Chapter 1: How did George and Josh first meet and start collaborating?
I totally am. I saw you with Pete Holmes and so many great interviews. It was excellent. Thank you so much, dude. Thank you. I'm so proud of the show. I know. I messed up. So sorry. Just amateur stuff. Okay.
Do not disturb. Get out of here. I have to start this off with how we met. And you probably don't remember as much as I do. We have to do the AC because I'm already sweating. I... You were walking on the Grove by Desert Ridge. Okay. And you were meeting up with Amanda Cerny and Logan Paul. And I at the time just met Logan, but I'm nowhere near as comfortable because we just met.
So I'm very quiet and just like observing everything. Dude, I watched you walking by the Air One. And I was like, I wonder where he's going, dude. Probably Air One. Look at him. He looks fit. He looks great. But then you started taking the elevator. And I was like, oh, my God. Please, please go to Logan's. Please go to Logan's. I got to meet you. I got to meet you. We walk up.
You walk inside the door. I'm like, oh, my God. You pitch a vine to Logan. You're like, hey, what do you want to do this? And he goes, yeah. And then you turn to me and you go, hey, do you want to be the guy in the background for this? And I was like, I'm an extra in this six-second video. Really? I am in. You were. So I grew this confidence because I'm watching you.
Now, you are the first person I've ever got to experience this with, but I'm watching somebody I grew up watching. So I'm like, dude, this dude just popped out of my TV, and I'm looking at the back of your head, the back of your neck, all where the camera angle doesn't ever get it, right? I grew my confidence. I got cocky. I turned to you, and I was like, bro, me and him are friends now. So I...
I leaned into you. After we're done, we had a great time.
I go, hug me, brother. You leaned in and you go, real original.
Solid.
I was like, okay, yeah, he probably has heard that a hundred times. I was like, I'll never do that again.

Chapter 2: What inspired Josh Peck to start making Vines and engage in social media?
The verdict's out. We'll see.
You never know. Or he's crazy in a good way and he's going to be doing something. The only time he ever got mad at me was because I wiped away something from the whiteboard. Really? And I wrote something nice for him. I was like, hey, buddy, love you. Something like fun. But I wiped his thing where he would wake up and say it every morning. And he looked at me and he goes, don't ever do that again.
And I was like, oh, okay. It was like a mantra of him. Yes. Yeah. And I didn't know how serious that was.
So what got you into Vines? Like what piqued your interest? You're like, this is good. This is going to be something like people are going to love.
I was a fan and I was incredibly lucky that it was the birth of kind of social media as we knew it. And for years, people had brought up like, try YouTube, do something like that. But I didn't know how to edit. The barrier to entry was too scary because I'm like an older millennial. So tech and everything still kind of trips me out.
And so I remember one day I sent one to my wife, who was my girlfriend at the time, and she's like, why don't you make one? Like, we love watching these at night. Like, make one. And I did, and it did okay. And I made, like, two more. And I remember I get a text from my buddy Cameron, and he goes, okay, popular page. And I was like, well, what do you mean?
He's like, you're on the popular page of Vine. Like, yours is one of the biggest of the day. And I was like... Right. And that's crazy. So casual.
We were doing this every day just to hopefully get there.
This guy casually on the couch. Well, and then, of course, I started chasing likes like it was like my next fix.

Chapter 3: How does Josh balance traditional Hollywood acting with social media fame?
Wow.
Yeah.
Wow. I remember when I wanted to go into the acting side of the field, they would hide my social media stuff. And they were like, don't ever tell the casting director. Don't let them know. Because it had a lot of bad stigma. And I think the way my agent was trying to explain it is... Social media had a lot of famous people with no work ethic or anything to back it.
So they would just walk into these rooms like, you should give me the role. But they're terrible at acting. So my manager's like, hey, don't tell them. Just go show them your talent. And then afterwards, if we want to. But back in the day, it was like trying to hide the thing in the room. But now it's like, this is what people are kind of leaning towards. How do you feel about that?
Because you've been in both worlds. Which world did you like more? The one where they're like, oh, let's just write this up and give it to this person? Yeah. or audition and see who fits this role better?
I like it all, and I also think anything you can use as an edge in a really particular... Traditional show business isn't merit-based, whereas social media, if it gets the most likes, it does the best, there's a good chance that it is the best. But in TV and movies, it's subjective, right? You could be perfect for the role, but the lead also has your same energy and kind of look.
And that might get distracting. People will be like, wait, is that the lead? Is that the best friend? So we're going to get someone with darker hair. They're not as good, but what are we going to do? And that can be maddening. And so I think if you have social media followers and it gives you that edge because they know you're going to help publicize it, great. But I'm so glad to have both.
I'm so glad to go, you know...
dip a toe in and do a part that I'm really excited about and working with people that I'm excited about and then also not have to chase things I'm not excited about and get to be here midday on a Friday or go hit up Nick Antonian and be like let's put together our dumbest ideas today and shoot and we have something finished in a day as opposed to in 18 months and then it didn't quite come together and you're watching it and you're like why did they pick that take and

