How did market chaos start after Trump's tariff announcement?

Don Lemon 0:16
Hello, everyone. Welcome, welcome, welcome. What a day. I just landed in Washington, D.C. I think you can probably see the monument behind me. And it was crazy chaos, flights delayed, circling. I don't know if anyone has been in the D.C. airport recently, but to get out of the door, you have to wait in line. It's a craziest thing. It only lets a few people in. Anyway, cars late the whole nine yards. But I'm in Washington, D.C. right now trying to figure out what's going on in our nation's capital. Because it is chaos. We are having cash chaos, economic anxiety, uncertainty. So welcome to the Don Lemon Show. Welcome to Lemon Live at 5. I'm so glad that you're here. Make sure you hit the like, hit the thumbs up so that people can become aware of our conversation.
Don Lemon 1:02
This conversation we're going to have is really, really important right now because we seem to have a person who does not understand how to be a steward of the economy and Supposedly a good businessman, and now folks are effing around and finding out. So the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell for a third day, a third day following President Donald Trump's tariffs rollout, with the president threatening even higher rates against China on Monday. There was this rumor going around this morning, remember, that he was, oh my gosh, he's going to put a pause for 90 days on the tariffs. That turned out to be B.S., The session was a while when his traders tried to speculate when the market would bottom out from Trump's tariff turmoil.
Don Lemon 1:46
The Dow posting its largest intraday swing ever recorded. Trading volume also reached its highest level. It did that because of that crazy rumor that the market went up, it spiked, and then it went all the way back down. Trading volume also reached its highest level in the last 18 years, with markets trading about 29 billion shares. That suppressed Friday's volume of 26.77 billion shares, surpassed, I should say, as well as the 10-day average volume of 16.94 billion shares. Okay, so that's a lot. We got that. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 349.26 points, which is about 350 points. Okay, or 0.91% to close at 37, almost 38,000. That's a lot. The 30 stock average has fallen more than 1,700 points during its Monday session low.
Don Lemon 2:51
It then swung to 2595 points from low to high in a record reversal. So the S&P 500 shed point 23 percent to end at 5000, whatever. All this stuff. You get it. All right. You get it. It's a fucked up day at the for the economy and for the stock market. And he's playing with your money. That's basically what it is. He is playing with your money and he's playing with you. Here's Donald Trump in the Oval Office talking about his mixed tariff messaging, which he doesn't believe that it is.
Sean Hannity 3:24
Two questions.
Unknown 3:31
Do you expect any of these deals to be made before April 9th? And secondly, there have been some mixed messages from your administration. You're talking about negotiations, and yet others in your administration are saying that these tariffs are actually permanent. What is the action?
Sean Hannity 3:46
They can both be true. There can be permanent tariffs and there can also be negotiations because there are things that we need beyond tariffs. We need open borders. You know, we almost had a deal with China.
Don Lemon 4:00
I'll give you both. We almost had a deal with China. Okay. Do you guys under, does anybody understand anything that he says? I know that there are, you know, Trump interpreters out there, people who claim to know they know everything that he's saying or don't take him seriously, take him literally or don't take him literally, take him seriously. I don't know. I don't know. But we need an interpreter to interpret what this man is saying, especially for the MAGA folks. We need a MAGA Trump interpreter to tell us. Well, actually, we don't because we know that he's bullshitting now. He's Trump. Donald Trump, as I told you this morning on the live stream on the hot topics at 10 a.m., that this is part of his core belief system, that he believes that tariffs are great for the economy, great for the consumer.
