I think it would take two forwards. I think it would take selling Cody Gatpo from him to buy three forwards. That's my hypothesis for the day. I know you will argue that Liverpool should buy more than that, but what do you think the club will say to themselves, given the constraints they'll put on budgets, we have to get at least the sum, or they say, not what you say.

And I think, you know, I think if they see Viet as doing bits here and there in the front three, I think that's possible as matches are drawn to a conclusion and you're trying to see it out, or, you know, maybe from time to time in a very big game, but that's not the same as having the reliability of options and the ability to rotate in all seriousness on a regular basis.
And I'll say again, Rio, you know, I think he's a remarkable prospect and Liverpool are lucky to have him. but he'd be better served where you're able to pick his games and pick his substitution appearances, and he would not be well served to, we need something, play that lad. That is not good for Rio Ingramauer either. I'm not saying Rio Ingramauer shouldn't be getting games.
I think he should be looking to get 10-15.
start in all competitions next season but I think that Liverpool and if there is a lesson to be learned from the side that went on and won the league last season for me the most important lesson to learn from Arsenal isn't about the time wasting or even about the set pieces it's about having a breadth of quality options when this league is so physically draining
My hypothesis, so I'll put it to you again, Kiefer, is that we will buy two. Unless Gakpo is sold as well. And I don't think there's a huge likelihood of that. I mean, I would sell Toad Gakpo. I think we need to improve on him, even as a squad player. But I think if he stays, I can't see them spreading whatever budget they have thinner than two. Two new forwards.

Chapter 3: How many wingers does Liverpool need to sign?
you know, there's so many sliding doors to get to that point. Obviously, there's a World Cup coming up. You know, his pre-season might be shorter because of his involvement there. And we saw last summer what happened when he wasn't able to have a full pre-season. And so I think, you know, you could make a case for several options, I suppose.
It depends on how Liverpool think they can replace Mohamed Salah because, you know, as Neil says, you know, not only is his kind of output in terms of goals and assists, you know,
you're not going to find someone like him in the market again but also kind of his durability and the amount of games he's able to play week in week out and you know that's just something that I don't think you can I think there's very few forwards in Europe who've probably got that kind of return rate in terms of games and being available I think Salah there is something that Salah missed like seven games you know over the nine years through actual injury
So, yeah, I just kind of showed you how remarkable and how difficult it was. So, you can make the case that it's going to take two players to replace Salah. I suppose the one thing I had maybe going into the summer was, you know, what does Liverpool want to set up like next season? Do they want to do Isak and Ekotike as a two?
That obviously would have an impact on what kind of profile of forwards they are bringing in. But obviously now with, you know, Ekotike looks like he's going to be out, you know, probably until the winter time, if not the new year.
In a sense, sorry to interrupt you, but it just occurred to me, does the Eketike injury being so potentially long-term, or so the end is so endlessly not in sight, does it in a way simplify one sort of corner, one area of the debate about how Liverpool set up an attack?
Because had he remained fit going into this summer and available for the beginning of next season, I think we would have spent the entire, excuse my language, fucking summer talking about playing one behind two forwards. Mm-hmm. It's almost as if that's not a thing at the moment.
Maybe long-term it's a thing, but at the moment, Jesus, because to talk that way again, you'd have to see Liverpool spend another £80 million on a central striker, a player who is uniquely or primarily a central striker.
So has it moved the debate in a sense? I suppose so, yeah. And I think the question was when, well, the kind of the query when Liverpool spent that amount of money on Ekotika and Isak last summer was like, well, they're both going to have to start every game.

Chapter 4: What is the significance of the Eketike injury for Liverpool's plans?

And What do I get excited about? I get excited about what is effectively a completely new front line with players there as a supporting cast, Riyang Amir being the obvious example of that.
Yeah, I mean, let's move on to names then, because the news that broke yesterday evening was that Anthony Gordon was going to Barcelona, that Newcastle and Barcelona had agreed terms with an €80 million deal, which doesn't sound too bad.
He felt in many respects like a unicorn opportunity for us this summer in a theoretical sense in that he could cover for Ekotike, his absence through the middle, he could play out wide, he was English and he was an attacker that really liked to get involved in a pressing game which has been a problem for Liverpool Football Club this season. I think part of my profile is
for me personally, would be not just tricky young wingers, tricky young wingers who know how to press properly and press in a team sense. If we don't have that, then I think we're going to find problems having just Florian Wurz behind Tisak in attack and effectively only two midfielders. We have to have people who can press. Anthony Gordon felt like he ticked so many boxes.
Do you think Liverpool have let him slide away to Barcelona or is the player just simply gone? Who doesn't want to play for Barcelona?
What do you suspect? I don't know. I think that Liverpool seemed very close to the player a couple of years ago. A lot of the noise has come out repeatedly that Liverpool aren't that tempted. So, you know, let's take that at relative face value and say that Liverpool must have a couple of really good players lined up. So let's be excited about that then. I think it is a bit of a shame.
I think that a big part of this is the homegrown aspect. For me, it's not the Liverpool aspect. Another big part of it for me is the aggression that you're talking about out of possession. That was another reason to get after him. But it is worth saying, you know, I think that Newcastle supporters in general feel as though in a better team, there will be a lot more output.

Chapter 5: Why did Liverpool miss out on Anthony Gordon?
I have not watched him play 45 minutes of football. I have looked at a bit of a compilation, and you can go... Looks like there's a real player there at the age of 19.
Again, I wouldn't do the 19-year-old to Kiefer's point about what people you feel as though have either got a bit of Premier League pedigree, because we'd all do Kruppi, I think it's worth saying, or you want someone who's maybe a bit around the block, maybe played some European football. There's Fafana, much linked with last season. He's had a bit of an injury hit season, but he's still the same footballer that he was. There's noise about Arsenal with Morgan Rodgers.
There was noise about us with Morgan Rodgers 12 months ago. Morgan Rodgers might now just still stay at Villa. There's the lad Torre at Hoffenheim we've been linked with. There's Nico Williams, where suddenly there was noise, and I think Nico Williams is interesting because he's clearly got pedigree. But he's had a bit of a middling season.
It might be that now's the time to sort of say, well, do you want to kick on? All of that. That feels quite livable. He's still only 23, 24. You know, they've been linked with Trincao. They've been linked with Conceição. Adi Aimee's got one year left at Dortmund.
Again, I'm not acting as though he could come in and be an absolute world-beater, but if you think you need a little bit of numbers... Went to that Bakayoko Eindhoven. Is he still doing bits on the road? No, he went to, I think, Leipzig in the summer last summer.
And I don't think he's sort of... There's another Leipzig winger, Nusa, I think he's coming.
He plays on the other side. Yeah, it's Kevin Schade.
at Brentford who's had a bit of a flat season maybe he needs a move to kick on looks like he knows where the goal is as Sean Rogers was saying to me the other day and I agree with him I will always carry a candle for Mohamed Kudas although he's been injured this season you can go on I've just mentioned there with Fernand Torres Liverpool have got options and moves and what I really don't want and it does matter whenever anyone does this
