Day two in the Taunos. If yesterday was all about the adrenaline of the start line, today is all about the very factor. Is the deadline that doesn't care about your schedule? and forces everyone to stop following the grand plan they made back home and just deal with what's actually on the road. We're watching ninety nine riders wrestle with that. And the story here isn't just about who's fastest, but It's about who can actually let go of the scrap.
Yesko, we are sat under a little shelter. We're about to have some lunch, some mozzarella sandwiches. We're overlooking A beautiful wheat field, golden in the sunlight. It's got some sh nice champagne gravel. It's lovely. Um today we've seen a lot of riders passing through CP1. Almost half of the field has now managed to get across the ferry. But as with any ultra race, ferries come with a certain amount of Discussion, controversy even. Um just explain why The fairy features in this year's edition of the event. I expected some controversy, so it's fine. Uh I decided to include the ferry mainly but the idea came because I just

discovered a nice little valley on the other side of the river and I started exploring that a little bit and I thought that would make for a nice checkpoint. So that came first before I considered implementing a ferry. And then there were a couple of options how to get there and um Yeah, I thought why not take the boat? Could be fun.

The cause is always developing over winter, um over like a couple of months and while in in that process there's a rider passing right now here on that gravel road. Um in that process I realized it could also make for a nice dynamic of the of the ride because um the kind of like the distance marker where the crossing is is almost impossible to reach on day one. But almost. Like it would have been possible, but as I said at the start, I think it's very unlikely. And that's how it um also ended up being. I think the fastest rider to get to Lorch was Yannick and he missed the last um crossing by about three hours. Um yeah and it just um It played out pretty similar to how I imagined it to to play out. So it forced the fastest riders to um
Yeah, rethink their strategy. Often we see just the fast guys just going all out through the first night, through the first day, and trying to get a big gap. Um as Alex is passing by. Um and I thought it's kinda cool if the leading riders are f bunching up again after day one and then um Yeah, they get back together and uh it just makes it a bit more Entertaining maybe also. Like it's it's it it's harder to establish a big lead early on. Mm-hmm. In some ways it's kind of a great leveler, isn't it? Yeah, it is. Yeah. So it's it's it's fun. It's only like uh l like a real I I don't know if I would call it obstacle but um Um It's an additional challenge. Yeah, but but really only for the people that choose to go fast.
