29 May 2026

Transcription

Chapter 1: What are the details surrounding the VAR audio release for Celtic's penalty against Motherwell?

0.537 - 10.783 Unknown

0141 951 1025 It's time to talk football It's Clyde One Super Scoreboard

0

17.783 - 36.726 Gabriel Antoniazzi

Yes, good evening and welcome to Clyde One's Super Scoreboard this Friday. Scotland manager Steve Clarke says it was an easy decision to sign his new four-year contract extension as he's inducted into Scotland's Hall of Fame. And as the national team prepare for their World Cup send-off against Curaçao at Hampden tomorrow.

0

37.147 - 52.609 Gabriel Antoniazzi

And of course, the highly, highly anticipated VAR review show has been released with head of referees Willie Collum going through all of the contentious decisions at the end of this season. I'm Gabriel Antoniazzi. Joining me in the studio this evening is Hugh Keevans.

0

52.89 - 70.926 Hugh Keevins

I have a feeling, Gabriel, that we will start with VAR, not Scotland and their farewell match as they prepare to go to Florida on Sunday for their pre-World Cup camp. I think the nation's attention has been taken up by the penalty that Celtic got against Motherwell at Fair Park.

0

Chapter 2: What is Steve Clarke's reaction to his four-year contract extension as Scotland manager?

71.187 - 79.026 Hugh Keevins

The penalty Hearts didn't get against Motherwell at Fair Park and its effect on the outcome of the title race.

0

79.006 - 119.492 Gabriel Antoniazzi

off we go you are a Scotland fan you want to call with the World Cup fast approaching and Clark's future clarified he's here until 2030 then give us a ring we had loads of calls yesterday as I said Clark says that the match tomorrow against Curacao is all about avoiding injuries and giving game time to players it's been a slow drip of his men walking into the camp this week

0

119.472 - 139.969 Gabriel Antoniazzi

Who would you like to see play? Any youngsters or untried, untested players? And what formation would it be? Is this a dry run of that opening game against Haiti on June the 14th? And what a day it promises to be at the National Stadium tomorrow with the team flying out to Florida on Sunday for the big one. As we mentioned earlier, Hugh, it is the VAR Review Show.

0

139.989 - 143.776 Gabriel Antoniazzi

Our very own Gordon Duncan with Willie Collum is airing now on Sky Sports.

0

Chapter 3: How does the upcoming friendly against Curacao serve as a preparation for the World Cup?

144.097 - 160.526 Gabriel Antoniazzi

Huge decisions towards the end of the season affecting all teams at the top in the title race. Celtics handball penalty against Motherwell. Hart's lack of a spot kick against the same team a few days earlier. Alistair Johnston's strong challenge against Mikey Moore of Rangers. Were these right or wrong decisions?

0

160.747 - 181.139 Gabriel Antoniazzi

We'll tell you shortly, but we all know how many calls we had on those incidents over the past few weeks. Will your opinion change now that we've heard from Willie Collum? Give us a ring. It should be a very busy night. And yes, you know the number. It's 0141 951 1025. Let's hear from you. Before we get into all that, I'm going to ask you a quick one on Steve Clarke.

0

181.179 - 186.608 Gabriel Antoniazzi

What's your thought on the contract situation, the Hall of Fame situation, and of course that game tomorrow?

0

186.728 - 210.286 Hugh Keevins

My thought is that if Stevie Clarke buys a lottery ticket tomorrow, he'll be a multi-millionaire by the close of day. You know, he's got the four-year extension, I assume on even bigger money than he was already on, and he's now a Hall of Famer. Can I just point out... We've had six matches in two European Championship finals and we haven't won any yet.

0

211.007 - 223.425 Hugh Keevins

So I wish him well in the US and all the players, but we can do with upping our performance level when we get to these major finals. Six games, no wins.

Chapter 4: What controversial VAR decisions affected the title race this season?

223.405 - 239.544 Hugh Keevins

Do you expect that to change in the summer? Well, if we don't beat Haiti, then we're in deep trouble. That's the first game, the most convenient start that we could have had. We have to win that match and then that will probably guarantee qualification for the latter stages.

0

240.185 - 250.257 Gabriel Antoniazzi

Do you see tomorrow the Curaçao game as a warm-up, almost a direct replica of what this Haiti game will look like in the opening game, which many people think is the most important one to win?