Chapter 4: What was Josh’s experience auditioning for and acting in 'Oppenheimer'?
I'm like, at 20 years old, I was uniquely ready for that. I got this.
I've been practicing my whole life.
Totally. But then all the actors I look up to, they are these chameleons, man. And I'm like, how are you doing this? How can you play a guy in this movie and then do a total 180? And so I spent six years in class just getting crushed.
Crushed.
If you don't mind me asking, yeah. Yeah, go ahead.
Same question. What was the technique or the thing for you that did it that was able to make you explore a little bit deeper? Was it an exercise? Was it just time? Was it people?
It was... I had this dirty little secret I was carrying around that I was lucky enough to have a really nice amount of rare success in this business up until that point. But I felt like I'd never done the work. Like the great plays that you hear about in conservatories and just like... I didn't feel like I had that strong foundation.
I knew I could fake it, but I wasn't quite sure that if I was put to the task, if I had like all the tools that the people I looked up to seemed to have. So I went to this teacher who, her name is Sharon Chatton. What's going on? I'm so sorry. This is my spirit animal right here.
His name is Leonardo DiCatrio, by the way. Cute. Thank you. Thank you.

Chapter 5: How has fatherhood and marriage changed Josh Peck’s life perspective?
This is somebody that you're okay. You're in the industry. You're always moving into the rooms being like, okay, like I just want to be invited back. Now you changed your mind. You build on who you are. You got accepted by somebody. That's great. That you're waiting for. Yeah. Are you nervous about going to the set? Are you like, no, they liked me. I'm ready for this. I'm ready to go.
I'm nervous.
Dude, I will never forget this moment. There's a scene where Matt Damon has to be really annoyed because we as a scientist are taking too long to figure this thing out. And we're walking down the hall and just the scene was us walking down the hall and him sort of glaring at us with the stare of just like, get it together.
And I remember us walking by Matt Damon, looking at his face and thinking, wow, that's very believable. That's so funny. Totally. What's it like working with Matt Damon? Great guy. Really? Yeah. We, on the last day of shooting, I remember just randomly, we were all in some, it was me and like two other actors and Killian and Matt and we had lunch together.
Like there was nowhere to go like back to trailers or anything. We were sort of stuck in this one room and we just ate lunch and shot the shit. I asked him questions about Goodwill hunting. Bro. Okay.
I was going to ask you about Goodwill hunting, but I was like, he's not going to answer that. But then you asked that. So please, please. What was the question you asked? And what was his answer?
I think I like... The great... Bless him. The great Robin Williams had this really funny joke when he won the Academy Award for Good Will Hunting. He said to Gus Van Sant, the director, thank you for being so subtle. You're subliminal. And sort of the thing about Gus Van Sant is that people say is he's so great at casting that he just kind of says, I cast you for a reason.
Go forth and do your thing. He's not really like super hands on. He lets the actor do the role. And I think I just asked him something about that. Like, was that really true? And did he just let Robin do whatever? But the famous, you know, the famous scene in Good Will Hunting where, Robin Williams talks about his late wife and how she used to fart in bed and how he used to have to like ignore it.
But it was like one of the things that made him miss her most was this random moment. And you see you cut to Matt hysterical laughing like it's it's too good. It can't be acting. It's got to be.

Chapter 6: What role does faith and spirituality play in Josh and George’s lives?
I was just telling Belle about this because I was going to bring this up in the beginning. The Craig Robinson, he's a huge comic. Amazing. Yes. And musical and so talented.
So talented.
My friend just opened up a club, and he's performing at it. There's 12 people there. And he pops in as a surprise. And when he walks out, I'm like... Is he going to walk off? Because to me, even the other comics that weren't even anywhere near his stature or his limits of comic, they were upset about it, and they were making fun of the audience, and then they just walked out.
He came on with 12 people in that room and had Belle and I on the floor with tears coming down our face, screaming, and all I kept thinking was, One day he's not going to be doing this anymore. And there's going to be people being like, man, I really wish I got to go and see him. And he's putting on the same performance as he did with the sold out room versus 12 people in that room. Yeah.
Is there people that you see, like how we saw Craig, where you're like, man, I'm glad I'm in this room right now. I'm getting to watch this guy work. I'm getting to learn and see in a seat where maybe only 12 people get to see. Is there any of those moments that you have that you haven't told yet that you're like, man, I love getting to just be a fly on the wall and watch him at his work?
Wow. I'm trying to think. I... I mean, I've gotten to work with some really cool people and been incredibly lucky. I have a small part in this Al Pacino movie. So I got to spend like five days with him. All my scenes were with him. And he was like right at sort of that perfect point where he was in his 70s. So he was like he was still like so like as sharp as sharp can be.
And yet he was also like there would be times in the middle of the scenes where he'd be like, oh, wow.
I'm exhausted. You're doing an impression of yourself. That's good.
I was like, you're full of Pacino right now. And it was just cool. You pick up these things. There was a scene in Oppenheimer where Kenneth Branagh, who's a brilliant actor, director, and true British actors played Hamlet and so many of the great parts for a man. And And he does this scene where we're all surrounding him.

