Who is Max Vladny and what role does he play in the story?
Well, Jeff Regan, when it first started out, began as Joe Kento, or Kento. detective, and then was changed to Jeff Regan. Now, we don't know whether they changed leads or they just changed the name of the show. But this episode, we meet Joe Canto, and the part is played by Barton Yarbrough. For those of you who are fans of Dragnet, Barton Yarbrough is pretty significant. He played Ben Romero, Joe Friday's first partner on Dragnet. At this point, Yarbrough was known for his roles, mainly... In the Carlton Morse series, One Man's Family, the longest one, a soap opera, but he also did I Love a Mystery and I Love Adventure and Adventures by Morse. All three of these series, as well as Hawk Larrabee, a wide variety of other performances.
This role of Joe Kando would become a recurring role, and we'll hear at least another one or two appearances by Mr. Yarborough here as on the Jack Webb run of the show.
What events lead to the shooting at Max Vladny?
And there we kind of get a feel for what might be ahead, just a little bit more than a year away. At this point, it's about ten and a half months before Dragnet would premiere in 1949. So this will be a pretty fun performance. I think the first time these two were together was they made an appearance in a Skype together, and they also did another show, a pilot called 3-4 Adventure. So I doubt they were total strangers, but this is an interesting mixture that would be a great success when applied to Dragnet. Well, we're going to get into today's show in just a moment. Before we do, I do want to encourage you, as you make your hosting decisions, you've got a business, you've got an organization, you need a website.

How does Jeff Regan get involved in the investigation?
But now let's go ahead and get into the lady with the golden hair here on the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio.
When Anthony J. Lyon cashes in on somebody's trouble, it means money for him. For me, it means work. I'm Jeff Regan, the lion's private eye.
Here's the kind of program you've been waiting to hear. Hard-boiled action and mystery as told by Jeff Regan, Investigator. So, stand by for trouble. Stand by for suspense. Stand by for adventure. In tonight's story, the lady with the golden hair.
What clues suggest a deeper conspiracy behind the threats?
And now, here's Jack Webb as Jeff Regan.
Well, this is the way it started. I was sitting in the lion's den waiting for him to get off the phone so I could ask him about my expense sheet on that New Orleans thing. He was playing the usual games with his lawyer, and just about the time he hung up and turned his chair my way, the office door opened. A little curly-headed man about 40 dressed in a black suit was standing there. He was holding a stack of $50 bills, a gold-headed cane, and a red card in one hand. In his other, he had a black derby with a hole through the top of it, A pair of suede gloves and a white carnation. I stood there, looked at both of us. The lion looked at the $50 bills.
What is revealed about the character Hilda Graham?
I looked at the little man.
Aha!
You are Mr. Lion, no? I, Max Vladny, have come to see you unappointed. Where you are?
My name's Regan. This is Mr. Lion.
Aha! You will do it. Won't you sit down, mister?