0

250.237 - 272.41 Hugh Keevins

Well, Dick Advocat is the Curacao manager and I remember him from his days at Ibrox. He and I had one or two spectacular fallouts. You seemed to have that with all the managers back in the day. Yeah, it must be something about me. He won't want to just walk in here and be defeated. You raised the point earlier about Stevie Clark trying to avoid injury.

0

273.051 - 277.277 Hugh Keevins

So it has the feel of a kind of training game for me.

0

277.758 - 294.376 Gabriel Antoniazzi

Mm-hmm. I think it might be that. We spoke to Steve Clarke earlier. He said there will be 10 or 11 changes throughout the game as well. So you'd expect to see lots of different players, perhaps even some youngsters that have been called up for the first time won't actually be going to the World Cup. But let's park that for one moment and go through these VAR decisions.

294.596 - 300.763 Gabriel Antoniazzi

I mean, we spent all season, all of last month talking about it, Hugh. It was so...

Chapter 5: Were the penalty decisions made during the Celtic vs. Motherwell match justified?

301.385 - 323.227 Gabriel Antoniazzi

so divisive and debated I'm going to quickly go through what we've heard this afternoon from Willie Collum on Sky Sports we hear the process from the VAR room and the referees on the pitch and here's what Willie had to say about it so Alexandra Kizaridis' collision with Tawanda Maswanise should have been a penalty for the Jambas. Colin thinks his ref's got that wrong.

0

323.448 - 343.918 Gabriel Antoniazzi

And even though the VAR room thought it was a penalty, referee Stephen McLean stuck with his decision. He wasn't sure which foot was planted first. In the same game, there was no penalty for Hearts for a potential handball by Emmanuel Longhello. He thought that was the right decision, that it didn't go below the t-shirt line. Alistair Johnston's high challenge on Mikey Moore.

0

343.998 - 361.783 Gabriel Antoniazzi

Celtic against Rangers, the third last game of the season. It was a booking. We had many calls from Rangers fans thinking that was a straight red and it would have altered the game and perhaps the title race. But Colm says he felt it was the right decision. And perhaps biggest of all, Celtic's penalty in the 98th minute against Motherwell.

0

361.763 - 384.565 Gabriel Antoniazzi

end-to-end game Ian Acho scored from the spot kick it was a handball on Sam Nicholson Colin believes it was the right decision now Hugh the KMI 2-1 didn't think that was the right decision but what's your take on it all starting with that one that's the most important one of all because it affects everything relative to the final day of the season when Hearts go to Celtic Park

0

384.545 - 411.398 Hugh Keevins

If the match ends in a draw at Firpark, then Celtic need to win 3-0 at their own ground to prevent Hearts from winning the title. So it was a massive decision. And Willie Colham says it was the correct decision. Ian Maxwell, the SFA chief executive, spoke yesterday to yourself about the effect that this is having on referees. Now, his remarks were chilling, I thought.

412.019 - 415.948 Hugh Keevins

John Beaton and his family were offered hotel accommodation.

Chapter 6: What are fans' opinions on the VAR decisions and the audio release?

416.109 - 441.366 Hugh Keevins

The SFA would take them out of their own home. put them in hotel accommodation or Airbnb in case of trouble. Now, that's shameful. Absolutely shameful. Scottish football has developed a personality disorder. We can't handle failure. And now we can't even handle success. We've had pitch invasions involving both of those emotions this season. People have got to calm down.

0

442.527 - 462.638 Hugh Keevins

If you disagree with the penalty decision, be very welcome. But football has rules and regulations and VAR has declared that it was a penalty. You just have to get on with it. If you don't like it, it's too bad, basically. Rules and regulations and VAR agrees it was a penalty kick.

0

463.259 - 469.108 Gabriel Antoniazzi

Okay, first caller tonight, we've got Brian in still. Brian, what's your take on the release of the audio this evening?

0

469.831 - 496.254 Brian

Well, I mean, it kind of proves a lot of things that what I saw with my eyes. Now, first and foremost, I want to say this as a 58-year-old man, I have never been on a pitch, ever. And that's not me being blase and saying, oh, I didn't do it. What I'm saying is the guys that were older than me when I was a kid said, there's only three people really in truth that are allowed on that place of work.

