I know I'm cheerful right now, but ain't nothing to cheer about with this big bullshit bill that has passed one procedural hurdle overnight marathon session, Mike Johnson twisting arms, and we have speaker, not speaker, not yet, hopefully in 2027, but leader Hakeem Jeffries on the floor right now to break it all down. i gotta bring in y'all's favorites my favorites too nikki and peter hey y'all how y'all doing now are y'all like the republicans i was i was up later than i wanted to be but we're perky we're awake we're here this morning yeah perky let's go with that enough coffee we're here in theory not necessarily in practice but here filled with dread that's keeping me awake
Oh, my gosh. Yes, Phil Woodruff. Well, listen, I'm here to have a little bit of sunshine, you know, to today's proceedings. You know, there's been a lot going on. I watched, you know, a little bit of the marathon session last night with Speaker Johnson trying to wrangle the procedural vote. So to be clear to everybody, if you're just catching up, Overnight, there was a procedural vote to basically say that we're going to bring the big bullshit bill, as Republicans call it, the big beautiful bill, to a full vote. So the big beautiful bill has not passed yet, but they had to get through that hurdle. If that vote failed, then they would not have been able to bring this bill in its form that's been approved by the Senate to a vote.
It would have went back to committee. And then that would have given an open season for Republicans to amend it. And then it starts the whole cycle again. Now, Donald Trump is obsessed with getting this bill by 4th of July. Everybody want to go barbecue or whatever the MAGA people do, um, go fishing or something like that over the weekend. And so he wants to have a big thing today. Just Nikki, I'll start with you, your instant reaction to what happened overnight.
Uh, I mean, not surprised, but also not happy. Um, I think we all kind of thought, we all kind of hoped that something was going to happen, that someone, there was going to be some kind of pushback somewhere, but obviously that's not the case.

I mean, I appreciate the efforts here of Leader Jeffries, but I just don't see it making any impact, to be honest. Sorry, I'm Debbie Downer today.
Well, listen, I'm I'm I was one of those people that I said I was on News Nation the other day. I said this is going to pass. Like, let's be real. Like the Republicans are going to pass this. This is all they have. Like they they have not put forth anything on immigration. They don't have anything on anything else. They have put their entire lot in on this bill. And so it's going to pass. That's just going to happen no matter what kind of backroom deals they have to make. But, you know, Peter, Republicans have a flair for the dramatics. You know, we can rewind back to when Kevin McCarthy was humiliated. Was it 19, 20 votes it took for him to be the speaker? And so, like, even if Republicans know, like, we got to make this motherfucker the speaker.
they still got to hold out. And so that's what we saw last night with the vote going from four no votes up to five with belligerent Tom Massey and Mike Johnson standing his ground. I'm not giving him any credit, but standing his ground with the Republicans. What do you make of the Republicans just dragging this out, trying to have their moment in the sun as being one of the holdouts for that procedural vote?
It's always like this with them. You know what it reminds me of, Recy? Did any of you in the London Nation watch Charlie Brown specials growing up? It's Lucy in the football. It is Lucy in the football every single time, whether it's a reconciliation package or Kavanaugh going to the Supreme Court.
