Yes, hello and welcome to Talk the Devils. It's our second livestream on YouTube. Of course, this is the Manchester United podcast from the Athletic. We're going to be looking at the Champions League draw, which is already underway in Monaco. We've got Carl, we've got Andy, we've got Laurie. We'll be talking about Joshua Xerxes' future, previewing the game against Ipswich Town, a really important game for United, of course, now in the Premier League at the weekend. It's been a while.
It has been a while. I've got more devices open than David Ornstein on deadline day. There is all sorts of things looking at me. Uh but the ceremony is underway in Monaco. Um the draw's due to start in about ten minutes time, something like that. Obviously, as the teams are drawn, we'll let you know who Manchester United have got. We've got loads of questions to get in already. Uh quite a few people. James uh oh sixteen included, asking about Joshua Zerxy. You've been writing about that today, so before we talk about the drawing we might get, what's the latest on Zergzi?
Yes, so this is moving on this week. Um it felt that this was building towards a potential exit for Xerxes. Um Yeah, low move, it seems like is going to be the most likely outcome. Um, and there'd been a lot of interest from Italian clubs, Juventus and Como, actually, who obviously in this Champions League draw um had been expressing some interest. But more more recently, in the last day or so, Fiorentina have come to the party and have uh are beginning to make uh offers, uh sort of having talks over what it might look like in terms of a loan for Xerxi. I'm told at the moment uh that an option rather than obligation to buy is the uh perhaps more likely scenario which I know will be Uh you know. not great music to the ears of United fans um who are already kind of wondering about United sales.
Um but yeah I don't know if this is definitely going to go through if you and Tina. They are feeling like it it could happen. Um certainly people are telling me that it's got a chance. Um but there's other clubs that are interested. I I believe Napoli might also be interested in making a move who obviously are in the Champions League draw as well. I know that they've been looking at strikers. Um but the the thing with um Fiorentina is that you've got Moist Keane going to Como. Uh that look looks like that's going to go through. So they need a striker. So Fiorentina are there. Yeah, I think that Napoli might be there as well. Um, let's see how it develops. But I would expect now that the things are moving on Xerxy now, so I would expect this to to become uh, you know, a a confirmed exit as we get towards deadline.
Okay. Um again, lots of questions coming in about what happens next, Andy. So Elliot Rigby amongst them. Um will there be a replacement for him before deadline day? What do you think?
I've said on this pod a a number of times that Manchester United's transfer activity will be dependent on sales. And if um Josh Shirkse leaves, as I've consistently said, um I won't I won't put it as strong as up for sale, but I think it's been clear throughout twenty twenty six that he he doesn't have a future at Manchester United for the reasons that we've explained, someone who trains well, very popular in the dressing room, but just hasn't performed To the levels expected on the pitch. I said a month ago we had several suitors in Italy. And now is the time when they're getting flushed out because the transfer window is coming to an end. I think Manchester United have got to do what's best for the club.
And then will we see m new players come in? I think it's increasingly. I think there's a possibility. Okay. But I cannot say for um and and and also I don't know whether they'd be signed or loaned.
