So, for example... ICU nurse Alex Preddy could have been an agitator, a person who obstructed federal law enforcement, and also his shooting could have come under disputed circumstances and then been mischaracterized by both sides. All that can be true all at once, but people have a very, very tough time with cognitive dissonance. And so what you end up with is two competing narratives. On the right, you end up with a narrative that Alex Preddy was a thoroughly bad person who totally deserved what happened to him.
And on the left, you end up with a narrative that Alex Preddy was a saint of a human being and was totally innocent in his own demise.
How did Senator Marco Rubio address the Senate regarding immigration issues?
Those are the two narratives that are the competing narratives. And the problem is that Reality is ugly and reality is messy. And in reality, of course, Alex Petty was an agitator who routinely attempted to thwart law enforcement on the federal level from doing its job and ended up in an altercation with Border Patrol officers while attempting to obstruct the performance of federal law, resisted arrest, happened to be carrying a gun at the time, which obviously is going to raise the chances of a violent incident and ended up dead. Those are the facts as we see them. And because there is this lack of cognitive dissonance, because people can't stand it, that all these things are true, they end up in one of the two competing camps.
And the left camp, which is that Alex Preddy was a sainted figure in the same way that George Floyd had to be a sainted figure in the same way that Trayvon Martin had to be a sainted figure. It can't just be that reality is ugly and messy and bad things happen. And then we have to apportion blame based on who actually is responsible for the actions. Because we can't do that anymore. Instead, there's this rush to turn Alex Preddy into a person who is never a threat to law enforcement at any point. And that gets messy when, again, it runs up against reality. So just to take an example, Ana Navarro over on The View. It's not enough for her to suggest that Alex Preddy's shooting may have been unjustified on either a moral or a legal level.
