The sun is back and I think it's going to be here all week. It seems coming week and it's just been beautiful, man. It's just, I don't know, the holidays, everything.
They just seemed richer and deeper this year for some reason. I'm not sure why. A little less hustle bustle on my part, maybe, and just more family time. I hope you got the same as well. I invite you to join me on Instagram at Fork Reporter, at Fork Reporter on Instagram for, you know, show stuff, food stuff, things like that.
And if you're an artist or maker or creator of any kind, or you just like being around those like that, see a side of me that we don't get in too much on the air. And that's the maker and creator side of me. is Savco Industries on Instagram. That's S-A-A-V-C-O Industries. And if you show that you're an artist or something that you accept my follow, I will follow you back.
And it's been cool to see your work too. um as an inspiration to me so thanks for that savco industries on instagram all right so uh last year we talked to this gentleman as we talked about ice cream in uh orange county and um but under the circumstances i think i was broadcasting from home or something so we didn't get to meet in person and I didn't get to enjoy the amazing ice cream.
So Neil Liu has come to sit with us again and he is with Strickland Ice Cream and they're celebrating 90 years, two years at the Orange County location. So welcome back to the program. Well, thank you. It's nice to see you, my friend. So tell us a little bit, for those that may not know the history and the story of Strickland's, bring us up to date on that. Yeah, sure.

Chapter 2: How does Strickland Ice Cream maintain its unique flavors?
I mean, again, just looking at all these flavors in the taro there is... That is... That is one of the greatest ice creams I've had. There's just something unique to it. And that flavor that's delicate, you could have easily blown over too much with the flavoring.
Correct. So one of our ice creams, the specialty of our ice cream is if you come to our store, when we serve you right on site, they are soft. People tend to address them as a soft ice cream. They are. They are not hard frozen ice cream. is because the way that Strickland's machine, when they make them, as they come out, they push them out. Don't forget, they were the old frozen custard makers.
They were made from custard before, just because now they have removed, most of them removed the eggs. And the pints and the quartz that when you take them home, even though from our freezer, they are all frozen hard. Just like me, when I got here, when you take it out and let it sit for a little while, it's ripe, go back to that creamy stage and it doesn't lose anything.
It's not like it's going to, you get freezer burns or anything like that. And one thing you probably had noticed too is our ice cream is not that sweet.
No, it's surprisingly, it's creamy. It's like the natural sweetness of cream rather than sugar.
Correct. Exactly. Yeah.
So the flavoring is amazing. It's a really, for lack of a better term, very honest flavor. It doesn't feel adulterized in any way, shape or form. Well, thanks so much for coming in. It was nice to meet you in person.
Me too. I'm very happy to come in to check out this iHeart Studio that I heard so much about.
Sorry, it's just a studio with microphone, but it's day to day for us. But I guess we would freak out if we got in your ice cream shop and you go, hey, this is just what I do. MyStricklands.com, MyStricklands.com. And, you know, on Instagram, Stricklands.oc, Stricklands.oc. And Facebook, Strickland of Costa Mesa. Excellent. Neil, good to see you. Good to see you, too.

Chapter 3: How does the guest describe the experience of eating ice cream?
Yeah.
We'll sell you some in the hall. Monday? Yeah. Well, he brought some with him. So we'll put it out on felt.
You can buy it.
I'm a big believer in gold, as a matter of fact. I have both silver and gold. Oh, I didn't know that. Don't I look like the guy who sings it? Silver and gold. I look like Burlux. Silver and gold. But they're not making any more of it. When the planets all crashed into each other, that's how gold and silver was made and produced. And there's no more crashing of planets.
At least not while we're alive. Well, I don't know. It's getting pretty hairy out there. It's getting a little nutty out there. I'm telling you, you get pretty, pretty crazy. Can I give you the Rams score or do you not want to do that? Rams as a team? Yes, the Los Angeles football Rams. No, please. Rams win! Rams win! They beat Carolina by 35 points. It was a cakewalk.
Or by four or three or something. I think by three. But the Rams should have lost that game. They played horrible the entire game, and they just squeaked one out in the last minute. God, I love that backhanded compliment for your team. They were horrible today. Just horrible. But they won, and they're moving on.
They're the first team to win the NFL playoffs in this wild card matchup, and they're going to play next week, Neal. It's a big deal. Oh, 2026 is going to be their year. I feel it in my bones. It is going to be a great year for the Rams. Maybe. You know what else it's going to be? A great year for silver and gold. That's right.