0

Chapter 7: How do the panelists evaluate Scotland's performance in major tournaments under Steve Clarke?

496.274 - 523.123 Brian

Football players, referees, officials and groundsmen. So, on that point, the wrong thing that happened was the overspill, but that's happened a thousand times. That is wrong on a personal level as a Celtic supporter, and I know that a lot of your friends in Boston know that, I'll agree with that. Some of the younger ones may not agree with it. What didn't happen, though, was repeated.

0

523.584 - 550.128 Brian

What didn't happen was an attack, and it was repeated by Mr Bloom, it was repeated by numerous people who should know better than to go off with themselves and no evidence produced. So the police saying there was nobody attacked, the audio saying the game was over because Derek McInnes knew it was over. Then a whole different raft of stories comes out and what happens is the wind catches it.

0

550.669 - 557.517 Brian

Now, I'll get on to the penalty and all that carry on. If we can just deal with this first, what is right and what is wrong?

0

558.003 - 586.98 Brian

because Celtic fans are being slaughtered for entering the field of play in celebration, enjoying celebration again, and they should be on the side of the terracing, should be on their seats, because the guys who pulled off a minor miracle in football, and that's what's not getting spoke about, they win every single game to get to the end of the league, you give them 0%, and we disagreed all season, fine,

0

587.855 - 606.842 Brian

You know, at the end of the day, this was a soccer miracle. Roy the Rovers wouldn't touch it, it was that much. Because Hearts had it won. Everybody had Hearts winning it. And then at one point Rangers had it won. And we weren't going to get anywhere near it. So the exuberance and the joyous exuberance that jumped out of the stadium was...

606.822 - 623.042 Brian

just that boys maybe some men I don't know jumping on the park because they thought I'm going to get into this you know what they weren't doing was fighting what they weren't doing maybe antagonising you know but they weren't going up and punching and attacking players

Chapter 8: What are the implications of the VAR audio release for Scottish football moving forward?

623.326 - 630.939 Brian

So I need that to be a, you know, like we've had all the evidence. The evidence is there for everybody to see, everybody to hear.

0

630.959 - 655.411 Hugh Keevins

It's an expression that you use there, Brian. First of all, let me say that you're correct with regard to Tony Bloom. Tony Bloom has made certain accusations which he is obliged to substantiate. He spoke of players being assaulted. Well, who were they? Name them. He spoke of trouble before, during and after the game at Celtic Park. What was the trouble before the game?

0

655.931 - 673.347 Hugh Keevins

Again, could you expand on that and clarify matters? But you used an expression there, Brian, maybe antagonising. Well, you have no right to be on the pitch antagonising. The Celtic are responsible for the security.

0

673.327 - 700.82 Hugh Keevins

of their own players and the visiting players and I thought it was a shame that the fans came on because Martin O'Neill spoke of Celtic Park I hope I've got him correct in what he said he said the most beautiful place on earth well you know they shouldn't have been on the most beautiful place on earth they they They took away from the joy of the occasion by coming on and maybe antagonising.

0

702.282 - 722.991 Hugh Keevins

I wish it hadn't happened for Martin O'Neill's sake, because he deserved better, the players deserved better for pulling off the miracle that you speak of, Brian. So, yep, on one hand, you're right, Tony Bloom has to substantiate what you said, but... There are no circumstances for me where people should be maybe antagonising opposition players.

723.231 - 739.093 Gabriel Antoniazzi

Yeah, the latest from the police is that they received no assault complaints from Hearts after that Celtic match. But they did speak to Ian Maxwell yesterday about that and he said that the SFA would support if the police wanted to make it a criminal offence to become onto the pitch. They have that in England and Wales at the moment, but not up here.

739.113 - 763.403 Hugh Keevins

And I think, Gabriel, that's the only deterrent that we have now. Because you can't have this becoming a habit anymore. It's a dreadful stain on the game when you think back to the collision at Ibrox after the Scottish Cup tie there with flares being thrown into the crowd to the obvious endangerment of people's safety.

764.745 - 771.593 Hugh Keevins

So I'm very much afraid that we have to make a criminal offence from now on to make sure this doesn't become a trend anymore.

771.691 - 776.982 Gabriel Antoniazzi

Yep, thank you, Brian, and Sterling for your call. We've got Nadeem in Livingston on the line. Nadeem, are you with us?
