Who is this episode speaking to about settling in life?
I want to talk to the woman who is still settling in her life. You know how that fucking feels. Whether it's your business partners and they're not pulling their weight around enough. Maybe it's your friends. And you just feel like there's more to life than the current level of friendship that you're experiencing. You feel like maybe your friends are supposed to be completely obsessed and infatuated with everything that you do. And you have this inkling that maybe you set your standards too high for business and friendship and romantic love. And you've started to convince yourself, maybe I really am asking for too much from the people in my life. But deep down inside, you know that you are settling and it's crushing you because you're afraid that you're secretly afraid you won't find better by letting go of this relationship, of this friendship, of this job.
Because there's a little voice in your head saying, who the fuck do you think you are to want more than this? This is for you. because you do deserve more. It does exist because you have the desire for it. And it definitely exists because you exist. You are a lover girl. There are other lover girls out there like you. There are other friendships out there with other women who just are so obsessed with you. They're so obsessed with you and if they're ever jealous of you, it's spoken out loud and quickly alchemized into inspiration. There is a relationship where you don't have to beg your partner to notice the details of your life. You know that you're settling And this isn't just the kind of fleeting, oh, I deserve better than this feeling that you can get in all of your relationships.
Because in my opinion, the perfect person doesn't exist. The perfect job doesn't exist. Everything has its dose of shit, okay? I'm not talking about accepting the imperfections that come with messy relationships, messy friendships and messy business because nothing will be perfect all the time. I am talking about being done with a level of mediocre and exhaustion from having to convince the people in your life to treat you the way that you deserve to be treated. That's who I'm talking to today. Let's fucking go.
Good fucking morning. Welcome to the Florence Given Show. I want to talk to the woman who is looking for a sign. Okay? You're looking for a sign outside of yourself, maybe even praying to God to just confirm the thing that you already fucking know. You already know that you need to break up with them. You already know that you're settling in friendship. You already know because you've grown sick of it. You have grown sick of feeling like you have to drag everyone upstream with you. You're sick of feeling like you need to justify every little thing you do and give it this reason and cushion it and shroud your ambition. And You're pretending that it's enough for you, and it's not. It's not. And that's so heartbreaking, isn't it?
That moment when you realize it's not enough for you. And you love this person, kinda. You love this job, kinda. You like the people there. You love this friendship, kinda. Because you got history. Or whatever. Or they remember the first time you kissed a boy. They remember the time you came out to your parents. They've been there for you through hard times.
How can you tell when you're settling in relationships, friendships, or work?
And so you feel obligated by your history to continue to maintain a friendship or relationship with this person. But you know that you're done. And you're feeling like a fucking bitch. You're feeling like a bitch for even thinking that. And you're looking for signs. Maybe you're even staying in this dynamic because you're hoping that a better opportunity arises itself and saves you from having to make the decision. You're hoping that someone sweeps you off your feet. You're hoping that a better friendship comes along, a better job comes along so that you can be swept off your feet and out of your misery so that you don't have to make the decision to state your standards. This is an episode for you.
And if that isn't you right now, this will be relevant to you at some point in your life because we all cross these thresholds in our life where the old way of doing things isn't how we're supposed to be doing them anymore.
