Hello everyone and thank you for joining us for another episode of the Sunday service with Church and Vickers. It is the final Sunday before the big day and here is Churchy with a public service announcement. Whatever has happened in Adelaide, please remember, it is Christmas and a time for us all to be happy with family and friends. Although, if the test match is over and the ashes have gone, I will be protesting by eating as many Brussels sprouts as I can and watching reruns of the 2005 Ashes series to cheer myself up. Let's hope we don't get that far. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Sunday service with Church and Vickers. Newbury Cricket are proud sponsors of the Sunday Service podcast with Church and Vickers.
And to celebrate, you can get 15% off all Newbury products with the code SUNDAYSERVICE15. Head to newbury.co.uk and explore our brand new 2026 ranges, all available for Christmas delivery. Well, we are back, and the old fella is alongside me today. Another busy week, I would have thought, on the Polar Express at Spa Valley, Churchy. Another very busy week indeed, young Hector, on the express packed trains, jingle bells and flashing lights, cookie and hot chocolate deliveries, and somebody asking me if the train actually moves, and if it does, which direction does it go? Hector, it can only go one way. Otherwise, it would have ended up in the Sainsbury's car park. A modern day shout out to Poppy, who has had to sit and listen to me having a rant about the ashes and just sits there, nods and says yes.
And Tim for his magnificent Ghostbusters costume for his movie Quiz Night, which was a huge success. Well, we've got lots to get through this week and we can't preview Adelaide because hopefully it's still going on. But all I will say is I've got a good feeling about this week. We have another magnificent guest on who will no doubt be mentioning the Ashes. He is the editor of the cricketer magazine, Hugh Turberville. And Churchy has another cricketing sermon, which is all about the big fella. Certainly is. And we'll have our cricketing observations of the week and yours too, I hope. And of course, we will have our competition where you could win. Thanks to our friends at Newbury Cricket, a brand new Newbury cricket bat.
You can use next season or just twiddle it on your hands or just impress your family and friends over the Christmas. On your hands again. You wrote it down. Yes, I know. To see whether you would change it or not. You can't twiddle a bat on your hands, Hector. Every week. Every single week. Carry on. Well, and do not forget that you can get in touch with us with your cricketing observations, cricketing thoughts, or just anything you would want to get off your chest cricket-wise. Just email sundayservice.pod at yahoo.com or tweet us at sundayservice22. So lots to get through. Let's crack on with the Sunday Service. This is Cameron Steele, and you are listening to the Sunday Service with Church and Vickers.
Good morning. As I awoke, early this morning as always, I'm afraid I've reached that age where I seem to be racing back to the pavilion every couple of overs for a call of nature. It dawned on me this will be the final Sunday I can talk to you all before the big day. Now, I'm not talking about tomorrow, the 22nd of December, which is a big day because it's the birthday of Gary Pratt, who we all remember running out punter at Trent Bridge in 2005. No, I'm talking about the 25th, when turkeys will be stuffed, the odd cracker will have been pulled, and a combination of Brussels sprouts, chocolate and sherry will cause Grandma to wake herself up with a crescendo of flatulence that will signal it is time for the evening entertainment to begin.
It's grandma's equivalent to ringing the bell for the start of play. And I'm sure on one glorious Christmas day, if memory serves, my dear granny did a marvellous rendition of the Test Match special theme. But this will be the final time I speak to you all before the excitement of Christmas Eve, when the big fella, with his magnificent beard and bulging sack, will come down your chimney whilst you are soundly asleep and deliver presents under the tree.
