Those strikes, two U.S. officials tell ABC, would have targeted Iranian energy infrastructure and would have been a major escalation in the war. Now, I'm using terms like would have a lot here because late Saturday night, we saw a major about face from President Trump. He called off those strikes, writing in a social media post that he's agreed to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a deal.
Let's bring in ABC's Alex Perchet, who's been tracking all this for us. So, Alex, is this it? Do we have a deal now?

Mike, honestly, your guess is as good as mine.
But look, I mean, we've been down this route before, right? President Trump said he canceled a planned attack on Iran after the perimeters of a deal emerged, including opening the street of Hormuz. But... Right now, Mike, I mean, there's still some really key questions out there. There's no immediate sign of a breakthrough with Tehran. And also, we know that Israel remains on high alert. But over the weekend, President Trump posted that U.S. forces were ready for a full scale attack on Iran. But he was going to hold off on that fire after the parameters of this deal emerged. with Tehran and other Middle Eastern countries that would include the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and also an end to Iran's nuclear threat.
We had an attack that would be the biggest attack since World War II, and it would have been disastrous for them. And they didn't want us to do it.
He said, based on this request, I have agreed for the future benefit of the world and likewise for the survival and success of a prosperous Iran to cancel this attack, subject to there being a deal that was rapidly made.
Now what we're doing is we're talking to them in the form of a negotiation. It begins tomorrow afternoon and we'll see if it's true. I'd love to do that, save a lot of lives, save a lot of lives.
Mike, we still don't know just how quickly this framework will turn into something really tangible here.
And as you mentioned there, Alex, we've been down this road before where it seems like both sides are kind of coming together and they might have sort of the outline of a deal, but they're actually pretty far apart on some of the fundamentals, as it turns out. So what are we actually hearing from the Iranians right now? What are the other players in this drama saying?
Well, so it's really interesting here because, you know, we're hearing from the defense minister, the acting defense minister in Iran, who's calling Trump's post a form of psychological operations and cognitive warfare. Late Sunday, we heard from the foreign minister who said that, listen, when it comes to opening the Strait of Hormuz with Oman, that coastal governments were obligated to ensure that ships safely pass through.
