The story of the night is a dynasty returns. Kansas City coming off a 6-11 year. Had a big muscle flex tonight at Arrowhead. Wins 31-10. Absolutely destroys the CEO head coach, Sean Payton. We'll dive into that. Obviously, Kenneth Walker. I do think the story of the night is just obviously Kenneth Walker has an enormous night. You know, he rushed for 173 yards. Looked like, I don't know, one of the best running backs in the NFL without question. I mean, that's the best game he's ever played. And literally the last game he played in, he was the Super Bowl MVP.
He was – I'm getting texts from people in the NFL saying, Saying, is this Kenneth Peterson? Is this Walter Walker? That looked like a Hall of Fame running back tonight against, over the last several years, one of the best defenses in the league. He was a man amongst boys. He was possessed. But I think it starts with the mentality from the franchise. Andy Reid came on the podcast this offseason. And when they paid Kenneth Walker a lot of money, I think a lot of people thinking to themselves around football that watch football go, Andy likes to pass. And I think sometimes when you struggle, they went 6-11 last year. I think part of that is running out of gas. They had been in five of the last six Super Bowls.
They had been in an AFC championship game every single year with Mahomes. But you have this god-awful season. You draft really high. Your quarterback tears his ACL. I would say the best in any business every once in a while. When you're having success, I think it is harder to be introspective. It's harder to look in the mirror and really evaluate when things are going really well. When things go poorly, I don't care what you do for a living, sometimes you got to look in the mirror and figure some things out. Sometimes you got to look deep inside you, whether you're stubborn, whether you're prideful, and go, something has to change. We need to pivot. We need to do something else. And I think this offseason they went, we got to invest more in the running game.
We need to lean on the running game. And the running back, that position has come back, I would say, definitely more in vogue. And they gave this guy a lot of money. And I think it's very evident tonight when they handed him the ball over and over and over again. And obviously, he was having success. But if you look at Andy Reid's game plans historically, he is throwing the ball. Now, he also throws the ball a lot to running backs. That's the thing. Andy Reid's not anti-running back. He just likes a running back who can catch the ball out of the backfield. Because as you saw tonight, they will run like the wheel route. They run some of the misdirection kind of swing routes, which Patrick Mahomes can throw in his sleep.
And he was a little rusty tonight, that's for sure. But they view that play, Andy views that play as a run play. And whether it's back to Brian Westbrook, Shady McCoy, Jamal Charles, and now Kenneth Walker. he of all those guys is probably more equipped the way he's built, maybe shady a little bit, but like you're going to get 20 plus carries every single game because it's going to help our offensive line. You know, before Simmons had this back injury, obviously last year was weird. They started an undrafted free agent at left tackle who had never played left tackle before in college. Again, shocker, another guy from Indiana, week one, ready to go. If I'm an NFL front office and push comes to shove on the draft board or an undrafted free agent, I'm leading with a Cignetti guy.
We have a short sample size right now of Keelan Black with the 49ers, obviously Benson tonight. Just their guys are ready to go. And I think when you looked at Kenneth Walker tonight, Only Derrick Henry and Jameer Gibbs this week had more carries. It was a concerted effort. And this wasn't, well, they had a big lead.
