Why? It's a 30-minute television pilot.

Why does the moon look so big and other times look so small? Why is it up there at all? And how come the sun gets so hot and other times it is not like nighttime winter and fall? anything anything anything except that i like Why do those weird colored lights Way up around the North Pole Dance through the night sky sometimes?

0

153.959 - 227.223 Liam Richardson

And does that magical swirl Somehow explain how a girl Can shimmer, sparkle, and shine? I don't know I don't know Anything except that I like you. Can the love feel so big and make you feel oh so small? Why do I bother at all?

0

227.243 - 234.055 Ty Burrell

A beat while Franny waits for PV's reaction. PV smiles. Then Franny smiles.

0

234.696 - 237.06 Samantha Morelos

Then... That was depressing.

237.293 - 242.887 Ty Burrell

Peavy and Franny look to the doorway. Standing there is Joanna, 18, one of Peavy's infinite sisters.

Chapter 3: What happens when Franny writes a love song?

243.188 - 251.368 Samantha Morelos

Get out of my room, Joanna! Fine. But, uh, Franny, you should consider a diminished three chord instead of the minor four. It's less trite.

0

251.87 - 255.517 Liam Richardson

Joanna leaves. Who was that? And how did she know my name?

0

256.198 - 258.903 Kensington Tallman

That's Joanna. She's one of my sisters.

0

259.223 - 260.105 Liam Richardson

She doesn't look like you.

0

260.546 - 266.556 Kensington Tallman

And she has awful taste in music. Maybe she's adopted. Or I am. Now, let's take a look at this.

266.817 - 268.8 Ty Burrell

PV takes out a photograph. What is it?

269.321 - 273.648 Kensington Tallman

The Overton Orchestra. We need to figure out who wrote my hate note. Oh, okay.

274.41 - 277.375 Ty Burrell

In set, a picture of the Overton Orchestra.

277.658 - 281.324 Kensington Tallman

The handwriting definitely belongs to a boy, so we can eliminate all the girls.

Chapter 4: How do alliances shift within the band?

336.207 - 338.49 Liam Richardson

No. I assume most people hate me.

0

339.091 - 339.972 Kensington Tallman

They probably do.

0

340.513 - 344.058 Ty Burrell

Somehow, at some point, Joanna has reentered the room.

0

344.699 - 347.243 Samantha Morelos

Get out of here, Joanna. Remember, Franny.

0

348.304 - 350.427

Diminish three.

350.447 - 351.168 Samantha Morelos

Court.

353.452 - 358.459 Ty Burrell

She holds up three fingers and uses them to make one of those I'm watching you gestures, then leaves.

359.333 - 362.257 Kensington Tallman

Sorry. Though she's probably right about the cord.

362.958 - 372.513 Ty Burrell

Interior Overton High hallway. Just outside the music room, the members of the orchestra have begun to file in for practice. PV and Franny wait outside until they spot Max.

Chapter 5: What role does competition play in their journey?

434.974 - 442.665 Ty Burrell

Franny unfolds it. In set, the note is written in a small and serious hand. Peevee, I think you are extremely beautiful.

0

443.05 - 445.015 Liam Richardson

This isn't a hate note. It's a love note.

0

445.998 - 451.231 Kensington Tallman

I guess I read it more ironically, you know? Like, I think you're extremely beautiful.

0

451.291 - 452.795 Liam Richardson

Why would you read it that way?

0

452.815 - 456.285 Kensington Tallman

Anyway, mystery solved. Thanks for your help, Franny.

456.505 - 471.529 Ty Burrell

Franny looks on helplessly. Interior Franny's house, evening. Franny sits on the couch, staring at the TV, which isn't on. His mother enters. Marion Blevins is a loving but strident woman who believes the world can be shaped by those with the fortitude to bother trying.

472.431 - 480.405 Eileen Fogarty

I love this show. Hey, Mom. Something's wrong. What's wrong? I like a girl. That's the problem? Yes.

