They say there must be heavy regulation of artificial intelligence development, lest AI run out of control, achieve artificial general intelligence, superintelligence, sentience, and destroy humanity. So here is the question for us: Are these developers good-hearted folks who are deeply concerned about the future of the West? And who desperately want government interventionism to stop them from themselves? Or are these AI leaders magnifying public angst about AI in order to achieve regulatory capture and to make more money? Do they want to rewrite the rules of the AI road in order to bar new competitors, collude with each other, and take control of the entire industry in monopolistic fashion?

This broke into the open, been kind of discussed pretty widely over the course of the last few years, with people like Sam Altman talking about the risks of AI, Dario Emoti over Anthropic, talking about the risks of AI, but it became a huge issue over the course of the last week or so when a person named Jacob Coxon who used to work at both anthropic and open AI as a researcher. Warned online that many people believed that AI would kill everybody. And then he called for coordination. So he had a tweet thread in which he explained all of this. He tweeted, quote, I resigned from Anthropic today.
I spent the last three years doing pre-training research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They're racing straight to self improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. Do not underestimate the power of this technology.
