master at computer games.
