Good to be here.
What's going on?
I feel like this week is a purgatory. That's the only way I can describe it.
Purgatory is the word I was looking for. Thank you, Cosmo.
It is. You don't know what's happening. You don't know where you are. You don't know what day of the week it is, what time of day it is. You're just kind of existing, waiting for New Year's, and then life starts again.
This is the very thing about being Episcopalian. We've got like 186 days of Christmas, so we just call it like a six-month period Christmas and leave it at that.
Oh, my God. What?
You're going to have to break out the Google machine, Don. Explain that to me, please. Well, we have a very long Christmas season. We have different holidays in the Episcopal Church to celebrate Christianity, and a lot of that is centered on the birth and then, of course, the death and resurrection of Christ. So we kind of measure everything around Easter, but we start the process of lighting the candles and all of these other things associated with Christmas a couple of months out. And then Christmas continues on for a few months after. And it's just, we call the whole thing Christmas. We celebrate, we drink, we have a good time. Charitable giving.
Kwasim, Rashid, do you celebrate this time? What do you do?
No, Muslims don't celebrate Christmas. We just enjoy having a day off. And we call our Jewish friends and ask if we can join them for Chinese food. That's basically like the extent of our Christmas. Now, in a couple of years, Ramadan is going to be, because Ramadan arrives 10 days earlier every year. It's going to start in February this year. So in like five, six years, it'll be at this time. So we'll be observing Ramadan. But otherwise, we just chill and enjoy the extra day off.
So it's not like I know some Jews that celebrate Christmas just because it's fun, the pageantry, but don't really know.
Look, I'm not going to lie. I grew up learning all the Christmas carols and the Rudolph songs and everything. I still enjoy the festivities of all this time. I love the lights. I love the environment. I love the fact that people are demonstrably nicer to each other during this time. But there's no religious component. It's just more of a secular enjoyment of fun. That's basically it.
Yeah. As the resident atheist, let me just say, I celebrate Christmas and I think it has fuck all to do with Jesus. I mean, no offense to the Christians, but if you took any, that's the problem. You got to work out on your own. But so like, like Rudolph, I don't think he's in the Bible.
