They're gonna have to go on winning streaks. They're gonna have to sweep a series here and there. So they gotta make up for it somehow. And so now they're fifty-three and fifty-three after this win here. Um it doesn't look like they made a ton of progress in the standings. They are two and a half games back as we are talking right now, but there's plenty of teams that are still playing the Nats. The Cardinals, the D backs, uh I think the D backs are playing the Nats, actually. Um yeah, so There's still things that can move around by the end of today. It is only July 26th, so there's still a lot of time left. It may not seem like there's a lot of time, but there is a lot of time still left in this season, and things can definitely change with the standings. Uh, but what was significant is there was a little step that was made here in this series.
By sweeping the Marlins, they have leaped over, leapt, leaped. They've leapt over the Marlins and so instead of having to get over five teams now, they have to get over four. Again, that can change Here in the next couple of months, I get it. But That is a step and it the Potters are only a game up on the Marlins. But Um look. Everybody else D backs are literally zero. But everybody else that they're trying to beat has a plus run differential, the potteries are at negative twenty one. So It speaks to the offense, speaks the inconsistency of this team. Um But my point really, like run differential, it's not the most important thing. It it's it can be a little bit Misleading. Um, but in this case I think it is pretty leading because the Padres are what they are and the offense needs to be better.
And that happened tonight. Or this afternoon, where Manny and Merrill go back to back. The potters are down three to one. Late in this game. And How do you say this guy's name? Backer? Lake Luke Backer? Uh thankfully he was on the mound because The Padres were able to get to him. Pretty darn good there, um, in that eighth inning. And you know, they the Marlins have an option like Fairbanks, but they were not using them there in that situation. And so Bacher gets the Blown save and Manny. That home run. To tie it up. It was on a three two count. I think it was out of the zone, up out of the zone. Mm, okay, it was it was borderline. It says it was in the zone, but it was up. And so he really had to get on that. And Clears it out, dead center.
And is this one of those where you look at it as a turning point?

Where you're like, oh, that that could be that moment. Uh is that gonna be the moment? This moment here where sure it's the Marlins, let's not act like it's the Dodgers. But A moment where you're down. It really would have sucked if they weren't gonna sweep this team. Like if you're gonna snap their losing streak and you're the team to allow them to win. That would have been brutal.
You're down, you come back. late like that and it's by two of your stars. It's by the face of the franchise and then when Manny's done, the guy that I mean you could point to Tatis too. Uh but I think Merrill's the guy that the Padres would like to be the captain once once Manny's done.
