Why did Victoria choose familiar wineries for their Napa‑Sonoma trip?

Victoria Pelletier 0:04
Welcome. Welcome to the best five-minute wine podcast with Forest Cali.
Robin Goldstein 0:19
So when you bought all of those uh bottles in in Napa and joined all those things, was it uh specifically the taste or that they gave you or you went uh with something in mind?
Victoria Pelletier 0:27
Uh so I actually my it was my fur for my husband, it was the first time he'd ever been to Nap or Sonoma. I last time I went was fifteen years ago. It's changed a lot. I chose wineries. I built the itinerary. I chose wineries that predominantly we already knew and loved some of their wine. So it was very easy to be convinced to buy wine we already drink and then tasted new things, even new varietals like beyond. I I'd never really had before. I even tried Chardonnays, which I don't generally like.

What new varietals did Victoria try and how did they change her palate?

Victoria Pelletier 0:55
I'm a you know Sauvignon Blanc, Salancier, and like bold cabs. All wineries I knew about for the most part. Um there were a few new ones. Stuff I love. Some new stuff that I tried that uh I I'm sure I'll be loving uh in the future as well. It's a little bit more sentimental, but Chemus has been a favorite of mine. My husband and I had it at our wedding. Um our tastes have changed, we don't love it quite as much, but we did we went there. Dairyuche Cade. I know these are all like commercial, so like you know um Stag Stag's Leap, Sterling, Silver Oak. We did go to Opus One, but didn't buy there 'cause I was very put off by the very stale kind of taste experience, even though the wine was was quite good. I I'm very much about experience.

How did a sentimental winery from their wedding influence their tasting choices?

Victoria Pelletier 1:37
Yes. Um so you know, having great experience I think about that when I go to restaurants. I I took my husband to do a mud bath in Calistoga, which he was not excited about, but I was like, babe, look, we are going to have an experience and story we can tell people.
Robin Goldstein 1:52
Is there a specific pairing, a wine uh a food and wine dish that you you would say I earn this moment and re reward yourself with?
Victoria Pelletier 2:00
My husband is, I'm gonna say a very boring eater, boring slash allergy. So he doesn't like anything really spicy. Um, he's allergic to MSG and he's not a big fan of like rice and pasta. He's a meat eater, and so you know, go anywhere and you can get steak, almost mooing for him. And so, like steak with an amazing cab. Um, I do love that as well. But I am way more excited um exciting in my like food palette.

Why did Victoria reject buying from Opus One despite liking the wine?

Victoria Pelletier 2:29
I love Asian, um, you know, so Thai, sushi, Indian, and with that pairing with a really amazing like crisp white wine. Um so depends uh I travel a lot for work, so I get to eat the this the latter meals when I'm on my own or with colleagues. Um and uh the first when I'm with my hubby.
Robin Goldstein 2:47
Danny, I feel you because I'm the same way. And I've grown up my parents instilled in me very early that I'm picking. They said you're picky, you're picky, and it's like, Well what when you go to the restaurant and you order a hamburger, you tell 'em what to put on it, and I just say plain, why am I picky and you're not? Uh I'm just discerning. Why do you have to say picky? So um That's right. So if you could only drink one wine for the rest of your life, would you pick the your safe favorite or go with a bottle that you've never tried but always wanted to? Safe favorite. Boardroom emergency versus wine emergency.

What does Victoria consider more stressful: a boardroom emergency or a wine emergency?

Robin Goldstein 3:23
Which one stresses you out more?
Victoria Pelletier 3:27
Uh I uh boardroom I guess. I tend not to get I try not to get too stressed in any facet. Um but boardroom will have me more stress than wine.
Robin Goldstein 3:36
Pick one, a three hundred dollar bottle you have to share with the whole table or a fifteen dollar dollar bottle that you get to drink completely alone?
Victoria Pelletier 3:45
Uh three hundred with friends.
Robin Goldstein 3:46
If you're I earned this reward dinner had a theme song that was playing when you sat down. Do you know what it'd be?
Victoria Pelletier 3:53
Oof. Well I was like I I I mentioned Unstoppable a few times. You know, see as unstoppable. I love it.

Would she rather share a $300 bottle with friends or enjoy a $15 bottle alone?

Victoria Pelletier 4:03
Um, but but it's not necessarily my favorite song, but it's representative of me and who I am. And you're certainly not gonna stop me from drinking that that amazing bottle.
Robin Goldstein 4:13
Okay, the uh last one of these and then we'll go to the true and false and then we'll uh wrap it up with your book and all that.
