hi everyone and welcome back to that ufo podcast delighted to welcome back a returning guest today to discuss his new documentary the experiencers full disclosure and of course uh creator of one of my favorite ever movies the mcpherson tapes uh dean aliotto dean welcome back thank you andrew nice to be back good to have you on and for those of you on youtube or any of the video platforms you will see dean is sporting a rather fetching oasis hoodie um so a man after my own heart immediately there folks and i'm sure for many of you too so dean um great dress sense Great documentary. I watched it again for today and it's out now publicly. People can watch it and already I've had listeners get in touch today to say they've watched it, they've enjoyed it.
So it's getting some good, very early reviews because it only just came out in the last, what, 24 hours?
Yeah, yeah, came out. We had our world premiere at Contact in the desert, and then literally I had to hightail it back to do the launch at midnight, June 2nd. So it's pretty brand spanking new.
So tell us, how did this whole documentary come about then? Because you're focusing in on... a really divisive and controversial part of the whole UFO topic and conversation and we're going to get into so many things including where does it fit in the UFO conversation right now but take us back to the beginning and the kind of embryo of this documentary.
Sure. I would say that it all started with the McPherson tape. The McPherson tape was my first film. And it was, for those of you who may already know this, I'll try to truncate this. It became kind of this sensation, if you will, because it was believed to be real. It was the first found footage film 10 years before Blair Witch. The weird part was that I was told after three months of its release, or before it was about to be released, that the warehouse that had the VHS copies and everything burned to the ground and that I had lost my master and all of my artwork. And that was it. And then I got a call five years later from someone saying, hey, your movie was shot at the International UFO Congress Convention, dude, and it's believed to be real.
And a lieutenant colonel claimed it was authentic and there were no credits on it. And after I got done laughing, I said, well, you know, it's not real. And that wasn't the intention. I just read the book Communion and it freaked me out so much. I thought, how do I portray that? And then came up with a with the idea of doing it as a home video. And and so anyway, for the 25th anniversary, the same International UFO Congress convention reached out and said, hey, we'd like to do something on this for the anniversary. And at first I was nervous because I'm like, I don't know the UFO community intimately and I and I don't know how they feel about this film. And he said, dude, no, they dig it. And and they've also got a sense of humor because I'm you know, you know me, I'm I don't take myself serious.
I take my work serious, but I'm a card carrying smart ass.
What inspired Dean Aliotto to create 'The Experiencers: Full Disclosure' documentary?
So I went and gave this like 75 minute TED talk. And while I was there, I met all these great minds like Dr. Michael Masters and others in the UFO community as well. And then I went to a experiencer support group, which blew my mind. i had all these preconceived ideas even though i've been kind of not an armchair expert my whole life more of a prosumer chair expert and so i got to a place where i went there is something here that i've not seen and because i've done documentaries for tv and and um cable etc i thought it's time to do a really good documentary a premium documentary uh and because i do independent films shoot it cinematically and so it it feels like it's um
