Rent is eating entire paychecks right now. Families are terrified healthcare, immigration, jobs, and and whether the government can actually function for five consecutive minutes without embarrassing itself. Like This is Mike Johnson. I wish you guys could be here to see this mess and I tried to take you inside of it. But if this government can't stop embarrassing itself, and the Speaker of the House looks at all of that and he says, You know what we need right now?
You know what America needs right now? You know what lawmakers need, you know what Americans need right now? A damn recess. Re what do we and I haven't had recess. I think since eighth grade? A recess? We're not in the third grade. So look, you're you're you're you're members of Congress here. And I gotta be honest with what happened here. Lawmakers were sent home early because the people in charge did want to face a really difficult vote. And That is I I think that is a cowardly way to do it. Regular Americans don't get to disappear when work becomes uncomfortable. Most people don't get to do that. Uh a nurse can't abandon the hospital because the next patient is complicated. You don't get to do that. I don't get not to do a story because it is too complicated to do or, you know, like w we do without fear or favor.
We have to do it. Firefighters don't Can't they say, Oh, we can't go in a building because it's too hot or there's a fire in there. So you can't tell your boss I'm gonna go home early because accountability might happen this afternoon. Doesn't work. You would be fired if you did that. But in Washington DC, apparently avoiding the boat is now easier than winning. The boat. I mean, it was a mess to hear. People's excuses about this it was Astounding. And the divide. I the only The only bipartisanship I saw, or at least sensi sensible. sensibility or t I uh sensible thinking that I saw was a Republican who told me to my face. that she thought the Congress should be in session. More on that we'll tell you a little bit.
These people campaign by telling us America is in crisis. The moment governing gets difficult, what do they do? They flee capital like somebody else. Like somebody released a raccoon in the chamber, or maybe there's a mouse in there. And Americans are supposed to accept this. Why are you accepting this? If I I couldn't I could not live here and do this work because it would drive me crazy. Although I may have to move here for the midterms just to make sure people know. This is wrong. It is disgraceful. And given the state of this country, it's a complete dereliction of political duty, I believe. You wanted the you wanted the job so then? You begged people for the votes, you raised millions of dollars, you took people's money, you're telling us that you would save America.
And some of them, oh, we're gonna make America great again. Okay, but first what was again? When was America ever truly great, especially for people of color, struggling folks, minorities.
