Oh.
This is the science team. We're under attack by some kind of creature. It's slaughtering everyone. If at all possible, we need assistance ASAP. I repeat, we need assistance ASAP. Nothing. Just that bizarre static that comes across every time it gets late. Whatever the machines do, it clearly interferes with all mechanical operation.
Well, it's pretty clear no one's coming to help us. So what do we do now?
The machines have always shut down shortly after 3 AM, but the night has only just begun. I must assume their standard duration will be shorter than usual. Given the unorthodox timing, provided 3 AM is their optimal time of operation, and they possess a durational limitation... Unless the machines are no longer limited.
In which case, that thing is bound to find us. Eventually.
The only thing that makes any sense is getting to the snowcrawler and making a run for it. At least until the machines shut back down. Whatever the hell that is. After that, we should figure out a way onto the ship. I don't know how we'd manage that last part. The water's going to be hell, especially to cross in a storm. Then we dig in and hold out in the crawler for as long as we can.

Chapter 2: What creature is attacking the team and what are the implications?
Riles, I... Run!
You! You!
I will... Riles!
Hurry!
Hopefully that'll slow it down. Listen.
For what?
That's just it. I don't hear it anymore. It might just be coming at us from a different direction. Then we need to leave quickly.
What the hell's going on?
Especially yours, Dr. Golan. You traveled a very long way just to watch the people you came to save die.

Chapter 3: What plan do Vera and Burt devise to escape?
Riot! I'm coming!
Come through! Run! Run!
I'm in!
It's got us! We're not moving! Let's see how you like reverse, you fucking bastards! We're free! Step on it, Sam! Go! Go! All right. All the gear and guns you wanted is all prepped. Are you sure you don't want to wait till those machines stop doing whatever it is they're doing? If we do, it may be too late. The thing is making moves. It's already divided us.
All that's left is the conquering part. I suspect that's what that feather anomaly is swirling over the outpost signals. Gonna be tricky getting back to shore. Is a chance we're going to have to take. The scientists are the only ones who somewhat understand what we're dealing with. Once they're gone, we've got no chance of mounting any kind of defense against that thing.
And beyond that, I'm not leaving them to die out there. And besides, if I didn't do this, I'm sure you would. Whether I liked it or not. Might as well cut to the chase. So, what's the plan for getting over there? We've got three options. One, we ease at the anchor and cautiously drift closer, only if the wind allows. Two, we run a guideline from the stern to the shore.
If someone can secure it, we can use a harness and pulley. Three, we deploy a lifeboat, tethered, slow and steady. Gonna be a lot easier getting over there than getting back, though. That's where we're taking the biggest gamble. You notice the storm easing almost exactly at 3am.

Chapter 4: How do they plan to navigate through the darkness?
If we time it right, we could make it back to shore when it lights up. And take the raft back to the ship. You mean when Jacob and me went out on deck and saw the whole friggin' landscape had changed? When that giant, um... That giant... thing came out of nowhere and roared like a fucking nuclear explosion. Are you sure that's such a good idea?
We've been sitting ducks this whole time and nothing's attacked us. We've picked up all sorts of ghost traffic, but nothing solid. Dr. Gettlesby said that the phenomena, whether demonic or otherwise, seems to have the ability to create illusions and hallucinations. Maybe this thing is trying to scare us into an action. Get us where it wants us.
Chapter 5: What challenges do they face as they attempt to reach safety?
You're an excellent captain, but if you put on odds like those, you'd lose your shirt at the tables. And here I thought you liked me without my shirt. Um... Why, Bert? Are you blushing? Okay. Well, I'll put a team together and you better get back to the bridge. Not a chance. I'm coming with you. The hell you are. We need you here. Maria knows the ship as well as I do.
And if we don't bring those scientists back, we're finished. And if there's one thing I've learned out on the water, it's this. If you want something done right, you do it yourself. So let's stop wasting time. Get that team together. Oh, we're just driving blind in this shit. Any direction I turn is as good as the next.
Well, on the bright side, if we don't know where we are, then that thing probably doesn't know either.
How much fuel do we have?
Full tank, so we should be good for a while. Now that we're out here, I'm recalling what the captain told us about how the landscape appears to change shortly after 3 a.m., I wanted Hank to check the Mephitica stuff for comparable phenomena. But with all that business with the Black Aether, I never got around to it.
She said the changes only occurred for a short time. That they returned to normal not long after 3 AM. Could be similar to the ghost traffic the Valiant's been picking up all along. Nothing that's been proven visible. But we already know that a portion of a phenomenon is illusory. Like the door being torn off and then reappearing undamaged. Same with what's been happening to Miles and Sam.
Phenomena? Have you reverted back to a skeptic already?
Hardly. I just don't know what else to call it. And before anyone asks, no. I'm not thinking this shit's caused by extraterrestrials. That creature... That demon... More than made its point.
At any rate, we should probably stop. We don't want to get too far away that it'll take us forever to... Up there! Look! I... I think I see lights? It appears to be the missing snowcrawler. There's people inside! Thank God someone else survived. Pull alongside. Hey! Is everyone alright?
