Hello and welcome to the Talking City podcast. I'm Jack Flintum and I'm joined this afternoon by Alex James. Alex, how are we?
Um not too bad, thank you, Jack. Not too bad. Feels like we've uh feels like Simon Bukowski's been on holiday for three to six months, even though it has any, but someone has assured me it is only a fortnight and he is back next week. Um But yeah, uh we're all good. Thank you.
Yes, yes, it i it does feel like he's been he's been gone ages and he has missed one of the biggest days of the of the closed season as well in the fixture release day, which has been confirmed today, all of the Premier League fixtures bar two um a subject's change though so that's all that's all fun and games but at least we know the sort of order that City will be playing in. And I guess best place to start is at the beginning with what's the first five games and I've got them jotted down here. It's so it's Bournemouth at home, Palace away. Coventry at home, the big one against Man United away, and then I believe it is Sunderland at home. What what do you make of that sort of start for for City?
Uh, I have to say it's not the biggest day in my football summer calendar, must be said, but um but there is always a bit of um a bit of fanfare and it is g it's it is good to pinpoint those, you know, like the derby and the games against Arsenal, uh Liverpool and sort of plot it out a little bit in terms of know when you might need a bit of time off work or whatever. So Um, although having said that, all of 'em change at five weeks notice. So um we're in the same boat as every City supporter in that sense of not knowing whether we're coming or going until a month or so before. But to get to the question you actually asked me, um I mean I think Sissy will probably take that start. I d I don't think I think it overly matters.
Um it's nice that they're at home. Um I think that's the first time they're at home in the Premier League on the opening day since twenty sixteen. Um Which obviously ten years ago, which was Pep Guardiola's first game in charge against Sunderland, which City won two one. Um and it shows you how long ago that was that Willy Caballero was in goal for City and he could well be part of the coaching staff. He's he's often with Enzo Moresca uh assuming um if and when that That gets confirmed.
How will the early Manchester derby impact City’s start to the season?
So it was that long ago that Willy Caballero who started in goal that day, I think he's forty four now, will be probably on the City bench as a as a coach now when City next play a home game on the um on the opening day. But I think Bournemouth, Palace and Coventry probably you'd like to think City will be able to get off to a good start, which is always important. Um Then the Derby at Old Trafford, which is the first I guess the first big fixture that you will look at. Uh City obviously beaten there in January, I think it was, from Michael Carreck's first first game in charge. Um Didn't play well at all that day. Uh but Different cattle of fish, obviously new season. Um, who knows how how both sides will look in terms of lineups and stuff.
Um, but that will be That'll obviously be the first big game, no doubt be moved to to T V and then there's Liverpool in