481.567 - 482.068 Liam Richardson

No.

482.167 - 483.689 Ty Burrell

Marion sits down on the couch.

Chapter 6: How does Franny deal with jealousy and rivalry?

580.564 - 583.028 Liam Richardson

AJ, you're a genius. I know.

0

583.649 - 584.891 Ty Burrell

AJ hits Franny with a ball.

0

586.193 - 589.798 Liam Richardson

Ow! We're on the same team. And...

0

591.095 - 600.206 Ty Burrell

Interior, Overton High Lunchroom later, PV is at the front of the lunch line paying for lunch, a Butterfinger, two packages of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and a Red Bull.

0

600.686 - 606.233 Unknown

New state law says I have to tell you to eat a salad. Okay. Eat a salad.

611.799 - 615.704 Fred Armisen

Thank you. That's my ringtone. Eat a salad.

615.724 - 617.906 Ty Burrell

PV leaves the line and runs into Franny.

618.287 - 618.808 Liam Richardson

Oh, hey.

619.248 - 620.95 Ty Burrell

Franny notices PV's lunch.

Chapter 7: What is the significance of the Gentle Mediation of the Bands?

767.114 - 777.442 Kensington Tallman

We shouldn't be entering competitions or doing interviews. Why not? Just talk to Ruzo, okay? We need to get our lineup in place before we start thinking about winning prizes.

0

778.643 - 778.984 Liam Richardson

Okay.

0

780.905 - 784.949 Ty Burrell

PV walks off. Franny looks over at a trash can and sees a kid hidden inside.

0

784.989 - 796.34 Liam Richardson

I'm playing hide-and-seek. I've been in here since yesterday. Nobody's found me. Impressive. Yeah. It isn't as satisfying as I'd expected.

0

797.401 - 813.3 Ty Burrell

They both consider this... Interior, Overton High practice room, afternoon. A very small practice room with soundproof walls and a grand piano. Ruzzo, who is very serious, sits with his eyes closed listening to a Mastering the Triangle tape. Franny enters.

813.78 - 826.037 O’Neill Monahan

You must treat the triangle like a lover. Be gentle but firm. Be caring but independent. Never let her sense your fear. Um, hello?

826.077 - 828.58 Ty Burrell

Ruzzo switches off the tape deck.

828.796 - 844.982 Liam Richardson

Franny! How are you, my friend? Sorry to interrupt. I just wanted to let you know you have been, uh, invited to join my band. Our band. Me and Peavy. Peavy wants me to join her band? Yes. We both do. Our band. So, rehearsals are on Thursdays. I'll text you the address.

845.602 - 847.365 Ty Burrell

Ruzzo suddenly hugs Franny.

Chapter 8: How do Franny and PV redefine success?

996.044 - 1003.4 Ty Burrell

Liu raises the massive trophy overhead. Peavey and Franny watch from the audience. They each hold a very small participation trophy.

0

1003.881 - 1006.808 Kensington Tallman

On the other hand, early success can have its own drawbacks.

0

1007.008 - 1011.418 Ty Burrell

The weight of the trophy causes Liu to fall over backward. Students rush to help her.

0

1012.06 - 1013.864 Liam Richardson

Yeah, I think that's very true.

0

1014.766 - 1015.808 Kensington Tallman

You want to go write a song?

1016.345 - 1038.167 Ty Burrell

I do. They walk out of the auditorium. On the way, they throw their participation trophies in the trash. We stay on the trophies for a beat. Then a large, fuzzy mitt reaches into the trash and pulls one of the trophies back out. Pulling back, we see it's the bulldog mascot. He scans the plaque on the front of the trophy. It reads, Congratulations, Peavy and Franny.

1038.868 - 1059.514 Ty Burrell

It is better to have participated and lost than never to have participated at all. The bulldog looks up, watching as Peavy and Franny leave the auditorium together. Who's in there anyway? What's he thinking? We don't know, and maybe we never will know, because that's the end of this unproduced television pilot. The end.
