What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome to the third episode of Snark and Awe here on the Don Lemon channel. Today's going to be an interesting episode because it seems all of my most longstanding preoccupations have been in the news lately. You've got Dark Woke, you've got Vice Signaling, you have the future of the Democratic Party. I have so much to talk about, and I am very, very lucky to have a phenomenal guest today, Jack Cacciarella, host of the Jack Cacciarella Show on YouTube. Jack, how you doing, my dude?
In the grand context of it all, within the very small frame of just like the current state of things, pretty good. I've been working to gut check reaction of, I'm great. Things are fantastic, considering all of it. But you know what? Being here with you, I'm doing a lot better.
Oh, thank you, my friend. And I must say, for folks who might not be familiar with Jack's work, He is probably the hottest Gen Z podcaster, hottest Gen Z show host on the scene right now. In fact, Jack, I think you chatted with Cory Booker after he finished his record-breaking speech in the Senate, correct?
I was his last interview of the night. It went Maddow, Aaron Parnas, Jolly Good Ginger, then Jake Tapper, who I have beef with because Jake was right before I spoke to Senator Booker, and he just kept playing Senator Booker clips of his own speech. And I'm like, Jake, he spoke for 25 hours. He knows what his speech sounds like. So I felt so bad talking to him. I'm like, I don't want to subject you to this anymore. But that was a that was a great time because I've been lucky to have a couple of a couple of fun folks on the show.
I don't know. I think if I spoke for 25 hours, I might be pirouetting on the cusp of delirium at that point. So I would not be remembering what I said. But but we digress. Jack, have you heard about a young, lovely woman named Shiloh Hendricks?
Which one of the horrible, racist white women is this?
Yeah, this is true. There are a number in the headlines.
Because there's a couple in the news.
Which one is this?
Why don't I give you a little taste? Go as far as to see them, but to not know their names. I have to separate it a little bit.
Let's play just a short clip so you get a sense of this nice lady.
It is my own business. You call him a n***a? Okay, why don't you have the boss say it right now again? Okay. All right, that's what you say.
So for those of you listening on Spotify, that was a youngish, maybe middle-aged white woman on a playground, I believe in Minnesota, repeatedly yelling the N-word at a black man, seemingly for no reason. Jack, before we dig into this more, let's get some thoughts from our buddy Will Sommer over at The Bulwark, just to provide us with some more context.
Yeah, so this is a woman named Shiloh Hendricks in Rochester, Minnesota. And, you know, the clip opens with this man who is Somali-American saying, hey, you know, I saw you call that five-year-old the N-word. And then eventually she says, well, yes, I did. And then she starts obviously slinging the N-word at him as well. And so this would be kind of... You know, it's sort of a typical, you know, one of these videos we've seen many times before, you know, someone kind of going crazy, perhaps using a racial slur and then, you know, getting some kind of online backlash and criticism. But what's unique here is that the right has really rallied around her in a way that I think is almost pretty disturbing when you consider that the original sort of transgression here was saying the N-word to a five year old.
And so they've helped her raise hundreds of thousands of dollars. They've said sort of like by giving her money, this is going to be a way to kind of fight back against cancel.
So Shiloh did send up set up rather a give send go account. And now she's raised nearly a million dollars for, again, screeching the N-word at a black five year old. Jack, initial thoughts.
I have so many. Most of my thoughts are, as you would expect, on the response from the conservative crowd. The one that's made me laugh the most in a very unfunny situation is the people saying, well, actually, the kid might have been closer to eight or nine.