Chapter 4: What is the process behind flavor development at Strickland Ice Cream?
That's right. No, do you honestly, God, you own silver and gold? Yes. Is that right? Yeah. In bars or coins? I have them in coins, but they're not special coins. I'm not buying them for that value. I'm buying them for the content of the war. I'm not going to ask you if you keep them at home because then guys will be knocking at your door. No, I'm not keeping them at home.
You haven't been somewhere in the fall. I don't even keep my family at home. Actually, it's a facade that I keep to get mail. How old's your baby now? My baby is nine. You've got to be effing kidding me. He turned nine at the end of November. No way. I'm going to see him in minutes from now. We're going to your Burbank Ikea. Oh, my God. We're going to go have some of the food.
Do you ever eat there at Ikea? I love Ikea. They've got great food there. They've got great garlic toast, the spaghetti meatballs. We're going to go look for a little desk for him. The chicken fingers are good. Oh, yeah. But, you know, when I started here, my daughter was three. Holy smokes. She's 20. Is she dating yet? She's dating, yeah. Dating a guy. I knew that.
Who wanted to see how you reacted. Who came over to the house. And twitched a little. I did. Came over to the house today. openly rooting against the Rams. In your house? In my house. You mean the Rams house?
Chapter 5: How does Strickland Ice Cream ensure freshness in its products?
My house. Rams house. He was. I couldn't believe it. That's a generational thing. So she's no longer dating. When you dated a girl in high school and you went to the father's house, the Super Bowl, whatever is on, you looked at him and whatever jersey he had on, that's your team. Absolutely. 100%. Yeah. 100%. And the meal the wife made was always the best. That's right. I know. The best.
Chapter 6: What are some popular flavors at Strickland Ice Cream?
Even if you couldn't tolerate it. Actually, I don't remember any bad meals. But if you did, it was the best. Can I ask you one question? I know we got to go. Your favorite pizza place in LA? Or do you not do that? How are you going to ask? What kind of pizza are you talking about? Give me two. One of the best. Because I'm going off pizza night. Oh, the one of the best square pizzas ever.
Pizza Hut? No, period. It's Apollonia's. Nothing like it. Absolutely spectacular pizza. Pizza Hut? No. I mean, I like pizzas fine, like all those. Apollonia's? Where is that? Apollonia's is... Gosh, is that a Miracle Mile? I'm kind of blanking. Oh, look it up. The photographs online of their pizza are masterpieces. You could hang them up in your living room. What do you want? A thin crust? Thin.
A thin crust? Domino's? Don't laugh. Domino's makes a great thin crust. No, I don't like Domino's thin crust. I like Domino's pan pizza is the only thing I think that's worth eating at Domino's. Now, thin crust, sausage, peppers, you're gold. No. I disagree. I'm not telling you. I'm disagreeing with you. All right. What's your show?
Come in during the week, though, and I'll tell you the best pizza place. Bianco's downtown. I like Joe's. You like Joe's pizza? I do. Down here? Yeah. Yeah, I do. I like a lot of different, but it's like, you know, it's not one size fits all. Are you talking about? Apollonia is like Prince's ex-girlfriend, Apollonia? Yeah. Okay. I'll remember that. Buddy, thanks for having me in.
We're going to be on five to six. Oh, this was on the air? I think so. All right, buddy. Well, have a great show. Thank you, sir. I appreciate it. And tell your family I said hi. The Quest Report. Yes. With myself and Rich Jacoby. Tiffany coming up after that in an hour. And then you've got an encore presentation of the Fires one-year letter. Thank you, sir. Tiffany is 8 to 10 tonight.
I thought she was following the 8 to 10. So after this. All right. Keep listening. This is the Fork Report at KFI and KOSTHD2 Los Angeles, Orange County. You've been listening to the Fork Report. You can always hear us live on KFI AM 640, 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