Chapter 7: How do Josh and George view the connection between faith, works, and recovery?
And you can also do it in a body of water. Like you can go into the ocean and do sort of the same version. It has the same sort of religious value. Amazing. Yeah. Oh, I love that. I want to talk about God with you. I love the clips.
Dude, now we're opened up. Let's go. If we're going to talk about God, has there ever been a time when you were a kid? Bro, this is a deep question, and if you don't feel comfortable, you don't have to answer this. But if we're going to talk about God, this would be my question.
In a very godless atmosphere where you're just basically either chewed out or spit out, and a lot of children grow up very, very broken when they're in this industry because they're a product of their environment. Has there ever been a time when you were younger where maybe family or the industry wasn't fulfilling your heart and you called out to God?
I feel lucky, right? My access point to God and spirituality is the 12-step program. So I got sober at 21 years old. And it's not a prerequisite. You don't have to have a higher power, but it's helpful. And so it's allowed me to sort of look back at what was my relationship with God before that. And I think I always believed in God. I just wasn't sure he was a fan of me.
Like, I wasn't sure he was aware of me. Like, it just, I didn't wrestle with it. I believe that there was some higher thing at play here. But, and for the most part, it felt, when I did think about it, it was punishing. Like, I had done something out of character. I had lied, cheated, stole, you know, in the way we do most, you know, high school kids, young people do.
Like, done something out of character that didn't sit well. I didn't, I talked, you know, I...
Mouthed off to my mom or whatever And I just was like I'm going to pay for that one Some karmic shit He's the ultimate Punisher Okay so do you think that That was from the form of The industry like if you piss off the guy at the top You're like you're done
No, I just think it was like, I didn't, you know, there's this great sort of modern day philosopher named Alain de Botton. And he talks about that when you have kids, you know, as early as two, three years old, we're teaching them, I mean, basically as soon as they get teeth, right? You're like, you're teaching them about oral care, right?
Like hygiene and how to brush their teeth and then how to, you know, in the bath, how to wash themselves and like comb their hair and do all these things. And we teach these things, and it's an imperative before they're five years old. We don't really teach kids about spiritual health in many respects, right?

Chapter 8: What advice do Josh and George share about serving others to improve your mindset?
And it's just like, man, like when I really take this book and, And I put it to its test and I test it. And a lot of people feel like that's wrong, but it's like not. If I test your words when we're in a relationship and I could break it, I'd be like, look, he's lying to me. Look, look what he's saying.
But you're telling me it's been 2000 years and all these atheists and all these scientists and all these people are trying to take God's words and break it, but they can't. And then so I step up to the plate and I'm like, well, let me see if this God's real. And I put his words to the test. That to me was where I was like, oh man, like he's real. This is real. Everything he's saying is real.
And so that's kind of like, I'm just, I guess just like any relationship, the more you're with that person and the more you fall in love with that person because you start behaving like that person. And like the sheep thing, it was kind of funny. If one sheep was scared, all of them were scared. They were just like... But then if one sheep was like, I think this guy's kind of cool.
All of a sudden, all of them are like, yeah, you're right. And then they were kind of like a cartoon, all their heads. And then I realized, I'm like, dude, this sheep is me. This is who I am in Hollywood. I go into a place. I don't feel like I deserve to be here. So what do I do? I behave like... like all of them, but why? Because I fear what they all fear. So I mold myself to who they are.
But what happens if I walk into the room and I don't fear what they fear? Then I'm the one sheep that's bold and stands up. And then now everybody around me starts behaving like me. And that's when I was like, oh, God, I want you to make me bold.
I want you to make me the guy that pulls out the chair for a young woman and opens up the door because now I'm looking around and nobody's doing that anymore. And it's because we're all bending to what everybody else is doing. So again, I have this saying, I try to preach every day, but if I have to, I'll use words. But I think that I know that my God is real.
And if he asked me, how do you want me to preach? He'd be like, don't use any words.
Mm-hmm.
I want them to see me through you, through your actions. Like when you picked up that man to take him to AA, I'm assuming he couldn't get a ride there.
